  • I took high doses of zinc supplements for a year but my zinc levels didn't budge. I had no idea what else i could do! And then I stumbled upon research connecting zinc and copper, which finally solved my health riddle. Zinc tally test now shows that my zinc levels are optimal, there are no white spots on my nails, and I don't suffer from hangnails anymore. This information changed my life!
    #zinc #mineralimbalance #copper
    I got my extra copper either from liquid chlorophyll (contains 4mg of copper: amzn.to/2jB3cjH) or from a chelated copper supplement (3mg, amzn.to/2jclYBK).
    Here's how to test your zinc levels at home: • How To Test Your Zinc ...
    A video where I talk about improving absorption: • Taking Supplements But...
    Hope you find this helpful! Of course, remember that I'm not a doctor and this is not medical advice. I'm just sharing what worked for me but it's important for you to do your own research before making informed decisions.

      There's no copper in Vitamin C, where did you hear that? Morley Robbins? I don't know what he means with that nonsense. Of course fruit contains copper but not the Vitamin C (which is just another name for ascorbic acid) molecule.
      Also chlorophyll contains magnesium, not copper, it's chlorophyllin that contains copper, but that is a man-made substance.

    I wasn't able to wrap my head around the idea that people stopping zinc supplementation and getting copper were able to raise their zinc levels (I have heard this in other forums). Then I read that the protein carrier metallothionein which is stimulated by taking zinc can bind up zinc along with copper, so that would explain why taking zinc is counter intuitive when trying to raise zinc levels. It makes me wonder if zinc supplements are not more of a problem than people know. I personally have stopped my zinc supps and am trying to just get adequate amounts from food, along with food form copper.

      Zinc+full spectrum of minerals including copper.
      Most health food stores that offer mineral supplements use the ratios found in nature. I believe 1 serving of Oysters is 15mg of zinc and 1mg of copper. A lot of people who only take zinc are eating animal protein everyday(bioavailable copper)

I don't have the luxury to always eat top quality meat and with our depleted soils one could be deficient. If you ever test low on a certain B vitamin you would always want to follow it with the rest of the B complex as taking one without the other would deplete the rest.
      This synergistic relationship applies to minerals as well. If you supplement with Zinc make sure to take the rest of Trace minerals at a later time so you don't have a deficiency in others. **I'm not a doctor just studied Orthomolecular medicine*

    Loveee this, your videos are coming out in aawesome synchronicity with me. I've been struggling with hair loss since high school, along with irregular cycles, to now not having had a period for almost a year.. two days ago my doctor finally found that i have (lean) PCOS, which to me i feel it's highly due to just low levels of zinc for most of my life.. i always ate highly refined foods and had a ridiculous sweet tooth as a teen! sugar all day long.. to then going to a high fruit vegan diet for almost 5 years... it's no wonder my hair loss never resolved as a vegan, i just made myself even more mineral imbalanced, and probably copper "toxic"! i truly need to balance out my zinc to hopefully regulate my hormones and regrow some hair, without having to get on bcp or hormone therapy.. i believe my body can do it! im now starting to feel amazing eating liver, and a well balanced diet. :) What do you think about eating nuts or other high copper foods, in addition to copper supplementation? looking forward to your copper video

I'm a retired RN and thought maybe I had thrush as I've never had this white tongue!
      And like a miracle you and Gabriel are sharing the same issue. I already bought some chelated copper. It has mag stearate in it which Im not crazy about. But I can get a different one soon. I am just desparate to feel better. Would you kind ladies share your knowlege on the white tongue correlation with copper? Did you take more in the beginning? This is really disturbing because after spending hundreds of dollars with a naturopath, blood testing and a hair test--- I was told that I was copper toxic.... He perscribed the zinc liquid to take daily and I kid you not-- I almost gagged to death it tasted so disgusting to me.... yet he said to take it 3X a day. I had read about the taste test and it seemed extremely odd to me that he was sayng I'm zinc deficient---- yet I was also tasting the zinc--- which would actually indicate that I'm Not zinc deficient...... Hmmmmm--- I'll try the copper and see how I feel.

    • @Vitalivesfree
      @Vitalivesfree  5 років тому +1

      That sounds very odd. If you haven't done so already, I would highly suggest asking the naturopath for a copy of the tests and doing your own research on the results. There's soooo much room for error, especially as there is so much focus on "copper toxicity" among naturopaths these days. Levels of copper in the soil decreased by around 90% in the last 100 years or so, yet they're still talking about copper toxicity. That's crazy!

So, I want to experiment by taking only copper, no zinc, at least for a while. But what about the need to balance copper with zinc, as many nutritionists say? I eventually realized it was zinc and stopped it and started taking chelated copper. My symptoms went away and my serum zinc went up from borderline low to between low-mid. But I've done the zinc test. Bought a bottle and the bottle said pour 5ml approx 15mg zinc solution with 60ml water and swirl in the mouth. All I taste is a bit dryness like red wine can be and then a sorta sweet taste. This would indicate low zinc. Pls help me! Kind regards Doug

    • @Vitalivesfree
      @Vitalivesfree  6 років тому +2

      I haven't been able to find any official studies done on the mechanism of copper being necessary for zinc absorption, but I think I've heard Morley Robbins talk about it in the past (not entirely sure) and it surely looks like it in my case because my zinc levels are now optimal with no zinc supplements at all, just some extra copper. If you tasted the zinc solution right away, even if it wasn't unpleasant, it means your zinc levels are sufficient. I've recently done a hair mineral analysis and it show optimal levels of zinc with low levels of copper, so my intuition was right. That's why any extra zinc makes me sick and extra copper is amazing for my body. Our bodies are truly fascinating and so complicated! xx

