Editing Morgan Wallen's 36-Song Album Into A Perfect 12 Songs
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 чер 2024
- Morgan Wallen's third album 'One Thing At A Time' is out, and it's already taking the country music world - and, really, the music world in general - by storm. It's breaking records as a streaming and sales behemoth, and it's set to have a record-setting debut on the chart.
Honestly, it's a pretty good record -- similar in tone to Dangerous, in my opinion - but it's also way too damn long. It's got 36 songs, and it clocks in at 1 hour and 52 minutes total, and so I thought for my album review, I'd winnow down the track list to the ideal 12 songs.
Here's my edit in playlist form:

the fact Grady got this video down to 24 minutes is astonishing.
Truly.
@@GradySmith Hey, my favorite song is “Man Made A Bar”, too, and my cover on all my socials could make your day, Grady. Just gotta rehearse it and put it up on Friday. That’s my goal, at least.
I wrote the book.. why is no one talking about this banger. It is hands down the best summer drive home from work song on this album.
I also agree on this. Screaming this song on the drive home from work
My favorite one personally
The word play in that song is so good. “Those get you in to Heaven letters in red, ain’t get read enough to keep me on a straight line.” 🔥
Weird that he didn’t mention it. 😮
In a previous video he mentioned the word play didn't land, for him..
“I used to be the 1 but now I’m just an (865)”
Shocked Grady wasn’t more into “Tennessee Numbers”, great writing and sound
Tennessee Numbers was one of my favorites
Best song on the album IMO
One of my favorite lines!
The keeping up with the Jones line on 98 braves is so fire
I thought that line was pretty obvious. I like the one about neither the season nor the relationship ending with a ring on the hand.
Ring on the hand is more obvious than Keeping Up With The Jones IMO
Yea unless you follow baseball it would’ve gone over most people heads.
I actually have come to prefer the long albums. While I love the play-through ability of a traditional 10-15 song album, that’s not what I’m doing most of the time. I loved the fact that American Heartbreak took me like 6 whole months to stop finding lyrics I loved in songs I listened to all the time. That many songs provides Easter eggs on Easter eggs. Love it.
I think the fact that everybody’s 12 songs they like most varies so much, justifies the album being as big as it is
‘98 Braves,’ ‘Man Made A Bar’ and ‘Keith Whitley’ are my personal 3 favorites of the newer released songs. I still think ‘Thought You Should Know’ and ‘Don’t Think Jesus’ are a couple of the best songs to be released by any artist in the past year or so
Yess! Agreed!!
man made a bar had me in tears lmaoo
The best ones
Same
The fact that I choose 12 completely different songs is why this album is so impressive. It plays to a diverse audience. Brilliant album by a creative artist!
Word! 👍
Keith Whitley is my go to on this album. Just gorgeous
@Caleb Ruehss the reason I love the song is because I love Keith Whitley as an artist lol
Underrated song is definitely "I deserve a drink". First time I heard it I wasn't feeling it, but the song keeps growing on you. Now i'm belting the line "your'e burning hotter than a bourbon with no water"
agreed!! it’s my fav off the album too. the song just hits different. cant wait to be driving down dirt roads in the summer with the windows open, blasting it
I think Water into Wine and Tennessee numbers are very underrated. Both are lyrical masterpieces and every country sounding. I personally love that this album had 36 songs because there are so many different sounds all in one album that you can’t get in a 12 song album. 10/10 one of the best country albums ever
I totally agree, especially Wine into Water!
I really love how every comment shares their favorite songs, and all the songs are different. That’s just really cool how different songs strike a chord with different people. Probably why he’s at the top of the game right now
Me to me and Tennessee Numbers are hella underrated! Love the content and everyone’s different opinion! Morgan makes the album so long to reach different audiences and we can all agree he does!
Me to Me has been my go-to whenever I restart listening
That’s what I’m saying. Me to me just slaps
@@TheBowman5 just that opening guitar riff gets me!
I loveee them both especially Tennessee Numbers 🧡
The chorus in “devil don’t know” gives me goosebumps. Absolutely one of my favorites
Feel the same way. Something about the chorus in that. It’s haunting in a very strange way. It drops me in this place of melancholy.
Such a great song
@@puzzledzach EXACTLY!!
@@puzzledzachvery well said! That is the perfect way to describe it
Wine Into Water and I Deserve A Drink are probably my go-to’s right now, the vocals on those are killer!
