My family went out to Rocky Mountains National Park and it is one of the most beautiful vacations we ever had. We stopped off at Estes Park (a town, not a park) and picked up a sack lunch to take along. If you ask the local store-keepers, they can point you to the entrance to Fall River Road. We planned to drive up Fall River Road with our lunch and eat by Chasm Falls. However, about halfway there, someone up ahead of us had car trouble and the traffic was stopped. Other drivers had gotten out of their cars and were helping the folks with the car trouble. After waiting for a while, our kids got hungry so we we decided to get out and sit on the side of the mountain, eat our lunch and watch all the goings-on around us. We also had a beautiful view of the valley below. Traffic started to move again and we did finally make it to Chasm Falls. Visitors should know that it is a relatively easy walk from the parking area down to the waterfalls and there are several stones large enough to sit down and rest on while photographing the falls. It was well worth the traffic stop on the way up. Also, our picnic lunch came from a terrific sandwich shop called The Big Cheese down in Estes Park. If you never go to see Chasm Falls, you will always regret it. By the way, Fall River Road is believed to be the same path that the Ute tribe would take to go up to their summer campgrounds in the mountains. That would have been one fantastic summer living up there in the clear mountain air.

I'm taking US-6 all the way from NW Indiana to Colorado, then catching US-34 into Estes Park and RMNP in July, assuming I can get the reservations I need lol
