Do Hungarian People REALLY Eat This? ULTIMATE Hungary Street Food! 🇭🇺

- Solo in Hungary in a town of "Veszprém" which is is one of the most oldest urban areas in Hungary. It lies approximately 15 km north of the Lake Balaton. In this video I started the morning looking for a place where to get warm food, possibly coffee or tea, pastry or a traditional Hungarian breakfast. I visited a Hungarian bakery shop first which I saw next to a bus station but it was closed, so I walked towards the market. While I was walking through to go and find elsewhere to get food I take a tour to see what they have on this market. As I walked further into the market I smelt some really nice food in the air but at the time I was not sure where it was coming from. I asked a local market seller where could I buy food and he pointed me to a place where I could get Lángos and coffee. I then ordered my warm food to find out what does traditional Hungarian food really taste like. I ordered Lángos, which is a typical Hungarian street food. It is a deep fried flatbread, but in the past it was made of the last bits of the bread-dough and baked at the front of the brick or clay oven, to be served hot as the breakfast of the bread-baking day. After I had my breakfast I decided to tour the indoor market to see what’s inside. I discovered there was fruits and vegetables and also a butchers selling meat, cheese, salami, sausages or ham. I also saw a indoor bakery. I came across seller with a traditional Hungarian drink “kefir” I decided to try it which I realised it has its similarities with a traditional Slovak drink called Žinčica, which is a drink made of sheep milk whey similar to kefir consumed mostly in Slovakia and Poland. Do Hungarian people eat this often and what are your thoughts if you have tried it?

Welcome in Hungary !
Next time if you are eating Lángos dont forget the sour cream and cheese. :)
Absolutely, sour cream and/or grated cheese on top of the garlicky stuff!:)
garlic enough!
Cheese and sour cream is not originally inn Hungarian langos, only garlic is the original, but I love sour cream, I am doing langos at home
Garlic oil and grated chesee topping

They really wanted you to have an authentic lángos experience! Forgot the sourcream and the cheese though!
It's funny how they continue talking to you in hungarian when they already know you don't understand the language :D ❤
that is normal and the will say the same louder very slowly helping you NOT understand anyway .... :-)

garlic, cheese and sour cream should come with it, that is what most people chose (forget what people here suggest to put catchup on it. It would be like trying to get pizza with catchup in Italy)
In Czech Republic we love mayonese and ketchp with it :D
Edit: of course cheese and garlic
@@galato420 fine but then it is not realy an original langos, right? I mentioned pizza with catchup or gulyas as a tomato soup etc. None are real, just copy/fake. Of course even in Hungary fast food outlets are experimenting and would put anything on top what tourist wish just to sell it.
Teljesen igaz.
@@freebozkurt9277 trust me, if you had langos with garlic spread, cheese and ketchup on it, you would say: i allow this

Lángos lady does not seem to be to friendly. But you are such a positive person! See the best in everyone!
No she was not at all
No, that’s the type of Hungarian I can’t stand. She seems to hate her job and love the damn mobile phone.
Thanks bro for staying so lovely and positive, even tho some people seem to come across as rather rude or at least cold with you. I hope you are having a good time in my home country.
I wouldn't say they were rude, they just don't speak English so it was an uncomfortable situation for them and the camera didn't help as well. A lot of people don't want to be filmed for obvious reasons. They probably couldn't even understand the language.
The lady asked him in Hungarian to check if he speaks it to help her. He didn't so she wanted to get out of it as quick as possible.
Thanks to our educational system, most of the people don't speak or aren't comfortable to use any foreign language besides certain areas of Budapest, not even German (which could be more useful in some cases, as Austria and Germany are closer).
@@dodo.h2 I didn't say that either. That's why I wrote 'seem to come across' instead of 'being rude'.
Haha this was nice to watch! You’re so friendly and I’m glad they were with you as well. 🇭🇺

You should check out the old town of Veszprém not just the market place.
And you should also visit Győr and Sopron!
And budapest ofc 😂
Hey mate, thanks for another amazing video!
😎
André, it's bad to see you got a plain garlic lángos. That's not how most people eat it. Then when you went back and got only cheese on it, that's just ridiculous from that woman who served you. I don't think I've ever seen anyone eating lángos with cheese but without sour cream.
These are the levels:
Plain lángos
Lángos with sour cream
Lángos with sour cream and cheese.
In addition all these 3 can be seasoned with garlic oil.
Next time you come back to Hungary tell them: Sajtos tejfölös lángos please. You will love it.
are you sure? do Hungarians even eat it with anything else than garlic and salt? Strange.
Veszprém is my hometown and we used to go to that market many times when I was a kid. There were big bazaars outside on every Tuesday and Friday that time.
By the way, you should have put sour cream as well on the lángos like she suggested.
Kefir is not exactly a drink, it’s like yogurt as she explained there.
EDIT: Also, if you want some really fine honey, go to the opposite direction from the beginning of the video, turn left by the wide road and when you see an old green building on the right, turn there and walk down the street until the end. There’s the house of my old neighbor who makes the best honey 😂
Greetings from Ajka :)) with garlic sauce and sour cream is the best way to eat Lángos.

Hello 👋
@@g84all nice to meet you..how are you doing today
You’re so kind and cute! Thank you from a Hungarian
Dear André,
I like your videos a lot. You have such a nice spirit.
For lángos: We mixing water, flour, sugar, salt yeast and milk(some using yoghurt or sour cream, depend what they think is working more).
And we don't use an over for it, we use a big bowl of boiling oil.
You can also find "kenyér lángos" what is looks like a small square pizza to you.
Almost the same dough, just with baked potato instead of milk, so you will have more like a "heavy pizza dough", baked in an oven.
If I was the server I would have showed the different toppings!
I am really enjoying you and your video! Thank you!
Love your videos bro! It keeps me away from my depression! 👊

The different honey colours are depends on the pollen that the bees did collected. If the pollen is from acacia tree flower its gonna be a different colour than the one if they collected from linden tree flower, or from wild flowers for example. Simple as that. With the Langos there was a miscommunication. She asked id you would like to have sour cream on it in hungarian but you did not understand it, and she did not speak english so she just gave you the most basic one.
Hello, have a nice trip in Hungary. Hope you enjoy it.

