The Truth That Nobody Tells You | Life in USA vs. Czech Republic!

- I was invited by an American university professor with Czech heritage from South Carolina region of the United States to do a short presentation amongst a group of American university students that had a interest in traveling or living in Czech republic. I was speaking with the group about my story living in the Czech republic. The reason why I decided to moved here, and about my travels how I engage with the local natives in the small villages and traveling in the non usual places where tourists don't visit, which for that reason professor Michael said I would be the ideal candidate to speak to the students about my travels here and just how do I get along here with normal life as there are cultural differences compared to where I am coming from in England and having a Caribbean heritage.

Tva videa maji takovy krasny nadech toho, co zazije cizinec, ktery navstvivi nejen Prahu, ale taky vesnice a potka se s lidmi, kteri nepracuji v turistickem ruchu. Proste receno, zprostredkovavas dojmy z navstevy neturistickych casti Ceska i Slovenska. A to je super.

Very informative Andre, I think loads of people don’t know the struggle how it is to live in another country. Many people just watch Hollywood American films and they think they know how life is in USA and they think that everyone will live American dream. I think USA is good country to live in if you born rich or if you billionaire, but worst country to live in if you are average person.
No true, if you doesnt have nothing to offer you cant expect easy life.
@@lukaszkupczak5707 it is true. Nobody is saying that we all have piece of cake life here in Czech Rep. just that it's much harder in US because education and healthcare is very expensive there.

I would rather be born in US ghetto than in Czech Republic. As there is always a way to climb up in western countries, while it's not really possible in corrupted Eastern Europe. Also Czech education system is much more difficult and people have to learn things that they really don't need to.

Same, I was more interested in what Andre had to say but being a university group they are expected to speak up and write about it later. Students that don't participate aren't engaged.

Andre I just discovered your channel a few weeks ago and have been enjoying it. I like your polite way of speaking but didn't recognize it as a totally British accent. Now I've learned your parents are from the Caribbean and hear it and love it. One thing I like about Czech, and Netherlands too, is people mind their own business there. In the USA everything is all up in your face and your anxiety levels are high. Do you know where in the USA these guys are from, what University?

Hi André. Interesting point of view of US citizens to USA. I was there for a three weeks trip and didn't realize these things about public transportation and also about how schools are funded. It's good to see/know this. I understand that also for you it was partially interesting to hear that as you being from UK it shouldn't be as much different here in CZ from the public transport view, etc... Thanks for sharing this 🙂 Greetings from Pilsen 🙂

Hi I m Czech girl I really like how these young Americans are open minded and able of self reflection. How they notice the differences between our societies and lifestyles. Hello dear 👋
These stories are so sad. Some people get upset when I say that American cities are designed "wrong", but it's true. This is not just a difference of opinion: American city design is not just on a *different* path than European cities, they're on the *wrong* path. The sooner they start to turn that around, the better.
I'm glad to see that these students were able to escape to Czechia.

Yeh, America, especially nowadays… no thanks. For the average European , there are very few reasons to want to move there anymore. Until maybe about 30 years ago (maybe even 20) it was still a dream for lots of people. Not anymore. Overall Standards of living are basically higher in Europe these days. It’s not just about money
interesting, however these students kept on talking too much... I was more interested what the invited speaker - Andre had to say.
I am perplexed, I must say by what have just said about the differences between western food vs. Czech breakfast.... Do you appreciate Subway or other fast food for breakfast ..? 😵😲come on .... it's just Americans who can believe this sh*t !!! ps. by the way ... it is your choice that you always eat Majka pate and rohlik for breakfast ... in the supermarkets or cafes/snack bars, you have other options, too .... just reminding you ...
yeah i always ate cereal for breakfast in the US and here I eat the same thing if i want. If I want eggs and toast I can make it myself as well and the bread is way better here 😃
@@ThePragueExpat0 absolutely, the bread and other bakery products from any small local bakery are the most wonderful homemade products for breakfast ... Americans can only dream about it .. especially in the South ...
I can sense a lot of frustration coming from the discussion and it is sad to hear that things have deteriorated, particularly for the younger generation. However, I think you are looking at Czech republic and Europe in general through rose tinted glasses. Some of the issues you mentioned (eg. inequality, social tension, racism) are here, too