I can’t stop listening to I Deserve A Drink
The haunting guitar on those 2 songs sound so cool. I also just like the “I'm here to say sorry with a to the top glass of that Napa Valley vine Cabernet” it just sounds cool love that song
YES!! Super underrated for sure
"I'm out here soakin' up your porch light glow
With an apology in my left hand
Hope it tastes like a second chance" So darn good!!!!
I've listened to the album in full countless times already. I'm pretty obsessed lol
same
Same. He’s a once of a generation artist
Agree! I catch more and more as I listen more and more. I’m into every song! I caught something in “I deserve a drink”…. Really, really listen - he’s not saying he deserves a drink of liquor, he’s saying he deserves a drink of this woman. Awesome album! I’m a huge Morgan Wallen fan!
@@jakeschubert9105 Agreed. Some of them took a couple of listens but now I'm fully into all 36 of them.
@@AC-jp1lm so glad I’m not alone!
The lyric in 98 Braves of keepin up with the Joneses and referencing Andruw and Chipper (two of the better players on the team both with the last name Jones) is such a great line and I thought for sure you would’ve referenced it in the segment on that song.
As someone who doesn’t watch baseball and was born in 2000 I would have never known. That is genius!
@@derekhayner7984 haha I'm in the same boat as you (2000 baby and not a huge baseball guy). I just remember Chipper Jones cause his nickname is Chipper. And my knowledge of Andruw only goes as far as knowing his name is spelled with a U and not an E. I had to look up the lineup to make sure that was the reference lol.
Considering Grady referred to the 98 NLCS as the "ALC Championship" I think it's clear he's not a big enough baseball fan to get the reference
I think it says a lot that you can go through these comments and find almost all 36 songs where people are saying it's one of their favorites. Really speaks to how incredible this album is top-to-bottom, even as a 36-song project.
Like everything he puts out, I like it more and more with each listen. Even ones I didn’t like initially are all of the sudden not being skipped on my 12th listen through.
Also maybe there’s some songs that could be cut but I’ll never say no to more music from my favorite artists. Keep the 36 song albums coming
I so agree with this. Even the ones that aren’t necessarily my go-tos and I skip most of the time, I wouldn’t prefer they were cut altogether. I like having the options there because they are all still good songs. I will say there are like 2 I could fully live without, but other than that I’m totally happy with it.
Sunrise is an amazing song. That crazy constant swirly guitar and the melody he creates with his voice is really unique. I hope it grows on you.
So freakin catchy!!! That hook is so good
It’s a great song but could do without the trap beats imho
I love it.
Absolutely amazing song
As someone who understands why longer albums can be a lot to digest and may be seen as “lesser”, I also can enjoy the longer albums. I just love to listen to music and this gives me more to listen to and love. But I also love albums like Ernest’s “Flower Shops” for the story it can tell in around 10 songs
I actually have come to prefer them. While I love the play-through ability or a traditional 10-15 song album, that’s not what I’m doing most of the time. I loved the fact that American Heartbreak took me like 6 whole months to stop finding lyrics I loved in songs I listened to all the time. That many songs provides Easter eggs on Easter eggs. Love it.
@@TheBowman5 took me 4 listen’s through before I realized I really like wine into water. Idk why but the chorus just sounds so cool to me and I like the lyrics. I have come to agree that long albums aren’t bad. it looks overwhelming having 36 songs so maybe it’s scary to a casual listener or a new listener but to a diehard Morgan fan it’s fun to listen through multiple times and find new favorites and new lyrics you missed the first time
My favourite ‘alt’ leaning track is Last Drive Drown Main because it’s only a few production choices away from being pop-punk, like I can visualise the sound of it. I feel like it could be sick live if he leaned into that.
"Thought You Should Know" is truly one of the songs that has touched me the most in like the last decade of country music. And lol I swear I'm not just saying that because my family lives in the same town Morgan was born in 😉
Tennessee Fan & 98 Braves are the clear standouts for me but just brilliant album overall. A man on top of his game right now.
Great video as always mate!
This album grows on me the more I listened to it. There at 10-12 songs that I really enjoy and the rest are good. I enjoy it being so long because I can press play and let it go. I’ve never really been someone who listens to albums for a collective story.
My favourite is definitely Devil Don't Know, there's a very haunting energy to it that I love.
Also Wine into Water is one of my favourites and I don't see many people mentioning it. I feel like it has a classic rock kinda feel to it
I really like Wine Into Water! “And turn this wine into water under the bridge” is a great play on words.
Devil don't know, is really good.
Love both of those. I especially love the wordplay of turning wine into water… under the bridge.
I loved the cleverness of Keith Whitley … and also how Morgan sang it in parts to echo Whitley’s singing style. And I stan I Deserve a Drink and Everything I Love.
