In case your pipes are brass plated and not solid brass, do not use sand paper. A fine steel wool should work fine. You don't want to remove the layer of brass plating.

People are so rude... Yes there are other ways, yes salt and household vinegar, but Jenna Sue’s way works too, no need to snipe at her. Thank you Jenna Sue, your cottage looks fun!

Great job, Jenna. Love the antique yet contemporary aged patina of the brass. Cheers, Ardith

Jenna Sue. If you haven't already done so, please invest in a proper half mask respirator and specific filters for particulate and/or chemicals related to finishing/refinishing. Educate yourself about dealing with old building materials that often contain lead or asbestos. Thanks so much for your content :)

Dont waste your money - brass stripper is merely acetone and brass ager = use neat vinegar with 3 or 4 teaspoons of salt

Will vinegar remove the clear coat?

Did you watch? She didn’t strip/clean the brass. It was clear coated and she removed it.

Vinegar and salt will age it fast or Miracle Grow both give it different patinas.

It's ironic how tastes change. My grandmother would want to change out her old patina-ed fixtures with brand new shiny brass or chrome plated stuff.

Very nice. I’m getting ready to install a claw foot tub in my house. Suddenly I see all of that brass and I’m in a nightmare from my army days. Scrubbing Brass! 😱😩

you can wrap whatever you're trying to strip in plastic to keep the paint stripper from evaporating as quickly as it does.

She had to remove the lacquer I assume. There are less expensive ways to do that, by the way.
The change is virtually instantaneous, but there are more environmentally friendly and less expensive ways to do this for people who don’t have the attention span and patience of a gnat.

I’m don’t really understand current trends. Why are people aging brass instead of shining it? I like shiny brass.

This video is awesome. I just need to find an affordable source of real brass hardware. Ironically most fixtures are brass underneath various platings but I can never tell if it will be easy to get it off.

Did you keep the brass mirror that was hanging above the sink? That's a beautiful piece but maybe not the cottage style you're looking for.

Been trying to figure out either brass or brushed nickel for doorknobs and hinges
I have no idea whats in fashion
    Anyone out there for help

Brushed nickel is appeals to the most people. Aged brass, not polished, is coming back in style but some don't like it. Probably because they are too familiar with getting rid of their brass stuff for silver.

don't follow trends like a sheep. choose what looks right for you and match with your existing decor. i got great results using second hand materials. i recently used black nickel handles for my kitchen cupboards on african teak doors, because they were the cheapest at the hardware store. i can now see they were a much better option than the brushed nickel or stainless steel look door handles.

I used brushed nickel also for pulls and light fixtures
      Slowly changing things

Wow amazing. Id never guess that there are products online for pretty much anything and all u have to do is read the instructions. The title should be not how to do but how I do it. And thats no big help here.if u want something cheaper and faster then dillute muriatic acid with water add hydrogen peroxide and actually watch the process taking place right in front of you, thus controling exact amount of patina you're aming for.

    • @robprocctvcameras8733

      Mahalie Stackpole
      Try some older hardware stores
Nyc has some old hardware stores that have stuff like that but not cheap
      Try some architecture salvage yards
They might have or be able to steer u in a direction

You should really be wearing a dust mask at minimum when sanding that old furniture. Even bare wood is bad but the chemicals in the old laquers, varnish, and paints they used to use? Yikes!
