Great review, I had a mildly disabled child and the minivan was awesome. We also had 2 Labradors. The van sucked up everything we needed to take on road trips with room to spare. They are the Swiss army knife of vehicles and so underappreciated in the marketplace.
i hated minivans but now i drive a 2008 kia sedona and its so fast and handles really well, all for 7000,, so much better than some overpriced too small SUV..., best thing for guys is to buy a solid used sports car and have ur other car be a sedona....keep ur man card and be a good dad....better than having 1 suv that you drive into the ground
I have a 2015 SX which is one trim down from this one. It's held up very nicely, no major issues. The rear hatch lock needed replaced which was done under warranty and that's about it.
Excellent review. Have 2015 V6 SXL and wouldn't change it for anything else. 4 grandkids with their bicycles, gear n toys on weekends is an envy of every SUV driver. Our family getaway to the farm or holidays are just another experience - we can even use it as a change room in remote areas. During the week it's the ultimate business jet, literally. Its unique crossover styling stands out in every parking lot. 4 years later I still get the never ending wow is this a Kia?
I bought a 2016 Sedona SX with the tech package. I cross shopped it against all the minivan competitors and the Kia came out on top for quality, interior design, and features for the price. A year later and I'm still happy. Very reliable and no major complaints. I guess I'm what you call a conquest sale from the Japanese. I used to be a Korean car hater. Not anymore.
spot on thank you. I would include that at hwy speeds the car's rear ended tends to rebound excessively when going over crappy bumps. never felt like it was out of control but differently something that distracted the driver and took away from the overall great driving experience.
I never understood the minivan stigma years ago my family sold our Tahoe because it wasn't practical enough and got an Odyssey. With a family or need to carry lots of things the minivan just seems to make so much more sense
You should do the review of the 2018 version It has the 8 speed auto now instead of the 6. The top trim SXL has always have electric power steering rack as opposed to the better hydraulic power steering rack on the lower trim. The interior comes in two different choice, I got the dash with the back top instead of the beige top. No you don't need rear entertainment, nowadays every kids have their own mobile device.
About 5 years ago I rented a Sienna on vacation and drove it for 2 weeks. I absolutely LOVED it. A couple of years later I rented a Sedona on vacation, and loved it almost as much as the Sienna. That's saying something, cause I loved that Sienna.

Love your videos dude the quality is just amazing , and your point of view is worth considering (I wanted my dad to buy an optima and your review helped me a lot to be precise your honesty ) now my dad takes me home in it ,and its a joy for me to know I helped my dad choosing a nice car for him.
Bought a '16 in '18 with only 17k miles on it and so far so good Only issue has been an oil pressure sensor changed under warranty. Great v6, loads of space...main issue brakes are trash at highway speeds, so swapped in a set of slotted and drilled rotors and good pads, and now that issue is gone.
Just wanted to provide an update on the Android Auto/Apple Car Play situation. They've just released a software update that adds it in, tied to a paid map update, and will be releasing it independent of the map update some time in July. Reason for being later than some other newer Hyundai/Kia platforms was that the timing of its redesign was *just* a few months too early to include it from the start, so they had to go in after the fact and re-engineer the head unit to work with its particular version. Basically good to go now, and we'll be able to get it for free on our Sedona next month!
Wish the underbody structure review could be included at the shop like other review videos. That is one thing fairly unique for a car review on your channel. It is not common for a car shopper to be able to see the underbody stuff like suspensions, exhaust, torsion beams, differentials before they make the decision for car purchase. The mechanic's opinion is also very helpful. The interior and driving experience can be replicated by visiting the dealer and it's nothing unique about them.
+teetee tee It would have been included however I was out of town doing Atom video when we had the van. Only had one day to shoot upon return and the shoppe was not possible. The negatives of being a solo act.
It makes a lot of sense. Sadly in parts of Canada, you kind of need something higher that won't get stuck in the snow, or at least has some kind of AWD.
If you get good winter/snow tires (not all season M+S, those aren't real snow tires), FWD should be good enough for most people, unless you are in a very remote area that doesn't get roads plowed at all, but you'd still need good tires even with AWD.
I actually like mini vans. Fantastic for my family of 4 on long road trips. If I want to have fun I get into my 2015 Tundra yes with an 8k TRD super charger.
