    I really like the format of detailing which horses were put down and exactly why. It's helpful to educate people who want to keep every horse alive at any cost--sometimes that's just additional cruelty.

      @Vegan Higler horses require 4 legs and they are not like dogs and cats that can happily live on 3 or less legs. Is it fair to allow a horse to live with a leg that cannt be used properly and probably would require high doses of pain relief? No ita not fair and that is why the last act of kindness is given

    • @lupinefern8636
      @lupinefern8636 2 роки тому +38

      @Vegan Higler I truly wish horse could live a happy & painless life on three legs but if you know a little about horses' body you'll know that's not possible.

      @Vegan Higler the joint is busted. Everything is involved. Tendons, bone, ligaments and any other soft tissue damage. Its extremely painful. In humans, you can treat knee and elbow problems. In horses, you can't do the same thing. With a busted knee like that you can't fix it. It is cruel to let them suffer and pump meds into it, overloading their kidney and liver with the amount of pain relief needed.

    I LOVE seeing you guys explain the euthanasia cases more in depth. Being open about it helps to understand the reasoning better and hopefully helps with false accusations regarding euthanasia performed at Horse Plus. As a vet tech I've always agreed with your decisions.

      Euthanasia is indeed sometimes the last act of kindness. I love that they explain their reasoning in depth, showing they don't make these decisions lightly. Whenever we put down our family pets in the past we would also have a long conversation within our family and with our vet. I think we owe our animals a worthy life, and peaceful death when life becomes too painful. Peacefully passing away, with someone to keep you company, feeling loved and cared for is a death I would wish for myself too when the time comes.

    I had to laugh when she said she didn't expect "this small little thing to fight this much"! Cows, no matter the size are enormously powerful. When I bottle fed a 3 day old calf, it nearly broke my knee caps butting me for milk. I never questioned bovine strength from that day til this!!

    I LOVED the "ICE CREAM LADY"! Giving these auction animals treats is a REAL ACT OF KINDNESS! This is likely the first time many of these auction animals got a real "TREAT". There's no better way to calm a frightened animal and start to win trust than if you can get him to accept a treat from you. An animal KNOWS if you give him a treat you are NOT going to hurt him.

    Absolutely love Rose. I have ridden many Thoroughbreds from the racetrack (in a saving program in Germany). And I know what happens to them on the tracks and often in training. It takes time, patience and gentle consequence to retrain them. But once you have - they make such amazing riding horses! I absolutely loved working with them and riding them. In Rose I see the behavior of so many. So glad she was saved and I know from a more recent video that she has been adopted 🙏 Oh Cornelius came back! It’s amazing that adaptors have this option - and contract of course.

    I also appreciated the explanations regarding the last act of kindness. I trust your judgement and know how much you all care for these animals…I fully understand that there is sometimes a great need to put an animal out of its pain and suffering. Handling the situation this way with a logical explanation should help all of us to learn and appreciate why this must be a part of the horse rescue. It is the fault of the previous owners! BTW…it was good to see Doc back on the job! And so nice to see Jason and Tawnee….wish we could see them a bit more! Thank you all for all you do!

    • @debaniol9321

      @Vegan Higler what are you talking about??

