Here’s what I’ve learned watching your podcast: I adore the notion that a conversation with a stranger begins with the street they grew up on. It seems, to me, that this notion becomes the foundation for one’s beginning, and the story of their life is told through the eyes of a child. This notion is so beautiful, kind, and genuine. What if we all used this notion every time we struck up a conversation with someone we just met? Imagine what glorious information we would derive!!! I can’t wait to give it a try!
I love this discussion! “Grow where you’re planted”, the story of my military career! I love the responsibility and awareness she had as a child to know that she couldn’t just leave the bikes…too cute🥰 . Thanks for sharing Eva and thanks for facilitating Kerry👏🏽👍🏽

I live on Dodd. My mom used to babysit Eva. My sisters and I used to play with Eva. When Eva became famous, several Mexican news came to my house to ask questions about Eva and her family. They even offered me money. I told them to leave. 🤐🤫
This was another great interview I would love to see the following women on this platform: Viola Davis, Niecy Nash, Cynthia Erivo, Yvonne Orji, Mindy Kailing and for male Ryan Murphy.
My grandma and her mom were really good friends from Falfurrias TX. Her mom is a very nice lady. I'm from Corpus and lived about a mile from those ABC streets. Not a very good neighborhood but yes it was a predominantly Mexican neighborhood. Eva make Corpus proud!
Yes! Frozen kool-aid in a cup honey! We had that on my street., called them "Cool Cups". We also had the lady who sold cookies, chips, pickles , and candy. That really takes me back!
PTL Ladies…I love you both; I definitely have watched various parts of your body of work. You are both excellent, I can believe you are both because you are talented and gifted. Yes, giving and receiving are a process, my mother told me to earn my own money 😍, thank you for sharing!

Wow! It took this interview to bring so many CC residents together on YT!!! Fellow Buc, here. (I also play with a Mariachi at the most popular Taqueria on HORNE ROAD, can't say the name but if you are from Corpus, you KNOW what Taqueria I'm talking about, LOL, every Friday night from 8:30 to 10:30, come see us! Sorry about the plug! Couldn't resist. LOL.) Anyway, I know the guy that took her to the prom. The prom pic is his most prized possession. I never met her but she seems down to earth, like her roots are still embedded in Corpus, her feet are still on the ground and she still acts like she is not famous, at all. That's really cool. I grew up near her neighborhood, on the other side of Gollihar, on Dinn St. Hello, to all of you who also live here!!!!!
I know that taqueria all too well. Lol. Also, was her prom dates name Albert? If so, he was one of my best friends. I know that he and Eva dated for awhile.
Wow! So many similarities to my story. I took a bus to the "white school" as a kid and was ostracized by the neighborhood kids 'cause I wasn't around. My dear, precious little brother was Special Needs. My childhood made me work hard and I'm proud of my success.
*She said that she had dark skin* , and did not look like her family. Her skin does not look darker than Mexican Americans by no means. My opinion. Not sure why her family was treating her like that. Glad things are going better for her now.
I was born and raised in Corpus and the street she is talking about was considered the higher class part of town which was southside, so she is full of crap. Westside was lower class. Flour bluff was lower class whites and ocean drive was doctors and rich people mixed race and robstown was more hispanic lowclass
The ABC streets have never been known as the richer part of town. Back then the people with money (of course, not including the ones living on Ocean Drive, that's a different animal) were out in the Carroll HS section and further out, not the Ayers/Gollihar/Sunnybrook/Mansheim streets. That area was not the poorest area but by far not the richer sections. Ask anyone who lived in the ABC section. NOT ONE will tell you that they lived in the richer part of town and believe me, when you grew up in the not-so-rich part of town, you know it! Don't believe me? Pull up Dodd St. on street view. Tell me again how that is the rich part of town.
@@cannondaleman1 I grew up in the 60's and 70's and i know where Dod street is and maybe you weren't there in that time but it was not a low class area

With all due respect, Lawson, I think your opinion is indicative of your age. It can be argued that Agnes St. was once the rich side of town; if you want to look as far back as the 1920's. I'm much older than Eva, and definitely our neighborhood was our world and it was lived outside. I often hear Eva say, as she did today and in other interviews that she is "Mexican". I've always been curious if she was born in Mexico; if not why she doesn't say American? I have 2 children and I always taught them to stand firm and claim their right as an American. I taught them never to answer "Im Mexican" or allow others to call them that. I wanted no part in any other ethnic group making me or mine an "other" in our own country. We are proud of our ancestors Spanish/Mexican heritage/culture and are educated in all ways that they contributed and for periods of time colonized parts of this country (the Spanish) and the fact that many parts of America were once upon a time part of Mexico (including all of Texas). I was a kid in the 60's, 70's my teen years. In those days Whites in our city and probably in most of America tried to "other" us by calling us "Meskins". I myself always answered "I'm American", my ancestors came from Mexico, where did your ancestors come from?" I immediately put them on notice, your ancestors came from somewhere else so don't try to "other" me. I know she is very proud of her Hispanic heritage and fights for the rights of marginalized groups, but curious as to why she doesn't claim her right to be just an American.
