As a musician, Ebenholz is basically a great love letter to classical music. Very majestic E2 art, and quite a fun gimmick. He's an instant pull for me.
"If bad/niche operator, why hot?" But honestly, I personally love niche operators like him, he's very fun to use, albeit there is a definite learning curve to be sure. Like Passenger, I summoned for him regardless of all the issues people had with his kit because his art is really pretty and his skills are very satisfying to activate.
I also like niche units and I think he's cool looking. The main problem is the upcoming banners. There's just SO much to pull for. Uncle Nearl, Texas, Penance, Pozyomka, Gavial and Reed are all so cool. And even Stainless and Dorothy look fun. Unless you're an uber whale you're gonna have to cut corners somewhere and to me Ebenholz is a corner I need to cut.
Took me 50 pulls for him to get home, now I have nothing left. I really like him anyways, so its not a bad choice. Not interested in Dorothy, and for Gavial alter I'll let my luck on free pulls decide for that. After that, comes -hell- my favorites, Mlynar, Stainless, Penance and Texas alter.
I pulled for niche operators since i started playing this game because what's attracted me to this game originally is the amazing character designs. Honestly, i think I made a very great decision because now i got almost all operators without spending any money 👌 P.s i got them metas through recruitment or spooks (looking at SilverAsh, Ifrit, Saria, Thorns, Muddy etc.)
Really love his EN voice, bonus points for the VA being native german. I love how EN doesn't always rely on British/American voices and decides to be creative and immersive
Wanted one Hibiscus to play around with a new archetype and got this beautiful boy as a bonus. Could be a fun alternative option down the line, especially after Y module.
Its important to note some of the fun techs u can do with him, like activating his 3rd skill while a regular fully charged shot is in the air, applying the buff to the current shot while also building another fully charged shot effectively doubling his damage.
I did not regret rolling and building this guy despite facing a limited banner next. He carries a lot in IC-S-3 and other difficult stages in the new event after Lingering Echoes.
I got Ebenholz in the first three pulls and got him to E1 already.. Definitely a good OP for Niche players.. However, I don't see much use for him aside clearing bosses. I did get Hibiscus Alter however, and her stats seem alright.. I'm going to build her up and compare Hibiscus Alter to her 3 Star version since Hibiscus E1 with everything Maxed on her I still use cause her healing is pretty good.
Not sure if this is good advice but focus on ops you use a lot that are pretty powerful in their archetype (also if they have a module). I'd recommend versatile, easy to use, and/or strong operators that you (maybe) use a lot such as Saria, Ptilopsis, Irene, etc. Core archetypes like pioneer vanguards, ST medics, and marksman snipers are probably the best candidates. It also depends on what you need. You need a sturdier defender? Slap a module on that bad boy. You need more healing? Slap a module on that bad boy. Now, if you have enough resources and want to do shits and giggles moment, you can upgrade operators with very specific niches. Not recommended, only if you wanna challenge yourself a whole bunch and if you just really like that operator. This includes archetypes that are already niche like mystic casters and hexers.
Whoever has a useful module that can help the op the most, if you want to really use them (Mostima, Passenger), or ones that make strong ops stronger, or frankly just to upgrade operators to make them a lot lot better

Like upping Saria's module further isn't likely to benefit you a ton, but upping Mostima's gives you something unique... an 18% map-wide slow. I'd consider the latter more valuable, because it gives you something you didn't have before, and that can open up new strats. And there are also some that are worth getting to 2, but maybe not to 3. Ch'en would be an example of that. Going from 1 to 2 reduces the time between SP ticks from 4 to 3 seconds. So if you like using her to charge up atk or def charging characters, upping her module to 2 is quite worthwhile. Heck, also handy if you like using her to deal damage. But the 3rd rank won't reduce the time between ticks, so isn't really worth it.

Did 6 10 rolls because I wanted Hibiscus. On the last 10 roll I managed to get Hibiscus alter and Ebenholz. Before that I got an Ashlock and like 5 BP despite BP already being max pot. I think BP has a bit of a yandere streak.

I actually pulled him in 20 pulls, but I wasted 40 more trying (and failing) to get Hibisquick- I mean Hibis Alter 😓 (For my non-American friends, there's a brand of quick-rise flour called Bisquick that's for making biscuits...and Hibiscus seemed to have used it on herself, if you get my drift...😏)
At this point I feel obliged to roll for every 6*, but since I only buy monthly card and I´m not a huge fan og mystic casters I was only willing to go to the first 6* for Ebenholz... Luckily I won the 50/50 and Hibiscus came too, so I maintain my full collection XD.

You know what else synergises with his charging mechanism? Stun mines. W, Frost and Robin can ensure the enemies don't reach Ebenholz minefield until its ready. When Dorothy releases, that will be 5 operators which can place mines.
Sleep mines when? Probably won't be the most useful type, but would be funny to have it explode, deal damage, then the enemy goes to sleep for couple seconds. Also sleep synergies with Eben the most since you can't attack sleeping enemies unless the operator's talent/skill effect said otherwise so he can build up charge then bomb the enemy once they wake up.

Sleep mines when? Probably won't be the most useful type, but would be funny to have it explode, deal damage, then the enemy goes to sleep for couple seconds. Also sleep synergies with Eben the most since you can't attack sleeping enemies unless the operator's talent/skill effect said otherwise so he can build up charge then bomb the enemy once they wake up.