I own a 2016 almost identical to the one in this vid. (Mine is an 8 passenger but otherwise the same) I don’t know what he’s on about with the dashboard reflection in the windshield. I never noticed it. I’ve had it for about 50k miles now with a set of triplets savaging it the whole time. My son broke some sensor thing on one of the sliding doors but that’s been the only issue we’ve had. Not the car’s fault. ($200 for the part and I installed it myself). They forgot to put a sunglasses holder in it. That’s pretty annoying but otherwise it’s supremely comfortable, spacious and well equipped. The air conditioner actually has a second compressor for the back seat passengers so it gets cold FAST when it’s hot out. The air conditioned seats are the best I’ve ever experienced too. Far surpassing my Infiniti Q70 I’m sorry to say. One horror story though: we took the kids to see their grandparents in New Jersey a few years ago so we had all 5 of us in it along with all the crap you inevitably have to bring with you. It all fit wonderfully, that’s worth saying. We stopped for gas (20 gallon tank with a cruising range of about 450 miles) on the Pennsylvania turnpike and getting back on is a very long fairly steep entrance ramp with very little room to merge once you get to the top. I had the gas pedal welded to the floor and the best it could manage was 42 mph. It was around 3 AM so there was no traffic but still it was a little nerve wracking.
I thoroughly enjoy every time I hear you say "shit" on your reviews. Older video, but great production, and I'm in the minivan-considering market, ditching my 3 row SUV.
Handles like a luxury automobile, very smooth, extremely quiet inside and carries 8 in comfort. But it can carry more cargo than a chevy suburban and is two feet shorter. the 2016 sedona was designed as the perfect luxury mpv for adults. let young family's have their Honda Odysseys and Toyota siennas. This "do everything" (and do it well) mpv was the best choice for this empty nester.
Robert Kindsfather Agreed. We just got a 2017 SXL with the “ Prestige Package “ ( recliners, 2nd sunroof & all the safety & comfort tech). It’s 1-2 classes above our 2008 Odyssey EX-L re interior decor, looks
Robert Kindsfather ...to continue: It’s equal or better re handling v-v our 2008 Odyssey. It’s more luxury car & less cargo van v-v Odyssey. As fellow empty nesters, we are very happy to have it in the stable!
MPVs and minivans refer to the same class of vehicles. They're interchangeable terms, like Soccer and football. Minivan is the American term and MPV is the international term. The Kia carnival, which is the international name for the Kia Sedona, is referred to in India for example as a "large MPV". Not gonna lie though, MPV sounds WAY cooler.
Absolutely the best auto reviews - I feel as though I am watching the Beatles at the Indra Club in Hamburg Remember us, the little people when you make it big. And, just one question - How do you get such a close shave?
Haha, I will always remember. I am playing Celine Dion while responding to this. I dont think big is something we will become. Shaving close is simple, shave in shower, Truefitt and Hill shaving cream, shave twice, once down, once up. Or are you talking how back hair?
I sat in one at the dealership waiting for my sorento getting service. I like all the features it has. Even both sunroofs open which was cool. To bad it doesn't have all wheel drive. Only the sienna offers that. Why did all minivans that use to offer that do away with that option?
Man it doesn't matter if its a McLaren or a Kia. Love your no nonsense reviews and I'm glad you are becoming a full fletched auto journalist, hope you can make a decent living out of this :) if you're not already doing it . Good luck and keep them coming!!! Would of laugh my ass of listening to Turboski view on this , but different review.
This is not a revenue maker it's mostly for the sake of enjoying the process of making the videos and the cars. Maybe eventually. Thanks for posting we will continue to try and do better and get turbowski into some real cars he hates!
savagegeese Nah. Ya do good shyt! Lots of folks say so. Heck, I'm a single childless misogynist and you darned near make me want to own this minivan, so either you are good or i'm a very confused man-child.
In my sedona 2016 I have only 2 problems - moistiture in taillights and pressure oil sensor, the rest is ok. I love my sedona. Vehicle is using in Europe (import from USA)
All the SUVs I test drove ride uncomfortably and handle very bulky. The Sienna, drove and handled well. I still need to try the Sedona and Odyssey. Price wise, the Sienna and probably the Odyssey are going to be more expensive than the Sedona.
No one has commented yet on the sign - perfectly placed I might add - at the end of the video. After the burn barrel in the Corolla video , I am looking for. That stuff Well done
I have more of a general question. When you review cars from the press fleet, is there any pressure, unspoken or otherwise, from the manufacturer to say good things and minimize your criticism of said car or risk being put on some press black list?
