Am I the only person who's always loved minivans for all the room they provide, and a lot of these new minivans have some crazy features built into them.
I like minivans too (and I am a guy!). We have two kids but we also love the space. We were on a road trip in our Sienna and were able to pick up a full-size antique armchair that someone threw away (for restoration purposes). And that was on top of everything else we had in the Sienna! Can't do this with an SUV unless it's a full sized SUV like the Escalade or Sequoia. And a minivan is cheaper to buy and run too.
Nope, I bought the Pacfica ( It was 41,000 bought worth the price) And we have 5 kids so its good for us, Plus there is some kind of IPad or TV at the back.
They are far more useful than a crossover SUV. I just wish there were ones with more offroad/anyroad capability. If the Subaru Ascent was configured van, I would probably buy one soon.
Best review yet. I'm a car guy and I actually sat through this whole entire video and learned about... a minivan? That takes some skills right there, great video.
I can't say I've watched a lot of minivan reviews (or any) but this one has definitely been the best. Jason, you've done the impossible and made a minivan review entertaining. Bravo. I can't believe I'm saying this but I hope to see more of these in the future!
Good review, first time viewing Engineering Explained reviews. But probably won't view any other/future EE reviews. Burping at the end of the video was pretty gross, immature--not a fan of juvenile humor.
Minivans are very versatile vehicles. I've used mine for everything from child transporter to truck like use with lumber, brick, furniture, and appliances. They're one of the most underrated and looked down types of transportation on the road.
I never watch minivan reviews because they are always dull, and personally i'm not interested in them, but strangely I couldn't stop watching this until it had finished. Well done.
@@ingram1225 I guess if your primarily using this to shuttle around people ok, but functionality wise as a dad it's nice to be able to utilize all that space or even if one day you wanted to use the van as like a service vehicle. It really limits the buyers for it as well when you go to sell it one day for the same reasons. Pacificas? I won't get started on them haha cheers
very cool van! I'm not a big fan of a centre console between the two front seats on vans and pickups though, I like having the space to walk through it or for stuff. and I don't know why people think vans are boring! You can take them for long road trips, sleep in them, haul lots of stuff, it's so practical.
For a minivan, this Kia Sedona aesthetically looks good, and seems to have pretty much everything you could ever need or want in a big people/stuff carrier. Thoroughly impressed. Also I love what you did with this video, so much fun to watch!
This is one of the best reviews I've watched on any vehicle. Period. Jason is not only one of the smartest car reviewers on UA-cam, but he also incorporates a perfect dosage of humor during his reviews. Most importantly, those two traits don't do any good if you can't convey information in a way for your viewers to understand what you're communicating. Jason conveys this information in a way for viewers to both learn and laugh. Extremely well done! (Note: I'm not a novice when it comes to watching UA-cam reviews on cars. In fact, I often wonder how I'm actually able to accomplish anything with how many reviews I watch.)
That minivan is nicer than some luxury cars haha. Still if you want something with tons of room that is nice and comfortable for long drives you really can't beat a minivan.
I bought a Kia Sedona LX 2017 it had 13,000 miles right now. It was really solid tank smooth to drive a minivan. Comfortable leg room and head room. Deep storage in the back. I highly recommend to everyone!
Despite them not being popular among the masses, I always grew up in a minivan, family and always love them for their space and practicality as well as their fuel. Efficiency is compared to trucks. I’m looking at a minivan for my next car
Bruh I went from a 2014 red and black Camaro SS with custom license plates reading "HOSTILE" to a Prius c & Prius v If we have a 3rd kid we will need a mini van and that's assuming we don't have twins again.
This review made me rethink minivans. As a mother of 3 (24-10yo),adventure seeker and an environmentalist, I have always stuck to a middle of the road cross over hybrids w a third seat option. Minivans are for sissies. Then I watched your review before test driving crossover pathfinders, four runners and standard SUV's (Tahoe, Suburban, explorer) comparing them in real time performance against my husband (Sedona vs Sorento, pathfinder vs quest, explorer and suburban vs crysler t&c and caravan) for longer term one week test drives. The minivan won everytime on fuel economy and features for $ spent! No matter the brand. Every single time! While we loved the four wheel drive in suv's we didn't notice enough of a lag time in their minivan counterparts to discount them in our mountainous terrain. Head room was key: I am under 5 foot tall and my "male unit" is unusually tall -'our 13 yo is 5'11". There was a minimum of head room in even the largest suv to account for tall passengers in the 3rd row. $ for $ a minivan offered the best features and fuel economy for every $ spent. We are banking the difference in mutual funds.
I initially skipped over this video when I first saw it in my feed but I'm glad that I came back to it. It's a good & entertaining video that is not easy to do in my opinion. I even laughed out loud a couple of times.
Mine`s a `93, & still rolling-on ! Have so much "history" with "Jeny," will have to wait till she finally gives up the ghost before a KIA SEDONA takes over her stall, er, garage.
I am about to get one of these myself...for ride-sharing of course. So I dont mind getting laughed at from the people outside of the van because they are walking. Vans and SUV's are more conformable to drive and more practical. This is why I am getting one.
I like the humor and jump cuts , reviews are getting better! Good job ! You should do a review of all the main mini vans ( Toyota, Honda and Nissan) I think mini vans and underrated and overlooked by most family's looking for a vehicle. Mini van have definitely stepped up their game these past few years
I have no interest in minivans, but I watched this entire review because of how it was delivered. This was awesome! I'd enjoy more of this style of video, regardless of what you're reviewing!
Thought this was going to be boring, but was very pleased that your humor started to run the show, you're pretty funny man. I'd enjoy more humor in the future! You also got a car guy to watch a mini van review if that says something
Just wait -- When the GIrlfriend become a wife and kids are running around, a minivan is far better than a cross over or SUV. And what about those people that have dogs --- lots of dogs. can't put them in a pickup truck -- they would all jump out. Nope, as a grandpa -- I had 1 station wagon and two minivans. They fit the bill for what they are needed for -- now as a single grandpa (ladies) I drive the grandpa version of the minivan, the Kia Soul. Great car -- again for its purpose -- I would not go stop light dragging against a kid in a Radio Flier wagon, but it does go from A to B. Next time, you need to test the off road capability of the mini van -- you know -- gravel parking lots. Great job, and for an engineer, rather humorous. I still want to meet the woman in the Miata's test drive...