    • @debaniol9321
      @debaniol9321 2 роки тому +5

      @Vegan Higler I knew a family who lived on a farm…their dog got hit by a car and for a long time it just dragged itself around the barnyard because it was paralyzed. They couldn’t bear to put the dog to sleep so it dragged itself around with poop smeared on its backside until it couldn’t get out of the way and got killed by another vehicle. Have you ever seen a person with severe neuropathy? Constant pain all the time. Cannot sleep without major painkillers and even then the pain is still there. Cannot do any activities of a life. Pain envelopes them and the mind just focuses on the pain. We who have animals to care for have a duty to relieve them of their pain and if there is no fix to the problem we must be strong enough to do that last act of kindness. A horse walks with all its weight putting pressure on each leg. If a horse is taken care of and is healthy they can live into their thirties. Do you really want to keep a horse alive to just stand in pain with head hanging down….just existing? HPH rescue animals that the kill buyers are bidding on, no matter what shape. These horses are doomed to a semi truck ride down to Mexico to be slaughtered. Have you researched what happens to the horses on those trucks? Jason and Tawnee and their crew do what they can to get the animals adoptable…sometimes just as pasture pets. But sometimes it is necessary to relieve them of their pain in a final way. And horses do not have ‘arms’. They are 4 legged creatures that must be able to use all 4 legs all the time. Horses don’t lay down much and if they did that could kill them. Their lives, when HPH rescues them from the slaughter line, are infinitely better! 36 horses rescued…33 saved and 3 given the last act of kindness. A mutual decision to end the horses suffering…because there really is nothing they can do to fix years of neglect by their former owners. And please….if you do not agree with this rescue organization please don’t watch. Go follow any of the other humane groups that regularly euthanize perfectly healthy, adoptable animals as a matter of routine…for space or whatever reason they have. Oh wait, you can’t. Because they don’t make any of that public. This group is trying to save as many as they can and relieve the suffering of the few that they cannot help. And we all thank them for that!

    TAWNEE'S MONOLOGUE at 39:30 is the best thing I've ever seen her do. Tawnee, you have become a really good presenter with a great balance between professionalism, emotion, and facts.

    Please consider using mounting blocks. It is a big strain on the horse's back every time you pull the saddle to one side with your weight. That could also be the reason for the bucking with the chestnut mare.

      agreed! There's some pain going on there... Cory even noticed it, her trot was uneven. There's something wrong with the chestnut. Get Vet out next week.

      I think he is far too heavy for the chestnut mare, I’ve mentioned using a mounting block, strange the differences between ‘normal’ in the USA and the UK

      I kind of disagree. I've never used a mounting block in my life aside from when I was showing in English on my Thoroughbred as he was quite tall and English saddles don't tighten quite as much as western and have smooth cinches. I've never had a horse develop any sort of problem through the 20 years I have had horses due to not using a mounting block. That little mare was hoping and bucking because she is green. She is an OTTB and race horses aren't really trained to be ridden, just to run with a tiny jockey on their back.

    That last adopter was very informational. I enjoyed that a lot. I know nothing about horses but have always loved them and always wanted one.

    Ya'll are absolutely amazing, you have so much patience and empathy for these animals, I love how you don't sugar coat anything and are so open with what you do. I wish the owners would have taken care of these animals themselves but at least they have Horse Plus Humane Society to help them. I knew horses have a lot of hoof and leg problems, but am surprised how many eye injuries they have (you can tell I know nothing about horses). Thanks for everything you do for these animals.

    Hi to the girl who takes in the blind horses! I'm visually impaired as well and if I had the money to keep a horse I would 100% go for a visually impaired horse because I know how this kind of limitation feels and I think we could help each other just fine. Props to her for helping the blindies out, they deserve a good life too!

    Another awesome video! Great work guys and thank you.
    I very much appreciate it when you mention which horses needed the last act of kindness. It helps me to have closure to know what happened to them because I see them most often at the auction and know they were purchased. I certainly trust your team's decisions with regard to whether a horse can be rehabilitated or not.

    It would be great to have the blind horse information as a separate video. A great way to get the word out about them....short and informative videos that we can share on social media for you.

    You can try a halter with a lead rope tied to it as reins.
    They even sell snap reins that go on halter’s. I volunteered at a therapeutic riding center and we used that very often.

    If the hackamore didn't work you could try a bosal or partial bosal as well! It still exerts pressure on the nose but not on the chin and usually sits where the nose bone is. In any case it's good that Kelsie has soft hands with her!

    💝💕🐎🐎 I love you all, what an amazing group of people. I tried to give a donation through charge but it kept saying my expiration date was wrong. So I will try again and possibly use PayPal if the card won't work. 🙄
