Since you asked...Running thru a RJM Mini Gizmo into Output/Input3 loop (stereo) is a Keeley Halo, Strymon Cloudburst, Meris Mercury 7, Walrus Sloer, Boss MD-200, Boss SDE3000EVH. This way I can turn them on individually or in combo's. In front, in between guitar and input one is a Keeley D&M Drive, Keeley Super AT Mod, Origin Revival Drive, Nobel ODR-1, Brown Amp Atom and Keeley Noble Screamer. I have a question...If I got another RJM Mini, plugged all my drives into it and then ran a mono loop using Output/Input 4 would it sound any better? I'm sure I'd have to run the loop before the amp block in series...right? Since the RJM mini lets you pick the order of effects do you see any obvious "orders" I should use for either loop?
@@x3a3x3 Lots else needed. Fractal doesn't do granular delay or reverb. Can't do a decent fuzz pedal. Huge missing controls for many variables of effects. And, at the end of the day, doesn't actually sound like a real amp. It's a great unit, but it's massively overhyped. A Quad Cortex or even a cheap Tonex does exactly the same stuff the Fractal does, and just as good.
Thanks for this, I was going crazy when I was setting up my SDE-3000EVH with my fractal, after the cab it was a no brainer, between the amp and cab was an exercise in frustration but I finally figured it out, your videos have been very helpful since I started using Fractal gear, thanks for all your help.
Perfect ESP Leon...I was playing with putting the mojomojo overdrive into my pod go, and seeing how it pushes all the classic amps. Doing so freed up an effect block, very handy.
E como você liga na pedaleira os pedais ? Eu tentei ligar um pedal da UAD Dreans percebi que ele perde um pouco a qualidade, você acha que fiz a ligação errada ?
Super-useful as ever! Question... in Mono setup #2, you recommend using a Vol/Pan after Input 3 as a way to avoid having to set the input 3 to L-only, as that would be a problem if you later wanted to use a stereo pedal. But then you set the Vol/Pan to L-only anyway, so surely a true stereo pedal would still not work OK...? I reckon I'm missing something here, can you fill in the gap please?
So to add my external pedals (delays, reverbs,) to my existing patches, I'd be best off with the Stereo Setup 3 method? Then I can just keep it on at all times, and engage/disengage those pedals as needed? Just add the Out 3 and In 3 in paraell to my Out 1?
@@LeonTodd I'm trying to figure out how to add my external pedals the same way I would in real life. I have the fm9 set up to emulate my real life rig. One drive pedal, one gate pedal, into Two amps, two cabs, set up in stereo, with all my delays and reverb pedals in the fx loop of amp 1 (wet/dry setup). In this case because of the way fractal works im ok with them running into both amps. So I would just add in 3 on a line above everything else, and out 3, and then patch them into the main row between out 1 and the rest of my signal chain?
What about using each side of out/in 3 as a mono loop for 2 different pedals. Say I have a couple drive pedals that arent in the Afx (Nobels ODR-1 and JHS Morning Glory). Can I run one on the out+in 3 Left and one on out+in 3 Right as mono before my amp?
Hi Leon. Could you tell me how to get in touch with you regarding some set ups on the Fractal FX8? I’ve seen in some of your videos you offer lessons etc… Great video btw👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you Leon for this :) I’d love to run a Ram’s Head fuzz before the amp and will follow your suggestions. Would it be possible in a studio setup to use both IN/OUT2 and 3 to basically have both pre and post external effects?
I heavily prefer the FM9 over the Helix, but the Helix has 4 independent loops on the back to turn on and off external pedals individually using the Helix… Is there a way to do the same with the FM9? I have 3 analog overdrives I’d wanna use with the Fractal. Is it possible to hook up those 3 pedals to the FM9 and be able to turn them on and off independently using the FM9?
Yes, you can use in2/out2 and in3/out3 as dual mono loops with some clever routing. For example, setting up 2 drives through out3/in3. -out3L - pedal 1 - in3L -out3R - pedal 2 - in3R on the grid split from out3 to 2 parallel chains. place a vol block first on each chain and set the block input to left only (this will select pedal 1) or input right only (this will select pedal 2). Set the vol block bypass mode to mute and engage/disengage as you see fit.
@@LeonTodd sorry to bother you again! Before I try this on an FM9, I’m trying it on my current FM3 using two overdrive pedals in the In2L/Out2L and In2R/Out2R like you had suggested… but I’m struggling on how to set the chain blocks running 2 parallel chains from Out2 like you suggested… do you have any graphics possibly on how the layout should look? Sorry, I’m switching over to a Fractal after YEARS of being all an analog… so this stuff is super confusing to me haha
What are you running with your fractal?

My pleasure! If you haven't checked out my delay blocks that mimic that pedal have a search on the forum ;)
How did you solve that problem thanks in advance for any help.
@@MKRISING75 If I remember correctly I had to set the input of the cab block to Stereo, hope this helps.
This is the lesson I was waiting for many time ago. Thanks you so much Leon, you rock!!!
About time I finally did it!
Thanks Leon, super understandable and useful content. Will be playing with my FM3 tonight and some pedals! Champion mate.
Have fun! Glad it helped mate.
fantastic video Leon! Thank you!

Yeah there's no right or wrong with this stuff!
Good stuff Maestro. Thx
Any time!
Great lesson. Thanks.👍
My pleasure!
Oh HUGE +1 on the "make sure out 3 knob is turned up". Ashamed to admit I've been there and it was NOT fun at all! Hahaha
I've been there as well

I got a touch of lag when doing this. I was using a fairly complex chain though.

The idea is if you want to use a stereo pedal you just remove the vol block from the preset rather than change the global settings.
How about 2 pedals, also how about inserting a pedal like a wah between the guitar and the axe fx

Leon, do you still have the Tonex pedal? If so, could you run that into the FM3 or FM9 in place of the amp modeling in the Fractals?
Yes indeed

Yep, split out of the in3 block into separate volume blocks and set the input modes to left/right respectively
