    Thanks for the helpful video. I've head of using ammonia this way, but never knew you could use vinegar. Vinegar would be preferable because the fumes aren't toxic and it doesn't break down like ammonia. One tip -- don't leave vinegar in a stainless steel pan between uses. Depending on the quality of the steel, the pan may develop pinprick holes and leak, even if the pan is never heated. Instead, store the vinegar in a glass jar.

      @@SofieldLeather I've been purchasing stuff for our station & make the ping pong table a little work station late at night. We've been trying to figure out how to treat the leather. We're trying to do some stamps with paint inlay, but are concerned about treating the leather since some of it will be outside our gear. Right now I've got flebing satin sheen & the Tandy aussie leather treatment, but haven't put it to the heat test yet!

      Andrew Jordan nice. That Aussie stuff is good. I use to use it. Now I make my own stuff. Acrylic resolyn is the best for protection but I don’t like the way it makes the leather feel. It’s inevitable given the work we do. Paint will get ruined. But that looks cool too. 🤣👊🏼👊🏼

      You have to search for a liquid solution for darkening/aging brass. There's a few options from Sculpt Nouveau or similar brands and you have to aply it with a brush and sanding smoothly with extra fine steelwhool (you may repeat the process untill you're satisfied with the patina). Finaly aply a proper wax for metal protection.

    Does it make a difference what metals your pots are made out of? I don't have a steamer pot. Will it still work if I use a colander over a pot with a lid on? (that's how I steam my veggies) Also, does it leave marks the metal of your pots?

    • @SofieldLeather

      Don’t know about the material. I use a cheap pot from Walmart. They definitely will mark up and deteriorate. I already need a new one. Thanks for watching.

      @@SofieldLeather Thanks, I have an Italian military shirt that came with what looked like corroded buckles. There was brass underneath but a magnet sticks to it so I'm assuming it's plated and that was a antique coating that had some spots that corroded through to the base metal. Steel wool brought back most of the brass but the more I thought about it the more I think it was antiqued because the buttons have a half and half look. Not solid Brass look not fully antiqued.

    • @SofieldLeather
      @SofieldLeather  5 місяців тому

      Right on. When I antiqued the brass plated buckles, they came out more tarnished and blackish than antiqued. Didn’t look bad but not what I was looking for.
