Pathfinder g'box, engine, diff swap. Pt 1
Переглядів 242Місяць тому
In this episode, after clearing out a good part of my shed, I move the 'trusty' ol' Pathfinder onto the hoist and make a start on changing out the engine, automatic gearbox (exchanging for a manual) , and replacing the front diff assembly for the one that I previously fitted the Lokka diff lock system to.

Removing the differential assembly out of the 'donor' Pathfinder, pulling it apart and then fitting the "Lockrite" diff locker. And also trying to give some kind of explanation as to how these things work as I fit and reassemble the whole thing.

TD27, will it start
Переглядів 4132 місяці тому
In this video, I go over the 'spare' TD27 diesel engine that I have in the donor car and see if I can revive it back into life, while running some checks to make sure it's worth changing out. I hope you enjoy the video.

After completing repairs, modifications and upgrades to the Nissan Pathfinder, I take it for a run out to Chilligoe for a relaxing weekend with a bunch of old friends. Also, a couple of repairs that needed to be done after I got back home.

This week, I'm finishing off mounting the lights in the bullbar, adding some wheel flares to make it "roadworthy" again and adding a basic dual battery system to run the fridge.
Pathfinder Winch Pt3
Переглядів 2662 місяці тому
This video continues on with mounting the winch assembly to the chassis of the Nissan Pathfinder including making the "difficult" top mount braces and making the 'cut-outs' in the alloy bullbar for the front indicators. And finally, testing the winch motor.

In this video, I progress with the fabrication and installation of the winch mount and bullbar (AKA, 'the spotlight rack') for the Nissan Pathfinder (Terrano).
Pathfinder winch fitment Pt 1
Переглядів 2203 місяці тому
Today, I'm attempting to fit a recovery winch and bull bar to the front of my 92 model Nissan Pathfinder (Terrano). I don't often work on small cars like this, so I think I may have gone a bit 'overboard' with the materials used. But at least it shouldn't break!! Please enjoy.

We spotted an add on Marketplace for a 'free tractor' in a town about two hours away. Well, the price seemed good, but was it worth it? So, in this video, we go for a drive up to Dimbula, have a quick lookover the machine, load it up, take it back to our farm, and start to work on it in an effort to bring it back to life. Please enjoy.
Nissan Terrano, bike reg, backhoe
Переглядів 2673 місяці тому
Today, I'm tweaking up a couple of things on my Nissan Terrano (pathfinder) in an effort to boost it's reliability and make 'life' a bit more comfortable. Also, I have a look at my brothers Honda CBR1000F to try and diagnose an issue in the charging circuit. And lastly, I make a start on building the battery cover / foot step for the Case 580 backhoe.

