Dude, I really hope your getting some cash from Fractal! I recently got a FM-3 and your tutorials are just frigging awesome. You explain things way better than their manual. When clicking on support on their website the first thing that should pop up is Leon Todd! Subscribed!
Seriously, you are the MAN!!!! I finally pulled the trigger on a used AX8 after watching your videos. The day I got the AX8 and configured it per your instructions, I loved it so much I bought a new FM3 that day so that I could build a pedalboard with a few other pedals (H9, Jackson Audio Bloom, TCE NovaDrive and a Morningstar MC8). I didn't even think to do a search to see if a video on integrating the H9 was out there but YT read my mind and popped this video up on my screen, kind of creepy but I'm thankful, ha. Perfect timing as I'm planning on putting this board together this weekend. Thank you for the videos.
I got the Poly last week and it is definitely my favorite pedal. Thank you for this video you convinced me to get the FM3 since I can use the poly with it. Awesome stuff Leon!
@@LeonTodd please do! I've definitely watched all of your other poly videos, that looper is crazy and I'd recommend the poly to anyone just based on that.
Great video, but a few questions I can't seem to answer anywhere online: can the FM3 Turbo do MIDI out to MULTIPLE devices? How would I chain together a Korg Kaoss Pad and a Red Panda V2, for example? Also, how can I control different parameters with different devices, for example, the MIDI X/Y pad on my Manson, and also my expression pedal, at the same time? Since there are no multiple outs and ins on the Fractal, would I need a separate MIDI controller, like the Morningstar MC8, or could I do it with some type of splitter or something? The Fractal works will with a SINGLE external MIDI pedal / effects unit, but not so much for multiple chains of pedals. Thoughts?
Hi Leon , would really appreciate if you could help me out. I've connected a Big Sky in my Fm3 through Output/Input 2 , should i leave the output 2 at Unity Gain or set at line level then ? 2. If i put a Stereo Chorus/Delay block before the Big Sky ,should I send in stereo to the Big Sky or Send in Mono and Return in Stereo ? 3.😅 How should i proceed to have the big Sky in parallel ? Really hope you can help a new FM3 user.Thanking you in advance bro
Hey Leon amazing stuff! I have an FM3 , Ground control pro and an FCB1010 with the Eureka chip aswell an an H9 and a Gmajor 2!. Would love a tutorial on how to setup the FCB1010 or the Ground control with the FM3 with the H9 or the Gmajor2 to use the scenes, presets and fx . Your tutorials are very clear and easy to follow for us non midi minded people who’ve got the gear and a tiny bit of knowledge but stuck and want to give up! Thanks for everything you do!!
Just a little confused why you would use a Poly with an Axe-FX when it seems like the Axe can already do those features. Is it because the reverbs and other features are slightly different? I am an Axe-FX III owner btw. I would really like to see you integrate some of the Elecroharmonix pedals and do a demo. 👍
there's some overlap in features but the convolution reverbs in Digit allow you to capture real spaces yourself and load them into the pedal. There's also a bunch of weirder stuff in Digit that's more similar to a eurorack modular system in it's capabilities. I think they are a good combo because the amp modelling in Digit is limited and I don't try to model any existing analog gain pedals. Digit and Beebo are mostly focused on "new" stuff because there are already pedals / units that do the vintage stuff really well.
Can I use a wah pedal with the FM3 by connecting it in between my guitar and input 1 (as you did with your fuzz)? I like the sound of my wah as it is and would obviate the need for a wah block in the FM3 signal chain. Thanks 😊
@@LeonTodd Hi Leon. I actually tried this before you replied. Unfortunately, I'm getting serious hum / noise when I connect the wah pedal (noise which gets worse when I increase output 1 level). The wah is a Morley Bad Horsie 2 (which makes no noise when I connect it to my regular amp with the same patch cable). I've tried the pedal with its 9V battery and with a power supply into the same strip as the FM3 but the noise is the same. I've emailed back and forth with FAS support -- they've said this connection should work fine, but despite cable and power supply troubleshooting, no luck. If you have any thoughts, please advise ... Thanks, Steve
Hello Leon. Great Tutorial. Do you not how to use an over ride or placeholder function in the Per-Presets? I haven't found any tutorials about how and what to use it for. Looking to mix in FX-6 midi, controllers and plugged in expression and switch pedals.
Hi Leon. I got the BeatBuddy drum pedal but i cant figure out how to route it through the FM3 so the sound comes from output1 or even 2 would be better. Cheers
Wow, some killer tones! I was curious if you've tried that tonewood amp for acoustic guitar it's been coming up in my feed a bit and wondered if you had an opinion on it or tried it out yet?
Greatly tutorial. Assuming you keep the H9 preset there same for each scene, and assuming ignore redundant pc is on, will SPILLOVER work properly when you change scenes? Will it's work if you change presets on the H9 for different scenes? Thanks
I've asked this before and IDK if you ever answered but does the FM3 have the wah block how the Ax FX III does? Where you can control the auto sweep with the faders?
Quick question, I'm a little confused about the Input and Output capabilities and applications of the FM3 in this particular scenario. What if Im running the FM3 with my own real cab with a Power Stage Amp (SM170) . But I also want to be able to use external pedals such as a POG 2 and a drive. Is that possible to do? especially in a live setting type of scenario and also at home? Im still sort of hesitating between the Axe FX3 and the FM3 ? Anyone? Thanks hips, take care everybody.
Thank you Leon. One question. What if I want to use 2 external gear at the same time, like for example, the H9 and the Poly together. Since there is only one effects loop, should I plug them in series? If so, can FM3 control both through midi?
yeah that's the simplest way. You can set each device to a different midi channel and send them independent midi PC/CC messages per scene which is fun.
Nice video! With the H9 receiving OUT 2 L is there a way to use the OUT 2 R to be fed a pre-Amp/Cab signal to be sent individually to the normal input of a tube amp? Like with a mixer block?
Hi again Leon I really wanna buy an H9 to go with my new FM3 should I get the MAX or is the better to get a lower model? I am thinking the max but never owned one so I'm not 100% sure
Get the Max as it has all of the Eventide offerings, it is a bit more but if your going to buy this unit just get everything this way your not limited on effects! The other thing is you free up quite a bit of CPU so you can build some pretty complex presets.
I like the simplicity of the block grid where you can simply convert the amp/cab blocks from pre to post looped FX with a simple drag n drop. Great UI. But, holy roller coasters Batman, adding that Reverb block added almost 30% CPU load! Could you do a video of loading up the FM3 CPU in multiple ways? 👍
There's only one amp/cab block available so you could do guitar and a DI bass through something like a comp/drive pedal but if you need twin amps the Axe-Fx III is the way to go.
so on the scene where you switched the H9 off with 127....... does it turn back on when you change scenes to a new H9 preset? If not, wouldn't you need to set a midi CC to turn it back on as well as the PC message?
@@Janoline6 you need a midi block in your preset. You can set the 2 h9's on different midi channels and then send seperate messages to each per scene or preset.
@@LeonTodd I tryed a lot of configurations on the h9 control and fm3 edit and nothing seems to work. Thanks for your answer. I Think i should use just the FM and move on. Thanks anyway!!!

Yeah the verb is the thirstiest block by far, but it is so lush! I've been meaning to do a video like that exploring some technical specs.
Reverb and some pitch algs are most always the CPU killer...that's the reason Lexicon had a dedicated CPU for reverb in their PCM line.