      +rochellecl They're still very small and were hiding under the cuticles that needed to be pushed up. Just 8 months ago I had none at all, then they came out a bit when I started taking kelp for iodine, then I stopped taking it and white moons got smaller again. I started taking kelp again recently and the moons are coming out again rapidly. Basically, lack of moons means iodine deficiency which I'm still very deficient at. Getting there! 😉

      @lotusn4175 7 років тому +4

    • @Vitalivesfree
      @Vitalivesfree  7 років тому +5

      Apparently, the ones on the thumbs never disappear (I've always had them, too), while all the others might. Healthy white moons should be big enough to come out way beyond the cuticles. A lack of white moons is also linked to low thyroid, but that's more or less the same as lack of iodine as they're both linked very strongly. Interestingly, my husband lost the white moons at the same time as me, but his are beautiful and big now. I think it's because the male physiology needs less iodine, so he reacted to kelp quicker than me. Or maybe I was simply more deficient than him. It's a very interesting topic! In fact, once I regrow my white moons, I'll make a video about them, too. :-) So glad you're learning new things from my videos!

      Anousha Zia. These are symptoms of pica, an abnormal craving caused by a mineral deficiency. Your cat is likely anemic & lacks iron. First off, determine why she's anemic--often fleas are the cause. Check her fur for fleas & the black debris fleas leave behind. To kill all fleas on her within two hours, give her a Capstar tablet; you can purchase one at your vet; it is effective for 24 hours. Also apply a monthly flea preventative to the back of her neck; either get from your vet or purchase online. I suggest Stronghold, which is known as Revolution in the states.
      To build up her blood, offer her some raw chicken liver with the juice. Sometimes cats who won't eat the liver, will lap up the liquid part. Or, if she doesn't care for it raw, offer her cooked chicken liver instead; she will likely accept that.
      There is also a liquid supplement called Pet-Tinic designed for cats & dogs which will help restore her iron levels, though it is not necessary if you can get her to eat chicken liver.

    Can I take copper without getting my levels tested first?

    • @Vitalivesfree
      @Vitalivesfree  7 років тому +2

      +CupNoodleKitty There are no reliable tests for copper, so it's really your call. I studied the symptoms of copper deficiency and they matched, plus I intuitively felt I needed it, so I went for it. In any case, if you take zinc, copper must be taken with it. Unfortunately, the majority of mainstream doctors and nutritionists are still painting copper as something dangerous. Nobody really knows who's right. But we surely can listen to our bodies, listen to our intuition, and carefully experiment. xx

      Thank you for your reply! I'm zinc deficient (I got tested a few times) and the levels are not really going up that much although I'm taking a high quality supplement every day.. So I guess copper could be the answer. I think you're right and we should experiment and listen to our bodies

    This is a great testimony. I obviously have symptoms pf zinc deficiency, though I was always on the fence about taking it because sometimes I can feel nauseous afterward and I had no idea where my copper levels were. I had heard about the relationship of copper and zinc - how copper and zinc compete mechanistic processes in the body. It sounded difficult and confusing to try and determine those levels in the body. This video paired with your DIY zinc level home test is a great way to determine this without the blind paranoia of supplementing. At least now there is an easy option to monitor yourself to avoid toxicity (warning: Not valid medical advice. Heavy metal toxicity is a serious risk. Use at your own risk).
    Thanks for this. I just started zinc again to try. I will Supplement for a time, and try the home test. If levels are low, I will proceed switching to a copper and test again.
    Thanks!

    Zinc supplements should be taken in a chelated form or chemically bound to an organic molecule (like it is in your food). Zinc picolinate also needs to be taken in a 10:1 ratio with copper: 50 mg Zinc Picolinate w/5 mg copper.

    White spots on the nails are from damage. Stubbing your finger even lightly without you even realizing it can cause this.

    • @Vitalivesfree
      @Vitalivesfree  6 років тому +7

      It's not true at all. Very rarely, white spots will be due to trauma. However, most often it will be low zinc. At my sickest, I had white spots on all my nails, and trust me, I wasn't going around stubbing my nails all day long. I probably do it much more now because I'm more active, yet no white spots. The conventional medicine's unwillingness to see the signs that nails are sending is a real shame. xx

      White spots can indicate zinc deficiency. Can also indicate vitamin A deficiency, and also signify emotional trauma or stress at the stage of white spot onset. ... Stubbing a finger ? Hmmm...usually amounts in blue and black marks: bruises. ...... A tad different.

      I just looked at the supplement bottle of zinc and it says that it is 50 mg of zinc and 0.5 mg of copper....I suspect that this is enough?

    • @Vitalivesfree
      @Vitalivesfree  7 років тому

      Yes, I also listened to that type of information and believed I had "copper toxicity" and low copper. That's why I kept supplementing with zinc. However, later on I came across a different side of the coin where copper is actually a vital mineral that a lot of us are deficient in and without correct copper levels it's impossible to have good zinc levels. My experience with these two minerals completely confirms it. The right ratio varies anywhere between 1:7 to 1:15 for copper to zinc depending on who you're listening to. I personally would go with 1:7 if i was supplementing with zinc. A supplement with 20mg of zinc and 0.5 mg of copper has a very wrong ratio however you look at it. Even the most conservative approach of 1:15 would still be far away from this ratio of 1:40. The amount of zinc is also very high, so it's a sure way to copper deficiency. That's what happened to me. xx