+Gerald G The short answer is there is an unspoken understanding that you carefully select content, wording etc. I plan on doing a video about this explaining the system. But there is a very fine line and yes you can get black listed.
@savagegeese. As a UA-camr, is the minivan the perfect production car? Part of me wants to get a ford ranger. But this holds more cargo while carrying 4 people. You can even sleep in the back pretty easily. My friend got a 4x4 sienna and I'm kinda in love with it.
One of the biggest flaws, especially in modern minivans is perforated leather instead of solid. I get that without it you couldn't have cooled seats, but damn it's a hell of a lot harder to clean and maintain which is a big deal if you care about your vehicle but also have kids to transport. They should at least make the back seats solid leather for this reason. Thankfully there are still a couple brands that offer solid quality leather as an option.
Spaz attacks will become common place in the summer heat no worries. You should see the road rage ones that get cut from videos. (Real Spazz attacks) These shiny plastic bits I love showing how gross they get, the one from the Abarth video was just wiped 20 minutes before and still looks like dandruff city.
I have definitely had the stigma about Minivans for years for the same reason most do.. it is the stereotypical "soccer mom" vehicle.. Literally one of the most "uncool" things to drive.. Practical.. yes.. cool.. no.. Yet, though Id love to be behind the wheel of a 6.4L SRT Charger.. A minivan is what I am looking for because of my photography business that is slowly accumulating more and more gear.. and I am going to start driving for Uber soon and need to qualify for UBERXL which pays more per trip. Also... I am now in my late 30's and I really don't give a shit what anyone thinks of what I drive. If it helps me do my job and make me more money.. I will buy the car I want as a second car from the money the van makes me. Great Review BTW. I Really do like this and the Kia Sorento. I have also considered the Dodge Caravan because of the fully stowaway seats.. Other considerations included the Toyota SIenna.
good luck, man. if you'd allow me to pass an advice, I'd say skip the dodge/chrysler minivans due to unreliability. I mean you don't put your profit out uber and photography on repairs. Odyssey, Sienna, and Sedona are much better.
Another well done video. I hope you were able to take part in the new Mazda CX-9 ride and drive. You and Dave Coleman (Engineer from Mazda) share a similar talent in explaining technical details in a clear and competent way. When will the posting of content begin on Amazon and will you use Patreon to partially offset the cost of your production time / labor? Once again... Thanks.
Amazon uploads are live in US. We should have the CX-9 in July, maybe sooner. I hope to talk with Dave about the car before we do the video. Thanks, I think from dealing with tech stuff for so long having to explain it in a practical way is easier. Dave seems better at it but approach is close. Personally I HATE asking for donations or pledges. I'd think it would turn people off but may consider it because some of these cars we want to review will require rental or travel.
Consider Patreon for a portion of the content you already generate as part of your primary content. You're not asking for donations with Patreon. You are 'offering' extended content for those who want to see it. Since most of you content is long format, you already produce content (outtakes, special events, cutting floor segments, etc.) that could be made available for those who want to be an Patreon subscriber and support your work and site vision. Those trips to downtown Chicago for those glamour shots clearly cost money and time (former Chicago resident). Continued success.
love it it looks cool and has the command the road imperial style thing, it looks super comfy like a lazy boy on wheels, but wth an aggressive style and some bling, chrysler 300 c on steroids!!!
solid review, i bought a $7000 2008 sedona to compliment my recent purchase of a CPO porsche 911. I used to hate minivans but this sedona as ugly as it is, has been great for my family , its so fast, for something so big, in a few years i'd like to save up for the 2015 model with the updated exterior and interior. SUV's are just dumb unless you are off roading...or you want high performance like a cayenne turbo or x5m. sedona fan!!
+savagegeese yes, actually bmw video's sound is much clearer and higher. if you could still raise the volume slightly more in your next vidoes, it would be great :)
This is the only channel where I watch car reviews with cars that are completely irrelevant to my interest but in the end, I end up wanting them. Really great videos. By any chance, will you be reviewing the new Civic? I've looked all over UA-cam and I have yet to see a good enough review of it.
