Great video Juan! Glad to see you two come through after that zero day! You two put in some long mileage days! Fishing looked good too! That golden trout before Guitar was beautiful!
We just missed crossing paths...we did the HST the week before you did ! We had perfect weather, no rain at all, very clear, but we could see smoke in the distance from the fire in Yosemite from the summit of Mt Whitney. ua-cam.com/video/LDGKOilNHDQ/v-deo.html We drove 2 cars to leave at each end of the trail. You did the right thing by taking care of your 3rd person's safety even at a cost of 19 miles to you. You guys can really hike fast ! We took 8 days/7 nights and tried not to hike in the afternoon when it was really hot.
I only hike fast because I"m trying to keep up with my son!.. LOL. It was an awesome trail. Glad you were able to make it the entire trail... slow and steady is a great way to do these trails. Last year when we did the JMT we took a total of 24 days because we hiked short days and always stopped where we could fish. Most days we were done hiking at around 2 p.m. when we did the JMT. This was a little different because we wanted to catch up to our schedule and we wanted to test our metal a little bit as well.
They are working out great when we have a little more gear and are carrying around 30 lbs (total pack weight) or so. My sons is the oldest. He used it on our JMT thru hike last year and the HST this year. Just some minor wear on the hip belt… but the pack functions and carry’s great. Mine is super comfortable.
@@juanbackpacks Good to hear... I recently got the 60L but I haven't been out yet. There aren't too many reviews out there yet but I can see them popping up over the next few months.
We used the shuttle that runs from Vasallia up to the park. They have stops at most of the major hotels in town. it was very convenient. We then just took the park shuttle from the museum where we picked up the permits to the trail head. That was the cheapest and most convenient way to do it. The shuttle leaves Vasallia early enough in the morning so that you can get in some good miles on the first day regardless of all the shuttling.
Sweet adventure! Massive trout good for you. Glad your friend is ok. Good weather mostly, cool. Thanks for sharing
Liz.. thanks for the positive feedback on the video.. much appreciated!
Well done! Glad to see you captured the sunrise.
Thanks for the positive note man! It was quite a push getting up there before daylight but we made it with lots of time to spare.
Nice video, Juan. It was a pleasure meeting you and your son at Crabtree Meadow and Guitar Lake and talking books, videos, and of course, the trail.
Thanks a ton for posting up! Always great to talk to folks on the trail then connect after! take care and keep on hiking!
Great looking Tenkara action!
Thanks! It was tons of fun!
Congratulations on overcoming the initial adversity and making it to the summit. That was a hell of a fish at 17:45.

What transportation company did you use to get to the trailhead
