35' flybridge. Starboard thrust brng & handrail. Part 6

  • I head back down to the boat again to remove the starboard thrust bearing so I can strip it down, clean it, and fit new seals and bearings.
    I also remove the bimini from the flybridge so I can take the broken handrail off, bring it back to the workshop and weld it back into one piece.
    Also, we have a look at some other random (yet, still related) things that I've recently purchased.

    I like that you gave credit to the previous owner for what he was able to accomplish instead of criticizing to hard, we all have to work with what we have. We all know it but videos like this point out the dozens of small repairs that have to be made and not just the big ones which tend to be more interesting. As they say, slow and steady wins the race.

      Thanks Geoffrey. I don't think anybody wins when you criticize other peoples work. Especially on a public forum! Besides, these are all things that are easy and economical to improve on. So, no need to make a fuss over it. Well, that's my two cents worth, anyway!!

    No, Pete, you're pointing out things that need be rectified, just because you're on a budget, doesn't mean you do it wrong!
    I was taughtb"do it once, do it right"
    I'm following you because I am inconfident in my abilities... and so far all you say, aligns with my ideas... good on ya!

    😅I can hardly wait till you are able to repair the trailer and bring it home. Your approach to getting the major systems back into good repair and ready to go back in service is remarkable. At the rate you are progressing it will be no time till you will need to put it into the water for a shake down run to proof test all the mechanical systems are good to go. Keep banging out videos and we will keep on watching. I admire your attitude toward the previous owners work as not everyone has your skill set or equipment to do these jobs up to what you can accomplish. The reels will make an interesting video so no matter how you move from job to job on this rebuild I will enjoy all of your videos.

      Thanks Doug! I'm very happy to hear that you're enjoying these vid's!! A few weeks ago I looked into the logistics of getting her home to work on and found that it's just too difficult. The boat is too high and too wide. Also, the trailer has no brakes and looks like it may break in half if I hit a good bump. For the short term, I'm going to 'patch up' the trailer that's under it while I build something new. I'll try to address this in the next video. Thanks for watching.

    Hello Pete. Crazy American here. I can’t help but notice “as I’m not familiar with your currency” seems things are a bit more expensive there down under. Love watching your rebuilds. Keep it up, can’t wait to see you splash her for the first time.

    • @pete-mate3524
      @pete-mate3524  5 днів тому +1

      Yeah, I've also noticed that things in the States are generally a lot cheaper than here. But I think your dollar is worth a lot more, so it kinda evens out a bit?? I was a bit nervous about leaving that 'crazy Americans' comment in. But thankfully, it was received in the light hearted way it was intended. Thank you for your comment!! :-)

    Hi Pete
    I’m a new supporter, I joined when I saw your boat. I think you’ve picked up the boat watchers .
    I like the way you go about things. I love my 6mtr Whittley. I live on the mid north coast of NSW and back onto the Myall lakes. I have just retired from building. I spend a lot of time camping on the boat .
    Thanks for the content.
    Stay well.
    Graham

    What a score with the Ocean city and the 10/0 Senator. Ive got both and the 10/0 is a great reel. Can fit bigger handles to the 10/0. Can swap to Carbontex drag washers too. Hard to find 10/0's now. I always snap them the 12/0, 14/0's up too. Just need the 16/0 to pop up now.

    Hey mate I don’t know if I’m on the right track or not but I know with fluid filled pressure gauges they use glycerin in them for the fluid, have no idea if you’re brass compass would probably use the same fluid you probably already know this but just wanted to put it out there keep up the videos mate loving them 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

      Hi Nigel, sorry mate, she's not coming home. It's too tall and too wide to go down the road. And even if I got it here, it wouldn't fit down the side of my house. The boat yard is only about 10 minutes drive away. That's why I'm ferrying everything to and from in the car. It's a bit more messing about, but still do-able.

    • @pete-mate3524
      @pete-mate3524  5 днів тому

      Yeah, I know that's the right answer. But to make sure it's the right part, I have to strip the Portside box back down again. Decisions, decisions???

      @@pete-mate3524 Maybe if you can get a good deal (depending if the seller is keen to do that) just buy as much stuff as your budget allows, you know at least one gear needs replaced so maybe base it off of that?.