I am lulled into a state of complacency. I feel at one with the world. You didn't speak of the the seats, (Unless I missed it because I tend to not pay attention and I retain little. A misspent youth.) how comfortable are the driver and passenger seats? The Mrs. is talking about making driving trips again. That might be a fine idea however we have two 90# dogs. Do the middle seats fold flat? (If they do I don't want to know.) I would never drive it but to be chauffeured in comfort with two drugged dogs in the back quick asleep, ... I'd be fine. Probably do an eight-ball share some of that doggy downer with a thermos filled with JD & Coke. I'd be fine. Just fine. Maybe add a Stephen King novel on audio, ... I'm already there. Ashville, here we come. I have to go and lie down for a while. Good review. Mmmm, I love my thermos.
I saw one in real life. It is very large. We have a 2001 MPV, old, stinky but runs like a champ. (I'm thinking about having the entire floor, ceiling replaced, everything but the seats.) The Mrs. might be interested in a new vehicle but, not as large as the Kia. What ever happened to the mini-van? The Kia is very attractive and the review the gooses made make it look tempting but it is just too big. Alright, ... do the middle seats fold flat?
I feel just like that, right now we have an old Sharan and want to replace it, but current "minivans" are really huge, overkill for my small family. I don't want to pay for that much car or gas or drive a behemot like that around. If my family were bigger yes. I think the design is great and all but smaller, real minivans were a thing and it's a pity that the stigma made them die. Currently looking at a Sorento as the closest sensible alternative to a true "mini" van.
+savagegeese Shucks, now we'll never know the alignment adjustability, aluminium usage, and whether the rear is independently sprung or a dead axle with a Watts link. Also, is it a spin-on or cartridge “filtre”?
Look on the sale ads..you will see many still on the road with over 300K miles..the models with the 3.8 engine weregreat..the new 3.6 Pentastar is not doing too hot...at least the 2011-2015 early years of that engine had lifter issues..
Chrysler Town And Country/Dodge Caravans with the StowNGo seating have all the others beat! Nobody else has a good middle row seat storage set up..You either have to remove and store in garage or slide forward which does not give you that much more space really..only Dodge/Chrysler has the perfect middle seat solution..then when the seats are up you can use the hidden storage! The rear seats don't have the one handle stow that the Kia and Sienna have but they offer the Power folding option which more than makes up for it..The Kia does have more gadgets such as the rear liftgate being touch-free, cooled seats and just a better dash design in my opinion..Hard choice to make..Oh and I can't believe you used the word Classy and Kia in a sentence! Nothing classy about a Kia!! When you say Kia most car fans think of an old Sephia!
I'm sold and i'm a single with no kids
Right. I don't have kids, but my next pickup truck will probably be a minivan.
Just turned 100K on my '06 Sedona....so far, one axle boot replace and just now, the alternator. Wonderful van!
100K is nothing. I put that on every 3 years
Great review, I had a mildly disabled child and the minivan was awesome. We also had 2 Labradors. The van sucked up everything we needed to take on road trips with room to spare. They are the Swiss army knife of vehicles and so underappreciated in the marketplace.

If you want a man card, you need a truck, not a sports car.

Just got ourselves a 2016 EX. WAY more spacious than most SUVs on the road and the sliding doors make it much easier to fit in our garage.
Great review! Your videos are so much higher-quality than other channels
I agree, really appreciate your honest opinion
Thanks appreciate it.
You should do the review of the 2018 version
It has the 8 speed auto now instead of the 6.
The top trim SXL has always have electric power steering rack as opposed to the better hydraulic power steering rack on the lower trim.
The interior comes in two different choice, I got the dash with the back top instead of the beige top.
No you don't need rear entertainment, nowadays every kids have their own mobile device.

Thinking of considering one for the practical reasons. Plus you can get a good deal on a used 2015 model for under 16k!
I love the spaz attacks!
One area to improve would be to clean off the hair and dandruff before doing interior on that damn shiny black plastic.
Odyssey, Sienna, and Sedona are much better.
don't want to*
out of*
Properly driven minivan. There's a minivan or two I like, this one is a-okay.
Kevin Spacey! Took me a dozen videos to put my finger on it...
Love your style, keep it up!
thekiwicanuck This comment did not age well.
Did you read about the brakes lasting 15,000 ? Spend 40k and put money into brakes every 20k.
Some day the so darn practical will be recognized as the new super cool.
