Considering how 1 can decimate a beehive its a shock after the worlds governments labeled these hornets extinctionable that i see too many still alive. Like the bees arent important to our lives. The bees go extinct so do we. Eventually.
Hornets are very fierce, strong, and always aggressive. This was expected outcome, but Mantis with this size advantage has that small chance to land the perfect grip.
It only "can go both ways" in captivity. In the natural wild habitat, that praying Mantis is getting owned, unless it's a much larger female Mantis. And even then, she'll have to grab an unsuspecting Japanese Giant Hornet and deliver fatal blows directly to her head to have a chance. These hornets can tangle with the legit bad asses of the insect world.
The Giant Japanese Hornet is a hive minded creature. She's not going to perform the same in captivity as she would in her natural habitat. Had these two met within the wild, the Praying Mantis would have been chewed up into sections of paste and taken back to the hive. But in an artificial containment, the hornet is simply thinking about how to get back to her hive.