Good afternoon, Your Excellency, the first President of the United States, George Washington, I order money. All the best. Furmanov.
So what this is telling me is that the USA is not the land of milk and honey that so many say. It seems that life in Europe is far more agreeable than living in the USA.
That is what the liberal college professors want their students to believe. The USA is still great.
You assume cz is europe ? Nooooo. Never ever. I think cz is just a sub Russian land still trying to find its identity. Everything in daily life reflects it.
haha as a czech teenager americans dont know nothing about czechia, and about the social life here, the villages are very differnet then normal life here And prague isnt Real czechia also and everything here is so differnet i think as i hear them (not sure)
More americans please come live here, you are more than welcome here, you will like it:) Although gas is expensive, cars dont consume that much in here as F150s, weed will be legal here soon, public transport is great and we have a lot of walkable neighbourhoods. We still have to build a lot of freeways. Maybe Austria will be better for you, they are almost the same as us, mostly only less freedom and more fences, but just a little bit
Gas is almost as expensive in California as it is here now :) When I moved here I traded my American SUV for a tiny car and it is no problem. I love the Czech Republic
come on man... Austria is not better than us :)
There are plenty of walkable neighborhoods in the US. It depends on if you're in a large city or not. It different from city to city. The US is fine. I wouldn't listen to collage professors that tell students their liberal opinions.

The problem with this video is that the foreign students try to analyze Czech Republic from a perspective of a college student from a foreign country living in a pretty big city - coz thats what they are. They didnt grow up here and dont get the whole picture. Their criticism of the US can also be applied to Czech Republic, youd just have to leave your "American/Foreign student community" and go to the countryside or non-foreign student friendly cities. They shouldnt just look at the statistics, they should also go to elementary schools and high schools, you know, see how people are living outside of those student safeheavens or actual wealthy areas. A lot of these issues theyre talking about are also present here in Czech Republic, they just dont fucking care or dont see it.
Of course Americans have problems that are specific to their country but we also have problems specific to our country and theyre not suddenly less relevant just because their ideological view is more inline with Czech Republic than America. Im not gonna pretend like the US is great, but Im also not gonna pretend that Czechia is a fucking wonderland utopia. The Czech Republic isnt a paradise, Europe isnt a paradise. If you present yourself as a tourist or a foreigner to Czechs, youre gonna get a drastically different experience than natives.
If youre a foreign student, youre not gonna truly experience what is it like to live here, youre gonna experience what is it like to live here as a foreign student or a foreigner. And your native culture will absolutely blur your view of the Czech culture, theres so many things you dont notice when you dont speak good fluent Czech or dont know the social norms etc.
Prague is the worst place to experience authentic Czech Republic, which is both a good thing and a bad thing depending on the context. Cities with foreign student communities like Brno, Olomouc etc are also not going to give you an honest representation of what this country is like.
Youre always going to be treated differently when youre a foreigner who is not fully integrated either because you look far to different from the natives or you just didnt put enough effort into it. Youre gonna get special treatment, a lot of times its gonna be really good, sometimes its gonna be bad and its gonna be specific to you.
Dont get fucking fooled man.
When I get sick I go to a doctor and know I will get treated and won't end up bankrupt. When my child goes to school I know he will be safe there. When I go around I don't see homeless people everywhere in the streets. If you care only about yourself and the fact that you can probably make more money in the US then sure the country is great. I don't have such values though, the above is most important so in comparison with the USA it almost feels like a utopia.
When I go vote or to the federal police I don't have to be afraid of trigger-happy civilians with assault rifles intimidating voters or policemen.
Interesting that even though they don't know the country, you could see how well they all see that people in the US are afraid.
Prague is not the worst place to experience life in CZ. I don't know how well you know Prague but there is more than Charles Bridge. There is a million people living normal lives. Most people live in towns in CZ so actually it's not the villages that show you the real life.
@@oskarfabian5200 Exactly 💯. Well said.
We don't have such big differences between cities and regions, Prague is still very Czech experience. Only difference is that you probably need a car when you live in some rural area. People can act like rednecks even in Prague, people are similar everywhere, except Nymburk region, there must be some factory where they make extremely stupid people. 😀
@@oskarfabian5200 I'm a fucking native. You have NOT experienced what Czech Republic is like if you live in your multicultural and highly developed bubble. That's the entire point of my original comment, what the hell?
Strawman all you want, the point of my comment was not to compare politics of Czech Republic and someone's origin country but rather to compare Czech culture and society and the origin country's society/culture. I was criticizing how foreigners perceive Czech Republic.
People like you are absolutely blind to all the problems Czechia because you guys masturbate over the fact that we have social welfare and public healthcare. Czech Republic is not a great place to live in, it's a decent place to live in if you can put up with a lot of bullshit.
If you're a native, you should fucking know what kind of problems we got here and how people behave. If you can't acknowledge the possibility that Czech Republic might have a ton of problems both cultural, political, socio-economical etc and you'd still rather go on a stupid fucking strawman rant then just don't bother.