Merry Christmas!
What is the clearance you put in the axial, I'm from Brazil?
Hey mate you haven't done a video for a while hope everything is good and well hope to see more videos soon speak soon old mate
Hi Pete, thanks for reaching out. I probably should have said something on my last vid', but I'm just going to take a couple of weeks off over the Christmas break. I promise I'll be back in January with more stuff to show. Take care, and have a great Christmas! :-)
What hp
Hi Amanda, I'm not certain what engine this is (It's was sold a long time ago), but from what I can find on the interweb, it's either a 115hp or 128hp. hope this helps.
Love the real world approach to your work. The luxury of having a shop plus all the correct tools is something very few of us have. Also, thanks for not assuming all viewers can't think for themselves and take safety measures that are less than perfect but appropriate. Too many ninny's out there. If we all operated with zero risk nothing would get done. Don't throw away the good in search of the perfect is my mantra. Keep the vids coming sir!
Thank you for your wise words and support. In fairness, I probably 'push the envelope' a bit much sometimes when it comes to safety, but it's a calculated risk. Hoses and seals in the 'lifting' backhoe were all brand new, and extensively tested, so I felt confident relying on it (sort of... ha ha!). Again, thank you for your comment. :-)
Good on yer mate. Good success!!!
Thanks Bob. I've been driving it for a week or two, now, and it's such a pleasure to drive. All the work was definitely worth it!!! Hope you have a great Christmas.
Great video Pete, you should make one on the planetary hubs.
Hi Mr Moose, if something comes up that needs a planetary rebuild, I'll certainly look into it. But this machine is all back together. Too much work to pull it apart again. But thanks for watching. :-)
Hi pete it's pete here mate another good video and I am glad you have your beast back on the road again congrats old mate 👍
Cheers Pete, good to be back on the road again. 👍
Brilliant vedio mate ! Just what we talked about , you put us right there in middle of the job so we see what going on . And, you were right that coolant was low in the "bonus" footage . Let us know if a new thermostat fixes the issue . Thanks again Pete . 🌵
Hi Scott, I tried to top up the coolant, but it seems to leak straight back out!!??? Ha ha! And yes, the new 'high flow' thermostat appears to have fixed the heating issue with the Pathfinder. It's such a pleasure to drive, now!
Frosty in Canada and Your sweating to death.Your tuffer tthan me I hate the heat. But ya goter done.Have a good week Pete.
Thanks Ricky, I much prefer the heat to the cold........ but there are limits!! Ha ha!
Happy for you that you got it going. When you mentioned you “clocked” the throttle control wrong I figured many young people wouldn’t know what that means due to few dial face clocks anymore. Question is, what’s on the agenda next? Also when I saw you soaked in sweat the cold we have isn’t so bad.
Hi Geoffrey, I reckon fitting the AC to the workshop is gunna be next! But for now, I'm probably going to take a week or two to myself.
@ 👍you deserve it!
I drove a D series Ford truck for an Abatotair back in the early 80s it had a slant 6 Perkins turbo diesel,,6 speed with high low splitter it had heaps of power and was a gem but very noisy as the exhaust pipe ran up beside the cab,, great memories in Western Australia,, they were a common truck used in 70s and 80s,,,,🇦🇺👍
Another successful project in the bag.
Thanks Mr Jambo, it's SO much nicer to drive, now!
chassis mounted earth straps used to give problems, try battery feed directly to the motor side of the solenoid and this eliminates half of the problem of starter not working
Muy buenos videos, muchas gracias.
Looks like you had lots on your plate to contend with this time round m8. Take it out camping for a week when you finish and enjoy your well earned rest!
Hi Bob, that's a brilliant idea! The camping trip, I mean. We're getting a heap of rain at the moment, so a camping trip would be awesome fun!! ....well, the 4w driving part would be! Ha ha!!
awesome ! good on you mate
You still got a lot done mate ! Those 3 bolts on the pedal box would be enough to make a guy say bad words . Looks like she'll run next week for sure . It'll be a truck more to your liking in the end , with the manual gearbox and all . 🌵
Hi Scott, yeah that bit of AC ducting was a real pickle. It lost, I won!! Woo hoo!!!
Hey Pete great video mate it's a pitty you didn't get the car finished but look forward to number 3 to come out keep up the good work old mate 👍
Hi Pete, thanks for the vote of confidence.
Pete, at least now you can say you would have gotten it done but Geoffrey spent too much time on the phone with you!😂 Seriously though, you are a very patient person doing all this as it always takes longer than expected and you keep your cool which help keeps your sanity. It will all be worth it in the end.
Hi Geoffrey, I would agree with you, but I've been working on it all week, and there's still more to go!
@@pete-mate3524Just one of those projects when every time you check one thing off the list you have to add 2 more!
Pete you need a BIGDER Shed.
Hi Shayne, yep! I whole heartedly agree!!!
Hey Pete, I just picked a similar Hoe, previous owner said I dumped a heap of oil out of a hose on the transmission so coming across all your videos on this will greatly diagnose possible problems I may encounter, thanks for your time you have put into these so great👌🇦🇺
Hi Alan, sorry for the late reply. Happy to see your enjoying the vids!! And good luck with your loader.
Don’t cleanup ya shed you’ll never find what you need ever again take it from me😀🇦🇺
Ha ha!! Very true!
