I was also reaised to decent and to not.judge based on color but based on charater and actions, but the one thing that has alwas stuck to me more than can remember is my basic training drill sargent the man was 7ft 2 and yes he was a black man but as I was raised I didnt see that but when that man stood up and stated that his platoon would be color blind for the next 8 weeks that his platoon would see the world the way he saw it land, signs, buildings, what so ever so ever would be what god made it or man made it but when his eys meaning his and his platoons eyes look upon another human being there was no such thing as color. For all those in low income families, it's hard, but there is better to come if you push forwards with strength and determination. I know I did it, when the system and doctors told me I'd never work again, I got angry and started fighting to prove them wrong. I now work full time in a very physically challenging job and I'm going to be training to start my own business. You have to have faith in yourself before you can expect anybody else too.

My dad got his legs paralyzed due to a spinal injury while he was deployed in desert storm and he started gaining feeling in his toes a few years back and now he has went from having a brace for his legs so he could walk to having full use of his legs. He dont quite got feeling back but he is doing better
They have kids messed up today before they ever get out of school with this stuff. Instead of teaching kids to work like they used to they teach prejudice, self-pity,and wanting to take from others!

I was abused as a child by a close family member...when that person was dying my family needed help taking care of him, as a care giver they called me. I went and help with his daily care, friends couldn't understand why I would help him. 1st off I didn't do it for him, I did it for the rest of my family. 2nd I took that opportunity to let him know he never broken me, I am who I am despite him. He knew exactly what I thought of him before he dies even though I made sure he had the best care i could give him. Talking about how no one can control your mind brought those memories back...NEVER let anyone control who you are inside. I would never give him the power to dictate how my life went. I have a healthy loving family despite what he did.

You don't just react emotionally, you actually try and think about what's being said and what it means. I dig it, a lot. Also, you talking about your mom and how you now pay for everything yourself. I get it, my parents were on government assistance for most of my life. I hated it, and it's why I'm now 100% against the welfare state. It did too much damage to my family. I was able to push through it, but I have a sibling who wasn't. They'll be on government assistance their whole life because they just don't/can't know any better. It breaks my heart. Life is hard, but that's what makes it worthwhile. It's easy getting a check from the government but man it just doesn't feel good. Buying a pair of Jordan's (or, in my case, saving for 5 years and buying my first boat) .. that shit feels *good*. It's not easy. It sucks. I drove a truck as a company driver for 9 years. Im white. I decided to start my own trucking company after a friend of mine who is black convinced me to start it. I've always known not to judge a person by their skin color, clothing, religion, or anything of the sort. The only thing I judge a person for is their actions, personality, and attitude... the true things that matter... and I hope that everyone can learn one day to think this way. I was always raised this way and all of my family that I live with think the way I do... and I'm white and I don't want people to be racist, I wish people could get past our differences in body, and use their brains, and notice that we should look at how much more we have in common rather than hate them for something they can't even control. Get past the past and look to the future.

This reaction right here is why I love you, man. I don't always agree with you, but you're a smart dude and very insightful. You don't just react emotionally, you actually try and think about what's being said and what it means. I dig it, a lot. Also, you talking about your mom and how you now pay for everything yourself. I get it, my parents were on government assistance for most of my life. I hated it, and it's why I'm now 100% against the welfare state. It did too much damage to my family. I was able to push through it, but I have a sibling who wasn't. They'll be on government assistance their whole life because they just don't/can't know any better. It breaks my heart.
Life is hard, but that's what makes it worthwhile. It's easy getting a check from the government but man it just doesn't feel good. Buying a pair of Jordan's (or, in my case, saving for 5 years and buying my first boat) .. that shit feels *good*. It's not easy. It sucks. It takes a long time, it's a lot of long hours, etc. But, again, it just feels *good*. And it's that feeling that is the ultimate reward, not the thing you bought. We've lost that, I'm afraid :/