Ahhh.... American's depressing preoccupation with race... I go to Czechia to escape it.
I never seen such high racism in Europe other than in Cz. But racism here is from ignorance of local people. Impressive.

I think your experiences are limited, and highly influenced by "tourist vision." Czechs are the most prejudiced nation in the world.. They are openly racist and not ashamed of it. They think sun revolves around them and their “wonderful” country. In addition, in CR, there is the highest anti-American sentiment of all nations. Not sure why you would study in such an unfriendly nation where Americans are openly considered to be stupid, backward, and blamed for all the bad that happens around the world. That is why I've left CR and don't think I want to return. Thank you and good luck!

I'm thankful my grandfather came to the US from Czechoslovakia back in 1914. And grandmas parents came from there to Texas a little earlier. I'm proud to be an American.
Gosh how i relate to you on Cz being a desperation hole. Nobody seems to be aware. And your comment made my day. But i noticed though that Cz racism is from ignorance. People in cz are not aware of their world. They are stuck in center and have identity crisis. I wonder how they belong to EU. It should be reattached to Russia in every way. And they don't seem aware of that.
@@frantisekoliva6304dear, I think the amount of idiots like you say are much higher in numbers in cz vs world average. I speak from experience. What a delusion i had. Its interesting to see the two american professors - you can easily see what America is strugling with from it - the older blue white shirt professor was spot on - the problem is poverty and poor neighbourhoods. Thats it. The other little chin beard professor immediately started with marxist racist nonsense about some structural racism blah blah blah when the problem is clearly about poverty in general. Its not about race in slightest.
Making schools federal funded as the purple guy in the end says is also nonsense! The anwer is easy - its school choice! All Czechs around should have shouted at them nonstop School Choice! School Choice! School Choice! In USA people in general cannot choose to which public school they will send their kids, which is absolute nonsense in eyes of Czech person. Choosing good school for your kid is the basic of czech elementary school system. And the lack of it is one of the basics why the american structural poverty of those neighbourhoods is locked in.
The other reason for structural poverty is very clear and very simple - its fatherlessness - in US fatherlessness spiked when president Lyndon B. Johnson destroyed black communities and also poor white communities by subsidizing poor single mothers to the point that it was financially benefitial to the family when the father left the family. Which happened on a mass scale and caused the children growing up without male role models, which lead to big spike in crime rates - that manifested around the 80s as mentioned in video when these fatherless children grew up. In Czechoslovakia we never had this fatherlessnes problem because we never subsidized single parent families. Thats one of the reason we are about 6th safest country in the world. (only czech community that has been dealing with lack of fathers are gipsies whos way of life was destroyed by the communists and they have been struggling with adapting)
@@ThePragueExpat0 Technically you cannot get fired or persecuted for anything I wrote there because everything is factually true... but you can get targeted with manufactured smear designed to end your public existence for daring to describe objective reality in attempt to better the world around you... these marxist types really dont like that thats true.
But its not that bad - only in extremely left wing circles you get these problems - that means in universities and in american international companies. Most of american population wouldnt dream of cancelling anyone and is pretty upset with it too.