Hey Andre! That town, Veszprem is close to my hometown, Wich is Szekesfehervar. Check it out if you have a chance. I live in Florida now, but I miss my home. By the way, the Langos comes like with or without cream and cheese. Whatever you want on it. Good video. Thank You, Andre.
The color of the honey depends what the bees made it of. Acacia is light in color and flavor but mixed flowers for example dark🙂.
I can’t believe that with all your travels around Czech going to markets etc,not to mention the amount of time you have lived there, that you’re telling us that it took a trip to Hungary for to you try Langoš!

Hey bro, just ask them to put sour cream & cheese on it every time you eat lángos. You won't regret it. Great content, keep it up! 👌
Langosh is my absolute favourite, just plain with garlic, like you had it. Occasionally with cheese and sour cream.
The seller did ask you, if you want it plain, and you seemed to agree.
@@jjk343 Sacrilege! Besides sacrilege the tartar sauce really doesn't fit, because it is oily, and the langosh is deep fried (that's why the middle is so lovely crunchy).

It's a nice dish but can be bit oily as fried in the deep oil pan. They could give you some grated cheese on the top and smotana in slovakian, which is like sour cream on the top of it. maybe creme freche. that is delicious, like the creamy halusky in slovakia that you had before. I hope you are enjoying Hungary.
Funny woman on the phone while serving customers, and then the market. You see fruits and vegetables and you say "WOW FRUITS AND VEGETABLES😆😆😆

The lángos is more like a weekend food for the healthier ones, but yeah thats our default fastfood, with garlic, sour cream and cheese. Sometimes extra bacon or ham if you fancy that. :D
Kefir is really sour yeah. :D

The color of honey is different because it is made from different flowers. Beekeepers can make pure honey from only one type of flower. In addition, there are also mixed flower honeys, they are cheaper.
There are different colors of honey in the market. There were several types, such as flower honey and acacia honey.
You can get langoš in Czech republic as well, not in the restaurants, but in these hungry windows sometimes...
But based on my czech grandparents memories it only got popular in cz in the balaton visiting era
Langos, originating in Slovakia, is a common snack in Slovakia, Hungary, Austria, Czech Republic e.t.c Best is the combo with cheese and ketchup
yes they do. Langos = osuch in Sk and Cz language is best with garlic, cheese and sour cream (smotana). In Hungary dont forget to ask around for "barackpalinka". I would forget about beer, they dont have a good one. Ok... last time in Budapest i had a very tasty beer - Stella Artois 😀
there is good Hungarian beer but it's expensive craft beer type stuff that's not always available and you have to know where to get it from (some of my relatives work in Szent András Sörfőzde, Pannonhalmi Apátság makes good stuff too)
14:12 honey is made from the nectar of different trees
😊loved how you go around saying Shia to everyone...made me smile too...you are such a nice person! Minden jot!=Wish you the best
Different colors of honey, come from different type of flowers, the bees ate 😀 (not neceserrily the flower color itself, but depending more on the plant species itself, e.g forrest flowers honey being darker, black locust tree flowers honey being lighter in color)
Super video.. hlavne ako hovoríš po česky v Maďarsku :D :D :D
hi Andre. the colors of the honeys are different because they are produced from different blooms.
Normaly we eat Langos with sour creme call names "tejföl" and with cheese called "sajt" let's check good rewieved bars pubs or restaurants you can find better brunch for in the mornings...
best langos is with garlic! thats the original one ! but also with sour cream tastes good
12:56 Andre , do you really not buy sousage? Or bacon? It will be really delicious ! I recommend you sousage Czabai as well
Jó étvágyat!
my favourite lángos is with garlic, sour cream, cheese and red onion. try it :)
Thanks your video, I loved it 😊 I'm sorry, that we Hungarians don't speak languages, this is sad, but I'm glad you stayed ín a good mood 😊
Do Brits in less cosmopolitan districts speak languages other than their own? Why would people who have lived most of their lives in a communist bubble in eastern Europe speak English? There's nothing to apologize for.
@@carpenterjim7906 that's right... Really
@@zsuzsabeer With that said I felt the same, but I thought I'd defend us ;)
Kefir is actually sour milk. Altough we drink it for nutritional supplement mostly. By the way differ color honey means differ ingredients and taste. Liked your tour in my hometown, but should let you know you were only at the small market in the city center, tho the only one with heating and roof. The hugest market is way out from city center and 4-5 times bigger than that one and its an open-area market.
You are so sweet :) This video was recommended to me and I like your content so I subscribed! If you're still in Hungary, let me know if you need help with anything :)

hi, I'm Hungarian, I laughed a lot when you asked for kefir, unfortunately, many Hungarians don't know English, kefir is a Hungarian product, it's fermented milk, I was curious when you drink it, it was very funny to see your head..😂😎👍
Hungarian langos with sour cream and cheese the best choice. Next time try it!
Even hungarians often arguing which lángos toppings are the best or what is the ideal mixture, myself I'm a "full extra" guy with garlic, sour creme and cheese but nothing wrong with the garlic only or the garlic-cheese version. Smoked cheese makes this food even better. The base is just a plain deep fried bread dough, so this is the best food before party and make sure to dance enough to burn those calories! :)