@Engineering Explained : I've watched at least 10 minivan reviews, and yours is the best. Never thought I'd buy a minivan, but dieselgate happened and I'm selling my beloved TDI sportwagen 6-spd manual. 2 kids, 1 dog, and adding another dog, so it was time for something bigger. Minivan it was and Sedona SXL was the best fit.
With each review you get better and better, and this one just confirms that. Indeed goal achieved. You were able to make petrolheads watch a minivan review!! for god's sake! Congratulations. Now i'm just really looking forward for scooters reviews hahaha
so practicle, lots of room, great for travel. Seats fold into floor. super versatile. good gass milage. come in awd. usually loaded up. you sit higher off ground while driving. has truck feel. and very comfortable.. they are truly the best vehicle on the road. only wish they would make them more off road capable..
My wife owns a 2011 Kia Sorento and we love it. Looking to go bigger (3 grandkids) so a Sedona is on our list. Didn't think I'd be shopping for a mini van at my age (i'm 63) but I have a motorcycle & 2 Jeeps so why not?
like the sense of humor, and wow all those electrical and sensory features, just in case my most modern vehicle is a super duty f250 2006, so i dont have that many features.
I prefer vans to cars for lots of reasons. One, a kayak doesn't look ridiculous on top of a van and has room for gear. The van in the video is a good looking vehicle and functional.
two thumbs up! glad to see you are getting out of you comfort zone like this review, and like a lot of other people I watch the video from begin to end!
Wow..u speak fast! For non native english speaking people its tough to follow. But,thats for sure,u are doing great reviews and mini lessons with ur unique style.
+Armin Steinke You could try putting the captions on then setting the video speed to .5 by clicking on the gear on the bottom right. The captions aren't always correct, but it might be helpful.
I'm not a native speaker of course, but it actually very easy to follow for me. Just state YOU found it difficult to follow because obviously it doesn't go for everyone who isn't a native speaker.
Please make more reviews of boring cars like this. People who are interested in this kind of car will find the review useful while the rest of us will have a good laugh. Keep it up!
I'm only halfway done watching, wasn't expecting that... at all. You're not pleasant to look at and I don't know anything yet about how the seats work and not sure how I can fit 7 soccer kids ever. But I can already confirm... and say, this is indeed the Best Review of a Minivan ever. Thank you for not sucking.
Watched the rest, looks like two cabin seats in the middle... I count 7 people total. Soccor kids don't drive. Sorta hoping you'd a crashed into one of those tree's on the right, that would have covered it. Since that happened, I'm going to take back what I said and call it above average. Thanks for playing.
Drove this minivan, very smooth, quite powerful engine, very comfortable. Hit a bird at 80kmh windscreen doesnt crack. Sluggish braking. But i have 3 seats on both 2nd and 3rd row. Didnt have all those automated features guess this is the higher end version. I have sport shift thou.
This was an amazing review, i'm not at all interested in a minivan and i started watching it because it was funny and before i knew it i had finished the video. Props.
I enjoyed this, it's always cool to see less represented things get their due. I find it curious that people / reviewers go nuts over power they don't need or can't use most of the time and yet ignore the accouterments and features that make things great.
honestly being a surfer . this with an awd setup would be perfect . lots of room up top for a long board . fold down the rear seats and you got plenty of room to change in and out of your wetsuit on a cold winters day . and plenty of room to take a power nap after the swell has beaten you down.
+BaronVonPwn I second that. Considering just how many avid surfers there are scattered across the planet I think it''d be a good move for some auto maker or another to produce something specifically geared towards them. This Kia is already scoring good and if they gave it the awd, like you say, it'd be a very attractive option for sure. Not a camper - no - but still pretty damn good.
A bit of fun fact, minivans (and some full sized passenger vans) are actually seen as sort of a status symbol here in Asia/Southeast Asia. Many of the rich here sit in the backs of Kia Sedonas, Honda Odysseys, Toyota Alphards, and nowadays, higher trims of the new Toyota HiAce. We recognize how much better the space is onboard these vans compared to luxury sedans.
Great video, as for the Sedona. I like that it's the only minivan with a/c front seats but the 3rd row is the smallest of any minivans. Third row is narrow, short on headroom, and has really small windows high up. The low mounted DVD player can't be viewed from the 3rd row, impossible with seat 8 in. And then the 2nd row seats don't tumble down they squish forward, and the recliners don't even squish. It's a stylish minivan for owners who don't use the 3rd row and value features over cargo flexibility. I'd advise against renting a Sedona for 7 or 8 people.
I've always been "full-time 4wd landcruiser or bust" but considering the pita maintenance and fuel economy (& the lack of any icy mountain logging roads to commute over every day).. I think an awd Sienna would be nice these days.
2 tips on minivan reviews - You should show how hard/easy it is to move/fold the seats, and 2nd - how much "trunk space" is there when the back seats are stowed vs when they are up. Other than that it's a nice looking van.
I'll be honest and say that I only clicked on the video because of the title and kept watching because it wasn't in the standard, boring format like you suggested all others were, thereby living up the the title's claim. Nice work
my mother said years ago she would never own a minivan, so she didn't buy one. she bought a 2006 expedition with decent options, seating for 8 and all the room we could need. of course this also came with the fuel economy of about 12 city and 16 hwy which has now caused her to also buy a G6 and a CRV (we still own all 3) within the past 9 years. so maybe if she bought a minivan back in 2006 we wouldn't have all the cars we have.
i drive a 2005 Kia Sedona. Still running good. I don't have kids.. i bought it so i could drive my friends and i home from Eugene, OR to So Cal. We didn't want to take the train home haha I'm in the market for a new car though, possibly base 2016 WRX
This honestly seems like a fantastic choice for really long road trips with a lot of cargo. You wouldn't need a trailer and the guys in the back seat would be much more comfortable than in a sedan.
Am I the only person who's always loved minivans for all the room they provide, and a lot of these new minivans have some crazy features built into them.