Continued success.
great video.... awesome job on all the uploads recently
Your videos are amazing if possible can you do a review of the Toyota Sienna
Another well put together review. Keep up the great content!
Thanks.
2nd row seats come out ? That's a major issue for cargo space ...
Excellent review. Can you please do the Chrysler Pacifica. Thanks!
+drchulo76 coming soon
Crumb crushers lol, please keep the whit coming thanks.
Can't believe I watche this, but good work. How do the acceleration and driving dynamics compare to a mazda cx-5?
Its far more comfortable and seemingly more solid but its heavy, and you cant throw it around. You feel the weight of it when you start driving hard.
hi SavageGeese, would you consider reviewing Tesla Model S or X? If so, I would love to watch your take on them.
When I get one I will gladly do a video on it.
thank you!
pls do the review for 2016 Kia Cerato thanks
Quick question what is your budget for speeding tickets?
love it it looks cool and has the command the road imperial style thing, it looks super comfy like a lazy boy on wheels, but wth an aggressive style and some bling, chrysler 300 c on steroids!!!
a brand that combined designs of a lot of brands.
solid review, i bought a $7000 2008 sedona to compliment my recent purchase of a CPO porsche 911.
+Gerry Khurl I think most real car people understand just how good minivan just how good minivans are for usability. Obviously you're one of them.
i like your reviews, but please try to raise the volume while recording.
Can you see if it is any better in the BMW review? Made some changes to audio balance.
+savagegeese yes, actually bmw video's sound is much clearer and higher. if you could still raise the volume slightly more in your next vidoes, it would be great :)
mini vans dont get enough credit. they are the real work horses
Yes they are some of the most practical machines.
This is the only channel where I watch car reviews with cars that are completely irrelevant to my interest but in the end, I end up wanting them. Really great videos.
By any chance, will you be reviewing the new Civic? I've looked all over UA-cam and I have yet to see a good enough review of it.
Any idea if the second row seats are removable? I want to camperize one of these.
Get a lower trim
@@kanamekuran23 OK. Thank you.
eyyyyy between the buried and me...nice ;) and awesome review!
Need Matt Farah to do a 'one lap of the Sedona' @4:47 .
Sienna oddysey and pacifica those are the only ones out there . I want to choose the sienna and oddysey but they are dated they need a redesign.
This was your quick review?
These band have minor problem but they're very reliable
you should sell some of your tag lines to kia
Would you choose Kia Sedona or Honda Odyssey?
My 2019 Odyssey already has transmission issue at 17k miles brand new car ...
love it reminds me of a luxury car/suv pretty cool - awesome!!!! like a chrysler 300 c on steroids!!
EYY Btbam and Katatonia!
will you do the new cx-9 soon?
+tunkor yes in about 60 days
+tunkor yes in about 60 days
I thought the front seats seat were great in it.
Currently looking at a Sorento as the closest sensible alternative to a true "mini" van.
second row can fold flat as well?
No you cant
Where'd you get your t-shirt?
+kheetar Red Bubble if I remember correctly.
what color is this?
Is the title a Tim and Eric reference?
+ilovecats748 Good Eye!
+ilovecats748 Good Eye!
Is it me or this minivan look sexy? No serious. I would actually buy this.
Check out the 2021 Kia Sedona, it's BEAUTIFUL.
love the shirt man.
Burger King Whopper kills Whopper Dog?
So same as usual minus the mechanical overview?
+Alexandre Potvin Mostly yes.
+savagegeese Shucks, now we'll never know the alignment adjustability, aluminium usage, and whether the rear is independently sprung or a dead axle with a Watts link. Also, is it a spin-on or cartridge “filtre”?
Or if the tires were Bridgestone Dullers...and how many goddam screws you have to remove to take off the underbody shroud to access the oil filtre...
Definitely need a watts link bell crank!
whats with the gauge cluster crap?
Gotta have 20 menus to change all your options.
lol minivan????? That's a 50 people bus here in Europe...
+Tiago Ruivo Funny how differerent mind sets are. I am sure plenty would say its not big enough here.
Oversize culture in America.. It's a pity!!
Mark is fantastic
Dodge caravans never had reliability lol
Don't ever post that on www.chryslerminivan.net (min van fan club) or you will be killed.
When you say Kia most car fans think of an old Sephia!
where is Turbosky ??
+KJV We ran out of time to shoot shoppe, she he got out of doing this one.
