Oh boy did I ever enjoy that! Always loved Stan Hansen. Really didn't know that his real life personality was so laid back, he seems just like just a good ole boy/man. The interview was well done, it was just like sitting there listening to him tell his story. The questions were posed in a way that made the flow of the conversation so smooth and easy, not at all like Stan wrestled.
I do remember watching Stan with Gordon Solie when he was in working in Georgia. I feel really lucky to have gotten to have seen him 3 times every Saturday afternoon. He'd play on a Macon channel, then Columbus and finally back to another Macon channel. Oh, it was priceless.
If you happen to see him again, tell him that there are folks back in Georgia that still remember and love him.
    Great post.

In every interview Hansen does, he's always polite, laid-back, very soft-spoken, a far cry from his ring persona from many years ago. Never badmouths anyone; he never has, AFAIK. In the ring, he was a wild man, hitting anything and everything he could, but he always gave his all. He brought the heat and he brought in the customers. He was great for the business, and the business was great to him, by all accounts.
    A first-rate interview.

If you have ever lived overseas as I have for 30 years in 6 countries from Micronesia-Korea-Saudi Arabia-Taiwan-Melaysia and China you are going to love Stan s book "The Last Outlaw" as I have....I have carried it with me all over the World and have read it 8-10 times and always learn something new from it....Its one of the best books around for learning-adjusting to other cultures as he did in Japan as I did in the 80 s 90 s 2000 s and 2010 s while working and living in South Korea from Seoul down to Chon-Ju and Koachang back to Pyeongtaek University for 15 years I got to see Korea grow-development both in good and not so good ways....Just like Stan s book....You will read about how Japan did the same before your eyes as you read his book+ I loved this Interview and sure love watching him wrestling over the years 1st. being with Tommy Rich in Atlanta and back in the 90s from Taiwan I could watch cable TV from Japan were I could watch all those great wrestlers from Andre-The Funks-Baba and so...Thanks Stan for the memories from one devoted fan....Sincerely-Frank Burkett

I didn't watch him much as a kid but I remember him vaguely in AWA and NWA. What a class act and great ambassador to the business. It's sad for me to see some old timers still wrestle, but this guy clearly saved his money and made some good life decisions. Now he doesn't have to work a day in his life if he doesn't want to. That is my goal. Where I want to be at the point where if I go to work , it's because I want to , not have to. Anyway, great shoot.

Thank you Hannibal, for this important interview and for posting . Most shoot interviews bad mouth everyone , it's refreshing to hear Stan Hansen respect the business and fellow wrestlers . There will never be another Stan Hansen , his book The Last Outlaw further details his career. Stan's goal was to present the most realistic fight possible and give the fans their moneys worth . It would be difficult to explain to today's wrestling fan, how brutal a legendary monster heel Stan Hansen was .

Thanks so much for posting the full shoot Hannibal......There is no wrestling content I could want to watch more than this interview with Stan.....Other than his matches of course, as he is my favorite wrestler ever....And imo the best in ring performer ever......Man, when I think about it......The AWA, WWE, WCW, etc. were all so moronic not to use him correctly....When people ask Ole Anderson who drew money for him, always the first and usually only name he brings up is Stan Hansen.....And when Ole actually gives somebody credit, you KNOW they were good....Stan is right when he says he would have made the AWA big money with the belt.....Because wherever he went, in time, people went crazy for him......But in my opinion only the Japanese really knew how to use him.....Stan was, again imo, too good for wrestling in the States......Too real, and too honorable......Just a first class guy and to me the best there ever was if you watch his matches from Japan '81-'94 particularly.......Just brutal, real, and magic stuff.......Good luck with your in ring career too man.......Myself and a lot of others are rooting for your success....Thanks again for the great work you do.......

A true gentleman outside the ring. And your WORST nightmare inside of it...!!! If you don't like your opponent stiff and potatoing you. And busting you open the hard way. Then by all means don't wrestle against this man.

My favorite shoot. Just watched it for the third time. I always notice though that he avoids talking about Brody's death. I'm guessing he told the interviewer beforehand that he wouldn't talk about it.

That is correct he said he wouldn't talk about that and to please not ask him about it but he was part of a Bruiser Brody discussion panel we recorded this year in Iowa: ua-cam.com/video/PPVM3v5C_ho/v-deo.html

Would’ve loved to see Hulk Hogan vs Stan Hansen as main event of Mania 2 rather than Bundy.

Funny thing was, he was right about one thing, when it came to autographs, the "bad guys" were actually the "good guys" but it was reverse with most of the "good guys".

It was 1990 just after he became US Champ...Stan was in a 6 man tag in my hometown. I recall Sid was one of his partners and they were vs Luger and a couple others. I was sitting about 3rd to 5th row and I noticed Stan was looking off at one point. Sid checked on him and he told Sid "I swallows my tobacco". I remember thinking that would do it lol. Great guy and performer.

I love the way he pronounces thee-a-ter. I have always pronounced it that way too.
I love the way he refused to really bad mouth anyone in this video.
I love the way he refused to change his schtick for ANY promotion.
He is my all time favorite wrestler, followed closely by Bruiser Brody. Their unapologetic brutality was so much fun to watch.
Back in the late 80s/early 90s he was on a WCW I think) card in Phoenix, Arizona, where I lived. The wrasslers were staying in a hotel across the street from the print shop I worked in. One of the WCW stooges came in and had us do some printing in preparation for the show. We talked some wrestling and he asked me if I wanted to meet any wrestler in particular. I told him I would love to meet Stan Hansen . He said he would have Stan come into my shop later that day. As the stooge was leaving i said, "Wait a minute, will he be in character or his real self?" He said. "Stan ONLY comes out in public in character." I thanked for the offer but said i couldn't have Stan come in the (I wasn't even the owner) spitting chew, whapping my counter with the bell, and scaring the shit out of my non-wrestling-lover customers. Sigh, it would have been one of the coolest moments in my life to have met him.

re: Hansen's famously lacking eyesight - Jim Cornette and Austin Idol were talking about Idol's run with Hansen in Memphis... Hansen was just wearing Idol out and he was telling Hansen, "look, I don't make my money in Japan like you do, I am here for the long term, you gotta lighten up." And Corny says "yeah, and Hansen's as blind as a bat so when one of those lariats gets going, it doesn't stop until it hits something!" LOL
