She dropped out of school in the 9th grade, worked in bars & restaurants, played in some cover bands, & eventually moved to Nashville to follow her dreams!

This woman is so versatile w her music. She can sing everything from country to rock & everything in between. She did an entire album if cover songs called “under the covers”. It includes songs from Bob Seger, Eric Clapton, Van Morrison and more. She can rock as hard as all the other rockers and sing these country songs as twangy as country can get. She also does a cover of Hearts songs “Baracuda” & “Crazy on You” & she sounds just like Ann Wilson ( no relation) of Heart. I love all of her music whether it’s an original or a cover.
As a southern Bama woman lemme just say...this song is still an anthem for me. lol I've never been ashamed of my upbringing and this song just makes me feel so proud to be a country girl at heart. Dancing in a bar to this song can be so much fun depending on the crowd. Hell yeah!
I took my nieces to her & Kenny Chesny concert. My girls weren’t remotely into country, but the were visiting me in ATL, and were game. By the time this came on they were on their feet with me, singing the chorus at the top of their lungs. It’s one of my favorite memories.

All jacked up, I'm here for the party, there are so many. Gretchen is possibly the most traditional country artist. The others make beautiful music, but she loves old school country
This song has more country in the first notes than most of the so-called country pop nonsense we are subjected to now. She has more country in one eyelash than Taylor Swift ever had or will have.
she does the most amazing covers of Heart songs you will ever hear. I have worked/attended many a Heart concert and a few Gretchen concerts and a few Alice in Chains concerts with her doing those covers, and I don't think Heart is as good these days at playing Crazy on you & Barracuda as she does. It is worth your time (reaction or not) to check them out. Gretchen is a reminder that Country is a bit gritty and not so lawfully, unlike most of the stuff being mass produced out of Nashville these days, which wants the orderly & clean to stand under the lights. Cash, Waylon and most other country artist of the roots of Country Music wouldn't make it today, and not from a lack of talent, but from being canceled for one aspect or another that didn't fit the cookie cutter mold of proper image in big business eyes.
Her song When I Think About Cheating will bring the country flavor you may have missed in Redneck Woman. The video has John Rich from the Big And Rich duo.
It might be a little late, but I got my wife to listen to you also, and we love your voice. It is so calm and soothing, and can reveal James Earl Jones. To say, your presentation is emaculate.
She was part of the Muzik Mafia that included Big & Rich and Cowboy Troy (who tried to make Hick Hop a thing.) They were all huge and different types of country, but undeniably all country. Gretchen has some fun, upbeat stuff, as well as some slower serious songs. Try, "Here For The Party," and "All Jacked Up." Not sure where this version came from, but she shines in front of a crowd and this song, in a bar full of country women, is a huge fun! Saw her live back in 2009 on the riverfront in STL where it was so crowded we could barely move ... (she's from around that area, but on the IL side of the Mississippi) and her pipes are ridiculous! She sang Barracuda and you could hear it up and down the riverfront. Crazy how good she is live. :)
I enjoyed your reaction. She is country. Its more country rock then the soft slow story telling country. Grecthen is country the real deal.no apologies.