Hello, I have a 1993 590 turbo, it uses the same transmission as the SK, forward gear is failing, it takes a few seconds to apply reverse, no problem, can you help me with any recommendations?
Hi Diego, sorry for the late reply. It sounds like low charge pressure. This may be caused by either the pump being worn out, or maybe the seals in the clutch-packs are worn out? To check these, you will need a test gauge, and the workshop manual to tell you which port to check and what the correct pressure should be. Good luck with it. I hope it's an easy / cheap fix for you.
Nice work mate👌🇦🇺
Thanks 👍
Hey pete, I did a transmission rebuild on my 580se, wondering if you could of pulled the transaxle out like I did, I was able to still run the motor hydraulics with all the bits de attached to the transaxle, I lowered the hole machine down to ground level withe the transaxle sitting on a piece of wood, I then undone the bolts holding onto the axle tubes then raised the machine with the outrigger legs high enough and was able to drag the whole trans out.. Luv ya work and the comment about you wife was a cracker😀🇦🇺
Hi Alan, If I remember correctly, pretty much every cylinder on the machine was leaking badly and also the hoses to the stabilizers were pretty rotten. So basically, nothing on the machine was working at this point of the operation.
Impressive! You are pretty good engineer. Well done. I used to drive one of those ford D series, in the 80,s. Yours starts better than mine did, but, the Scottish winter had a lot to do with that. Ha. Good luck on the project.
Thanks 👍
I did a rebuild on a580se transaxle one, hooked it all up only to find out I had 4 reverse and 1 forward🙈 I had that tranny out and back in no time crown wheel was oriented around the wrong way, my bad. 🤷🏻♂️🇦🇺
Ha ha!! It happens to the best of us!
Pete m8 you've got a big job there. I like the way you calmly do one job at a time until you have finished the entire project. You sure are more patient than me😊. Looking forward to the next episode!
Hi Bob. Calmly??? Maybe you forget about 'the power of editing'!! Ha ha!!! Thank you for the comment. :-)
Hi Pete, for me it’s good morning here. I watched your video yesterday, Sunday morning. For me with the 14 hour time difference it was like I was watching it before it happened 😂. I’m glad it’s you not me “building” that car but to have the way you want it will make it worth it and won’t cost $60,000. No one will hear much from me for a week or so as my phone bit the dust or shall I say water. I’m in Florida, the sunshine state of the States right now. Talk to you when I get home and a new phone.
Hi Cindy, and thank you for the comment. Yes, It's turning out to be a bigger job than I was planning on, but at least it's not costing a fortune. I am definitely looking forward to getting it finished and doing more camping trips in it. Sorry to hear about your phone. I hope you can get it fixed / replaced easily!
Hey Pete, thanks for sharing your struggles with the D21 ,they are a solid vehicle but can be challenging when doing mechanical work, plenty of swearing of camera I bet ,be glad when it’s done 😵💫👍🇦🇺
Hi Frank, I'm kinda getting used to it, now. But yes, definitely looking forward to it all being finished!!
Buen día
Hi Pete. Another good one mate and a lot of effort being put into this vehicle. Are you back to the Isuzu while this is off the road?
Hi Steve. Yep, I'm back in the 'bone cracker'. I've driven it for one day and already miss the little Nissan!! Ha ha. One good thing about the Suzy is the AC is bloody awesome!!
Nice just need a airconditioner it there
Funny enough, I have an AC for the shed. Just need to find time to fit it.
@pete-mate3524 here you there i drive trucks in Western Australia do anywhere from perth to Darwin
Be a fair machine when it's all done Pete.
I hope so! it'd be a shame to do all this work for nothing! Ha ha!
I’ll have to look thru my “junk” for a locker of some sort a friend gave me. It’s like a salesman’s display model to show how it works. I’ll include it in a video when I find it.
Thanks Geoffrey, if you find it, I'll recommend people to go have a look. My explanation was horrible!!
Good job mate ! You made that look easy , I could almost smell the old gear oil from here . Cheers 🌵
Thanks Scott. The hardest part of the job was trying to explain how it works!! Ha ha!!
Nice work mate. My favourite Sunday night show being watched Monday. That bench looks a lot cleaner too😊. Well done mate talk soon
Thanks Steve! The whole shed looks a bit cleaner, at the moment!! I spent the weekend clearing it out in preparation for the big day (the engine swap)!!
@ it’s good mate. I’m doing the same at the moment. It clears your mind also. Nothing like a good work area
Nice work Pete m8. Enjoyed that video and I would consider you once again employee of the month!
Thanks Bob!! Woo Hoo!!! I won again!!! Ha ha ha
Lockrite or Lock-Right?
It used to be "Lockrite", but they appear to have dropped that name and simply call themselves "Lokka", now.
@pete-mate3524 Thank you, found it.
I must have missed the explanation? I get the ratcheting for turning, but how does the Locker engage the lock?
Yeah, sorry. My feeble explanation was pretty bad! So, basically, it's locked all the time, and the faster spinning wheel (like, the outside wheel in a corner) will unlock and ratchet until the speed slows down to the same speed as the inside (or bogged) wheel. The cross in the middle is holding the two halves locked while it has load on it. There are some much clearer descriptions of this on other channels. I unfortunately, don't have the budget for the detailed graphics that others use. Again, I'm sorry!
@pete-mate3524 I will have to look harder to find an explanation I understand. Thank you for the reply.