The man got some 30-31 songs off this album on the top 100. It didn't need to be shorter.
Thinkin Bout Me is definitely my fav “rap” song on the album. Tennessee Numbers is prolly the most underrated.
Album gets better every time i get through it.
100% agree!!!!
Everything I Love is OUTSTANDING!! Probably one of my fav' MW songs. I really like One Thing at a Time as well, but I need to listen to the whole album a few more times. Good review!
As someone who loves a little hip in the hop, and country at it's purest form, I love this album. I generally hate country and rap but I think Morgan delivers it well. Great review once again Grady.
So glad I found this channel. I am from South-Africa and I'm always looking to expand my musical experience. Since I started on this country musical journey, not once have you steered me wrong. Thank you.
“Hope That’s True” is so good. Glad you included it on your list!
I like that one too lol.
Grady I love this review! What a great idea for such a long album (that I LOVE) You have a talent here and you have a way with words. You basically put the thoughts swirling around in my brain into a well thought out, well descriptive, and well educated review. You rock. THANK YOU! I also love the editing here.. really well done. I can’t imagine how long this took to make with the videos, lyrics, and music clips.
Me and all your reasons is my favorite song on the album and nobody is talking about it 😢
I agree it’s my favorite
Best song on the album
I’m shocked I deserve a drink isn’t a more popular song, the lyrics are so well written and it just hits so deep
Great video Grady!
The fact Morgan is sticking with the LONG albums with crossover hits just shows his talent and mass appeal! Everyone can find something they connect with.
98’ Braves, Devil Don’t Know, Tennessee Numbers, Man Made a Bar, Keith Whitley…etc…so much good music!
Going to see Morgan next week in Auckland, New Zealand. Be interesting to see how much of this album he plays. Not a great fan, but have to support country singers that venture to this part of the world.
It's a fun show live! The crowd is also similar to a Swift or Zach Bryan crowd in that they know EVERY word, so it's v electric feeling.
@@GradySmith I suspect I will be the oldest person there by about 20 years, but I could be wrong.
Gotta say Grady, I appreciate your videos and no joke I was literally just thinking about doing something like this last weekend! Just putting my favorite songs into a playlist of sorts. Great idea for these long albums!
This is a really unique and cool way to review a big album like this, and I still felt like the songs you didn’t put in you still mentioned your thoughts on those. Thanks Grady!!
I loved almost all the songs you put on your list! I just haven’t had enough time to fully enjoy all of them enough to listen to all 12 of those in depth😂
What a phenomenally thought out video. Subscribed for the great care and effort you put into the analysis of Morgan's album.
Love the video man! I think your take on this album was great!
I love this video/review style!! I agreed with you on so many choices and enjoyed guessing which ones you were going to pick.
HOPE THAT'S TRUE IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES OFF THIS ALBUM.
Thank you for including it.
Your list is so good. Nailed all the songs that really resonated with me. Hell yeah brother.
Thank you Grady. You saved this album for me. You got the highlights many of which were released before the album was. I was super disappointed in the whole album that sounds like one king 2 hour song but breaking it down like this makes it much much more enjoyable
I love the way you formatted this because in full the album is overwhelming with the amount of songs and I thought it should be cut down big time, but then trying to cut out songs deems to be such a challenge and I realize how much I individually like the songs
Loved this video idea, Grady… I boiled my favorites down to about 15 tracks… would love to see this for other longer albums
Loved your picks but also glad he included 36 to give us more! Me + All Your Reasons and Devil Don't know is the mood I choose most!
Love the video. My favorite is probably "Dying Man," and "Last Night" is a song I can't stop listening to.
I patiently waited for the rating and your condensed album and you didn’t disappoint. I would have picked a very similar list of tracks.
Love the dedication to your content man. Keep it coming!
Even when you discuss an artist I don’t particularly like, I always learn from and enjoy your reviews. 😊
I liked this style of review Grady! Good stuff man!!😁🤙🏻
I think you picked most of my favs! I felt the same way about “Ain’t that some”. I can’t stop playing it! 😂 I will listen to Ernest next!
Loved this take on the album! The album was really long… but out of your 12, I had 5 favorites. Usually, I find my next favorite songs from your videos! My current favorite though is Outlook.. we’ll see what it is next week 😂
Grady screaming at the beginning made my day 🤣🤣🤣
ETA: Now that I've finished the video - great job Grady! That must have been an intimidating album to cover.
Last Night and '98 braves are my two favorite songs. Generally agree with how you cut the album.