Therobloxgamer I'd get a minivan like the pacifica or sedona for lots of space and luxury then engine swap it
They are far more useful than a crossover SUV. I just wish there were ones with more offroad/anyroad capability. If the Subaru Ascent was configured van, I would probably buy one soon.
I've owned several, one before I even had kids
I can't believe I just watched a full review on a minivan.

I've watch full reviews of minivans everyday
Lol

As a driver of a 1983 rx7 I can honestly say I'm impressed with all the tech you get in the van lol. I'd never own one but damn it looks comfy.
the 159 people that disliked this are disappointed honda odyssey owners.
It's a nice van but not being able to remove the 2nd row really holds this van back. It's not something you use all the time but comes in handy.
@@fortunatedad7695 one of the contributing reasons why I bought the Pacifica instead

Went shopping for a mini-van for a friend. Never intended to buy a KIA originally but was quite impressed with this Sedona after the test drive.
I always expect minivans to sound like straight 6 diesels for some reason. It's weird hearing a small bus with a high revving v6.

This Kia is already scoring good and if they gave it the awd, like you say, it'd be a very attractive option for sure. Not a camper - no - but still pretty damn good.
Makes sense! I believe Toyota is the only one offering AWD (with the Sienna).
Yeah I belive they are . And those are pretty nice as well.
But will it blend?
This was the BEST minivan review I have ever seen. Do more car review please.
I throughly enjoyed the video. Good research with some humor.
Best reviews I've seen in a while
2 tips on minivan reviews - You should show how hard/easy it is to move/fold the seats, and 2nd - how much "trunk space" is there when the back seats are stowed vs when they are up. Other than that it's a nice looking van.
I love how funny this channel has become lately!
Coolest minivan interview! love this channel
I love this car..I have been driving this for a month...
I love your enthusiasm Jason, this was a brilliant vid! You've come a long way in terms of quality content, keep it up!
That was your best review yet.
Glad my kids are getting bigger. No more minivans for me! I have made do with one though.
Supposidly, a very great handling minivan and fun to drive.
It would be perfect if it's a self-driving van. I love to ride in the 2nd row and relax.
Definitely one of your best. You told a story and it worked. Thanks!
i drive a 2005 Kia Sedona. Still running good. I don't have kids.. i bought it so i could drive my friends and i home from Eugene, OR to So Cal. We didn't want to take the train home haha I'm in the market for a new car though, possibly base 2016 WRX
Dang those back seats are sweet. Loved the review, your getting better and better every video!
This honestly seems like a fantastic choice for really long road trips with a lot of cargo. You wouldn't need a trailer and the guys in the back seat would be much more comfortable than in a sedan.
