Sandhills of NC. Golfing area. Yall got 2-3 times snow we got. Here trout are dieing & closed for fishing. Last snow i saw on nc beach…100s of stone crabs washed up. Maybe steamed as many as we could eat.
@BamaBeachBum every year first week of June whole family goes to Perdido Key. This year will be my 14th trip. Unless a storm changes plans. Last year me, my wife and father n law visited you store. Got some stuff. We from Harahan Louisiana. I know your area well. I talk with my 3 brother n laws..maybe book trip. Catch you on next video.
That's why nothing's being caught because they're out in warmer water, deeper water where it's warm and when it's really cold like that you will have some fish kills like that we had one here where I am
Around 50 years ago there was a freeze along the central Gulf of Mexico. Ya know before Florida was over built and restrictions went into effect. My father and brother dropped the Jon boat and collected floating, stunned and dead snook. They cleaned for hours and filled a small freezer. We ate for a year plus and NO ONE ever said, "I've had enough snook." Best eating fish ever!
If you did that today, you'd be under the jail! The FWC really is on the prowl in the Daytona Beach area when they have hard freezes. Just like you said, dead or barley live snook by the hundreds and the buzzards come in by the hundreds too.
Many years ago, a hard freeze killed a lot of snook in SW Florida; they were floating everywhere. I read that a biologist said the surviving snook and their offspring would have a genetic change, allowing them to better tolerate the cold. That's when the snook started migrating north to the Panhandle and Alabama.
Unfortunately the spec loss in NC and VA is close to catastrophic on top of a comercial fishery who has already stressed the population. NC has already closed all speckled trout fishing on both sides
Mexicans in SC talking oysters out of the marsh and catching flounder and everything else in their giant cast nets have hurt sc inshore fishing pretty bad
On Johnson Beach there was a lot of dead mangrove snapper, juvenile pompano, palometa and barracuda, mullet and lady fish. We saved a green sea turtle out there as well. He was transported to the gulfarium
About the snowman comment. Sometimes, the snow comes down wet and heavy and is perfect right away for building snowmen, snow forts and snow balls. Just my two cents for the North Star state.
With Rising Water Temps/Overall Temperatures fish and animals are moving away from the equator in search of their preferred water temps/overall temps. More and more Snook will start showing up in your area.
Water temperatures are not rising at all. You have been listening to way too much climate change propaganda. Do you know that the Antartic sea ice has grown by 17% in the past ten years? The ice caps are growing.
New Hampshire here! You can definitly make snow men the first day. Some snow comes down heavy and wet, another time if its colder, it'll be dry and not clump together. Tight lines
We had a fish kill in Galveston bay in the late seventies. We went out with a net and scooped up a cooler full of all species. The water freezes on top ,I think because of the huge rain before the freeze. I’m so shocked that it happened in the gulf. By the way in Texas we never said Gulf of Mexico. Just the gulf. I’m in Hawaii now for twenty years. Don’t miss the cold but I definitely miss fishin the flats and gulf. Love the channel and plan a trip to the mainland soon and want to book a trip with y’all.
You can make snow balls and men when snowing air temperature is 32 degrees (plus and minus 4 degrees). That is wet heavy snow and brings down wires, tree branches, and roofs. Roads are very slick because weight of tires melts snow and lubricates the roadway. Dry snow does not pack and if you have high winds it drifts.
ya 4 years ago here in Texas when we had that hard freeze for 3 days. we had some big fish kills along the coast mainly the speckled trout population was really impacted. they just now starting to let people keep more than 1 or 2 trout.
Didn't you have fish kills in fresh water too? People released their tropical fish in ponds when they got too big for their aquariums, and their progeny couldn't handle the cold temps.
Back in the late 70's, the temperature went to 4⁰. People were dip netting frozen mullet by the bucketful. There was ice on Pensacola bay. Best fish fry I ever had.
Hey beach bum yea we had similar results over here in Texas. Back in 2021 we lost a ton of redfish and trout. Due to the loss of such fish the Texas wildlife and gaming put restrictions on trout. If I remember correctly it was min 15" to 20" max. And limit of three or so. Just to get the population back up.
Went out to the Hathaway bridge in Panama City just to test the waters and got no bites at all as well. I did not see the die off, but it may have just been the immediate area that I was in. But it was very rare not to have even pin fish bites.
NCDMF closed Speckled Trout for recreational and commercial fishermen on Jan 24 until June. Speckled Trout have been found dead all along coast 18-20+ inches. Sad to see for everyone.
All that snow runoff is keeping the temperature of the water low, unfortunately the conditions dropped the temperatures at low tide put the fish in shock and they died
years ago there was a cold spell in edgewater--new smyrna beach. we went fishing in the intercoastal a few days later and there were quite a few dead fish, especially snook.
Though I now live in Virginia I'm still a yankee. Die offs after a freeze up are normal. the fish don;t move to deeper water due to water cooling slower, I bet that storm not only shocked you and yours but the fish had no idea, stayed shallow and died. The pictures didn't look so bad so I guess you were lucky.
Speckled trout will "freeze" & die when water temp is 38°. Tilapia "freeze" when the water temp is 43°. These are the only two fish species I have seen data on, where they are unable to survive at or below.
Drove down Lillian Hwy in Pensacola for work Friday, and right on the shore there were hundreds of dead mullet that I saw, probably thousands all over the bay, never saw anything like it
Damn BeachBum.. You click baited me. When I saw that picture you put up on your video I was sick. But glad not much damage of fissh kill places you went.
Wish I could have been there to see all you southerners playing in the snow! LOL that was like a once in a lifetime thing and half the people probably didn't have any clothing for it. People running around in flip flops and had to put their crocks in 4x4 mode!
How cold did the water get? I remember being in Virginia in early January a few years ago, 54 degree water and people were catching specs. Apparently that was normal for that time of year.
I’m not sure. And speckled trout are usually a good target in the colder months. It seems as though they have taken a hit with the extreme cold across the area.
These things happen... The water salinity has changed because of the the snow... The temps make fish lethargic and slow. I see chum in the water for a lively and fed ecosystem.
SHOULD HAVE WENT BACK INTO THE creek inlet. My boy lives there and took pictures of literally thousands of dead fish behind his house. And I mean thousands. IVE SEEN THE PICS. HAVE THEM ON MY PHONE.

