Just seen her in Maastricht ( The Netherlands) and it was amazing. It was the 4th time we went to see her, and besides being a great singer she’s so sweet and funny.

I found her on a commercial. Then I googled the little blurt I heard in commercial and found whole song oh my mamma and listened for 10x lol. To put in perspective I'm a head banger who grew up in the 80s loving heavy metal/hair bands and hard rock and rock and roll. But I've hated music for the most part since mid 1990s. I'm either desperate to find new music or I'm mellowing out as I age. I'll still turn up volume to high in car if AC/DC comes on but oh my mamma song I fucking love it
One of my absolute favorite artists of all time. I remember being at Bumbershoot that year and hearing the songs from About Farewell for the first time and they still give me chills a decade later.
I think I discoverd her music on a compilation CD about 2010 and saw her live in 2012. Every autumn/winter on the first cold morning I play White as Diamonds
Saw you at Bottom of the Hill in SF in 2006 , bought the paper case Pirate's Gospel. Was looking through some old boxes last week and there you were. It's still my favorite of your's!
I heard her "The way we fall" from a compilation CD and got hooked immediately. She's really making wonderfully intaking songs, I don't know what else to write:-) Listen also to Diana Jones!
Such a beautiful lyricist. I've been a fan of hers for like 5 years now and have never had any chance to see her perform, unfortunately. Seems like she's always in Belgium or France or the West Coast. Central Illinois seems like a longshot.
i'm laughing (in a nice way) because I just got back from a gig of hers here in Amsterdam - the second of the year. I checked what other gigs she has coming up this year (desperate to take a friend to see her...) and there are a bunch on the US west coast, sure, a couple on the other coast - and quite a few in France. I guess it must still be true that that's where her fanbase is.. or just where she likes to hang out. Needless to say, she was amazing tonight - and I hope you got to see her in the four years since you made your comment :)
Alela's of the best singer-songwriters working today- in an era that should care a lot more about singer-songwriters. Beautiful music and harrowing stories that reads as poetry.
I've been playing and listening music my whole life and I always try to get people to listen to the music I like, but not everyone can listen to music the way I do, discovering chords and transitions and I can't listen to music in an advanced way like professional musucians. So does it really matter how one discovers music? People share their opinions constantly and music is part of that. TV shows/games/movies do exactly the same thing, they share their story and music is a big part of that.
i wish the best for her and her band, but i think i know how you feel. it's like she'll be known for the 'wrong reasons', espeacially by people who don't 'deserve' her music, for that's a prize for people who invested a lifetime not only enjoying but learning about good music, about original concepts, about the flow of influences trough music history that made miracles like this possible. No, the masses don't deserve this.
Yeah - I usually get pissed off when people become more successful... Why does an increase in popularity make you angry? She doesn't become any less talented. Maybe she gained popularity because the people who like her have a good taste in music and recognize her as a talented musician. Believe it or not, musicians still have bills to pay and if she gains popularity then who are you to judge her for that?
Nathan Hadley it's because the music industry chews you up by milking you till your all out or milk. It doesn't have anything to do with her relationship with the amount of fans. It's her relationship with business men and labels. Look up a video on what the album wish you were here is about. It's an extreme example but very similar.

Take us back.
Doesn't matter how you find an artist, just matters that you find them and like what they do.

I listened her a lot when was reading "Song of Ice and Fire" books. Now her songs are forever associated with these books.
LiveseyMD Me too.
same with Misplaced Childhood by Marillion while reading LOTR =) Stucks with you forever!
14:27 love this song
heard her first on the Headless Heroes album. Faultless Performance. Amazing voice, great talent. Absolute perfection.
I'm so in love with everything about Dry Grass and Shadows. I've been a fan of Alela for years but that song had to grow on me.
i love so much your music Alela ! you are always reassuring me even if your songs are melancolic sometimes, it is beauty
RIP Lee will never be forgotten

Indeed, I also thougt that
Making Grass Valley proud, do your thing girl!
How can I add 1000 thumbs up? This is really important to me
How does she play like that and sing at the same time like it's nothing

Music is a flavor, some like it…..
Your voice is unbeleivable and i would like to try to do a video for your songs because you have inspired me
this is what plays in my morning alarm clock, easing me into the day.

Honey....I honestly love you. I would miss you, your voice. You are a unique human with an amazing voice
U.S. people : You should be proud of this woman. She is goddess.
Good taste brought me here
I'm sorry....I love u, voice, effect.

This is better than all the episodes of the walking dead combined.
Troy...
Alela si algun dia andas x guernica (provincia de buenos aires) te invito a tomar unos mates en casa
Must feel good, looking down on people.
Show us the middle
Ya
Do you think you're writing to her?
How?
she has a song at the end of the game
What's the issue?
Yes, and for the next decade the top comment on everyone of her videos will feature the same awful comment.
We know you..
I really hate the word, as it's so damn overused, but reading through some of these comments, I feel like half of you are "hipsters".
Marry me.
Well no, Regenschirm is German for Umbrella
The walking dead game is far from bad taste ;)
Kanye west
"What we artists do when..." If she is an artist then I'm Persian carpet, which can fly. She is just an typical American singer.
+Depressionsbehandling Your logic is flawed. You say she is not an artist, but then you call her a singer.
+Depressionsbehandling "typical american singer" lol yeah, very typical.
+Tyler Fronczak A singer is a worker.
+Andres Ripoll More typical she can't be, next step is a daub.
Depressionsbehandling I think she can transmit what she's feeling pretty well and that should be it.
