Aftermarket Gauges - so many to chose from! A quick search for aftermarket gauges yields many different results, with each gauge monitoring different aspects of the cars performance. From Intake and Exhaust Temps, Air Fuel Ratio's, Boost, Oil and Water Temp, Oil Pressure, and Volts. Add to the mix the different manufacturers, and you'll quickly see that hundreds of options are available, and all at different price ranges.
Despite the sea of choices, there are three gauges every turbocharged car or truck should have. These three gauges monitor different areas of engine health to ensure that nothing goes wrong, and the driver is made aware of anything that could harm the motor or turbocharger.

Digital or analog gauges have nothing to do with leaking oil and or fuel lines. your confusing them with mechanical and Electric style gauges. Digital style gauges will have a sending unit and are electrical units. Mechanical type Gauges will either have a tube or mechanical thermocouple like on a Water temp gauge or a capillary tube that will screw into the engine at an oil gallery to measure oil pressure. Lots of misinformation. NA modified cars wont usually need a boost gauge, but oil press. water temp and a tach would be very basic. Fuel pressure and AF gauges can help with tuning as well.
Would it be more responsible to have an electric style gauge with a digital display or analog display?
I have OP/V & Amp gauges on my riding mower! So those & boost/afr are a must IMHO

MAPERFORMANCE, I'm disappointed, this guy obviously doesn't know what he's talking about at all. And he is confusing analog and digital gauges with mechanical and electrical gauges. Cuz and electrical gauge can be analog or digital and mechanical can too. Get someone who knows what they are talkinf about MA.
you say digital or analog are the 2 types of gauges. You mean electrical or mechanical right? thats the same thing?
Digital and analogue refer to the gauge face(how you read it). Electrically mechanical refer to the actual way that gauges work.(how the gauges read).

Not to hate but what you said about digital and analogue is completely wrong, that refers to the display not the sensor, you are referring to electronic or mechanical.
Not to mention if your tuner is using your gauges you need a new tuner😂
Umm, I know this is ancient, but...I have an 03 Silverado with a recently rebuilt gauge cluster. It has an Oil Pressure gauge. Would you trust it and if so what gauge would you put in OPs place, Fuel Pressure? Thanks for any suggestions, from anyone.

Tuners don’t need your gauges
Iam planning on buying a EC5A Galany VR4 for my future first car. It has showed a lot of interests on me.
1. In Indonesia, theyre sold for a really cheap price
2. There are some tuned ones and theyre still sold for cheap
3. Some are mint and still sold for cheap
4. If affording a Evo is too expensive, Galant is the replacement
For the sake of my future self, what gauges do you recommend for a daily drive?

When you say Boost gauge, are you meaning Boost Pressure gauge or Boost vacuum gauge?
boost vacuum gauge? those are opposites
he says boost gauge that reads both boost and vac so he should have said a boost/vac gauge which is normally connected somewhere close to the intake. Its suppose to be monitoring intake pressure and vac.

Hey Tom, it depends on what type of track driving you will be doing! We also recommend oil temp for the track.

I'm planning on install A pillar pod for my 2006 silverado 4.8 . I'm planning on installing a turbo set up in the future. I know I will need a turbo gauge, air fuell rato gauge. I want to get a oil pressure gauge to complete my pillar. This may be a dumm questions but most cars/truck already come with a oil pressure gauge in the cluster?
Or is this oil pressure gage different?
We can certainly get you hooked up with some great gauges! Your truck should have a oil pressure gauge already but a 2nd one couldn't hurt, or find an alternative for the empty spot. There are adapters to hold phones, etc!
If I had to narrow it down to two gauges which two seems like the most important? I have a gauge pod set up that only takes 2 Gauges.
We would probably do boost and A/F!

I can let him reading notes pass, he said he was a web tech not a mechanic. Although it would of looked more professional and be somewhat safer if instead looking down to read his notes on his lap he had placed his notes beside his camera. However it doesn't sound like he knows he talking about with afr gauges and he was given notes from someone else to read. Poor bastard!

Definitely air fuel and boost, oil pressure is a plus.

Yes boost gauges are pretty much universal. If it has a turbo, gauge should work! A/Fs and oil pressure too.