It is normal to have silver mullet die on artic fronts. It's just nature. Happen many times. Blue crabs, black mullet, and 95% of species survive. Silver Mullet dont do good in the cold. Didn't hurt the fishery.
Its probably going to take several weeks for things to get back to what your normal is. Of the fish who survived, they most likely headed for deeper water to keep from freezing. Got to love Global Warming. Yes I know, its warming, not snowing. But as the planet warms, there will be more moisture in the air. It has go come down, sooner or later. Stay safe.
Cold snaps down in South Florida nuke the fish I remember in the early eighties dead snook everywhere the golf takes a beating 💓 and keeps on kicking whether it's red tide or freeze
The fish head for the deepest water there is. I guess some fish are dummies.😂 The Texas Wildlife restricts areas because the fish congregate and are to easy to wipe out. I really thought we would get a vid of you or your group fishing while it was snowing? We got snow but not as much as Y’all.

It’s a shame that global “ warming” has made things so “ warm!” It is a shame that those fish did not survive. However, the birds , crabs and others will have their bellies filled. That’s how God works!

Snow always stays in places of Shadows when the sun doesn't hit a spot all day long the snow is going to stay there at least 3 to 4 days after the regular snow disappears that it's in sunlight the shadows will always hold the snow
Thanks for watching! Book a trip this year when you come down on vacation! We will find some live fish! beardedbumadventures.com
Might be nice if you let everyone know where you are
@ we do have that on the site! But we can cover trips from Navarre, FL to Fort Morgan, AL!

Makes me wonder how the blue crabs will be impacted. Assuming the cold didn't bother them too much, they'll have plenty to eat for a few weeks.
That was my first thought.
"Bet the crabs'll be thrilled"....
Crabs go in the mud when it gets cold they’ll be fine
Lol crap feast!

All I can say is don't always believe what you read on the internet
This is a normal occurrence along the Gulf coast when we get a few days of extremely cold weather. It's nothing to worry about.
On Johnson Beach there was a lot of dead mangrove snapper, juvenile pompano, palometa and barracuda, mullet and lady fish. We saved a green sea turtle out there as well. He was transported to the gulfarium
We are in PCB. That was so cool to have snow here too! I haven’t tried to fish much since its been so cold
SNOW LOOKED LIKE FAMILY FUN!!!! And you Lived it. Well Done.

Lol it is very strange!
You can make a snowman day 1 if you get wet heavy snow fall. It's not always a dry powder snow
We were fishing the pass on Thursday and we seen prolly 50-75 dead spade fish floating through it was sad some very nice sized ones😢
That powdery snow is great for skiing. Too bad there are no mountains down there.
Fred will be so happy!
The cold snaps and some fish dying is just part of nature! Don't panic they will bounce back! God bless y'all 🙏
That is what I was afraid of . We had massive fish kills in Texas several years back when we had a very cold week.

The melt runoff is why the water is so clear. The salinity of the water is low so the fish are further out in warmer more stable water.
It’s not just yall. Our water levels here in swansboro are the lowest that some of these captains who’ve been here their whole life have seen.
the fish will move to the deepest water they can get too, that's where the warmest water will be.

My coworker suggested that Trump changing the name is to circumvent the Worst POTUS in history's e.o. to stop drilling in the G.O.M.