Great review Grady. You summed the album up perfectly including its flaws without ever seeming bitter or negative. Cheers
"Wine into water" is such an amazing song!!!
I’m not really a country fan but “Last night” and “You proof” definitely makes me want to look for some more good country songs/artists
In my opinion there is absolutely nothing wrong with having such a long album. It’s not made to be something that you listen to all the way through on 1 listen. It’s an album that has songs for everyone. I’d rather have a long album like this that has something for everyone than a short album that might not have a single song that someone enjoys
I give you credit for doing this because I could never! Lol. I love long albums and movies. I've listened to this album top to bottom 4 times and so far I'm not skipping a thing. That may change a few months from now. Thanks for including Me + All Your Reasons...one of my favs!
Thank you for this Grady! Struggling to listen through the entire album
Love that you mentioned Money on Me, such an underrated amazing song!
I am almost speechless. You summed up how I feel about this record, although I would give it a solid 7. 👏 Your list 9.
Love this video! It's a lot of songs to digest and agreed with pretty much everything you selected except I would want that deluxe version you mentioned at the end so Keith Whitley makes it! Now I'm off to make a playlist of just these songs.
I love the concept for this video. I am old fashioned and still appreciate album track sequencing and taking the listener on a cohesive journey. Thats why I still love CDs for the car.
There are zero critics out there who are as thoughtful and creative as you are when they review projects. I was pretty bored with this album and was having trouble motivating myself to listen to the second half of it. You manage to make me interested in the artist you're discussing every time. Keep "doin what you do" Grady.
I also got Blink vibes from Whiskey Friends, specifically the guitar in the verses. Was disappointed it wasn’t the ‘alternative’ pick but glad you eventually included it.
Dude the intro sounds just like Mr Brightside
@@derekhayner7984 If the chords aren’t they same they’re very similar, for sure
blink fans know that’s very close to Adam’s song
I really enjoyed the video, this was a really cool interesting way to review such a long record.
I love "me to me" had to listen a couple times but now its one of my favorites!!
I’ve been waiting for this :)
This was a fun watch. I hope you do this with more super sized albums (because we all know they aint gettting any shorter)
I'm girding myself for the inevitable 58 song Bailey Zimmerman album.
Awesome video, please do this exercise with all the long albums in the future!
Love love the long album! Can listen too all the songs over and over again without betting fatigued of hearing the same song! It’s amazing
I love how Morgan has made enough music in each genre to make everyone happy. I can’t think of one song on this album I hate. I think my top 3 are “Man Made a Bar”, “Keith Whitley” and “Cowgirls”
This continues to be my favorite channel
Great review! I love 98 Braves and Everything I love.
Great 12 song selections. I agree there is just something about how Morgan flows that just works
“I’m always attacking Hardy’s eschatology” lol only from Grady!!! Great video:)
"Everything I love" is my favorite song from the album
I liked how you made up the perfect album on this one. Great video Grady.
Amazing selection of songs... I think I would have chosen the same first 11... you are always so good!
Great review, concise and informative.
I can’t believe that “I deserve a drink” didn’t even get mentioned. That song kinda snuck up on me and now I love it!
Excited to watch your video for the deluxe album that is coming
I swear Grady hates to hate sometimes. This is 36 songs of pure greatness, there's something for every mood, and every event. Sure 36 songs is a lot, but when Morgan throws nothing but bangers it's a gift from God and I'll take it.
Cook
Everything I Love might be my favorite Morgan song ever… makes me wish for more of those more traditional country type of backing music from him
Last Night was my personal favourite, absolutely love it!
I was waiting for your review before I listened to this record! Now I’m gonna go listen to your list! You do the best critiques🙌🎶🤎
"Wine into Water" is my favorite song on the album - fabulous creative lyrics that rhyme and flow and beautifully sung by Morgan Wallen!!
Love the video Grady. I think I would have done wrote the book for the religious song though. Top 3 for me on the album are whiskey friends, born with a beer in my hand and I deserve a drink. Keep up the great content!
Loved this review, Grady! I laughed and learned about the braves haha
I do not understand how Cowgirls is disliked, man, I love that song so much
shoutout grady for putting in all this work to these videos. I listen to these reviews before actually listening to the albums
I enjoy your reviews ....and have discovered so many amazing artists on your channel. However, the inevitable disagreement has finally surfaced. I love every single song on this album and cannot stop listening to it. Love everything about it. Did I say how much I love it?? LOL
Love this review, subbed
I’m a huge Morgan fan and I appreciate hearing a different perspective. Glad you liked Whiskey Friends because that is such a jam.
