With all of that extra storage behind your Lenovo X3550, you have managed to take away one of the only drawbacks of this server against its cousin, the X3650, which in my opinion is drive capacity. Unfortunately, in my market, where 3.5" hard drives can be had for very little money, storage enclosures like this are sold at premium prices in my part of the U.S. for some reason, which is why I prefer the 16+ drive capacity of the X3560 M3 and above in the 2.5" storage array option. However, I would love to fill out my data storage system with cheaper 3.5" drives for massive amounts of backup potential. Thank you for another excellent video, Morten!

Amazing. I just bought two more of the DS4243. Now I have 4 of them.
If you'd like, I will send you some pictures, as soon, as my data center is finished.
You should try them with FreeNas and the NetApp PM8003.
Fun fact: IBM build the same Disk Shelfs under the name IBM EXN3000.
Edit: If you don't use all 4 Power Supplys, the fans will spinn on full speed. Just let the other 2 in. Then its only on 50%.

    • @tim1638

Sure. I might do a data center overview in the next weeks.
It isn't finished yet. But i recently bought some HP G2 Racks these will fit nice.
I will reply on the comment, when the data center is finished.

Do you know the Dell 2950? A single one is louder than 4 DS4243 and an Dl380 G6.
      These things are super quiet.
Sure, if you have 96 15K SAS drives, they go a little bit nuts because of the heat. But in general, this things are really quiet and super fast. I love this things.

      Hi Patrick Lünow
Thank You very much! I did not know about the IBM version of exactly the same...
I do believe it is meant for just two PSU's.. I pop them out so the DS4243 can't see them. if it cant see then it is not missing them and want blow full speed.

Hi Morten, I'm not sure you'd be interested in custom gaming PC's with custom water cooling, but if you are (they basically all with NVMe drives because who wants too wait for stuff to load) then I'd be happy to build one for you, free labour too, but I'm not rich so I can't give away a free PC like that haha, shipping would also be fun, as shipping a filled loop is dangerous so I have to pack the whole thing with expanding foam bags when ever I send one off long distances.
