This will boost the cars to over 800 HP and do away with the stalling. I don't understand the complaints. Faster racing with less interruptions. Looking forward to see how this debuts at Mid-Ohio.
They’re confusing it with electric
We hope it gets there. However, at the moment the 30 N-m additional torque limit imposed by the series means it can add no more than 51 hp at 12000 rpm, and the energy store limit of 105 kJ means it can provide that level of power for no more than 2.8 seconds.
Because normies don't understand the tech, they just hate on it.
Because some people either like to complain or they think things should always stay as is.
It’s not saving any fuel like you see in WEC hybrids. The amount of HP isn’t going to be like was originally talked about. Then they won’t be getting a new Eng in a few years like was suppose to happen because it won’t fit in the current chassis. On ovals that’s been very vague on what HP will be given, additionally. They don’t use the p2p on ovals now. I think it was an expensive venture with more hype then results 🤷 It won’t have the HP like
We saw in the CART era
Hope this will convince some news manufacturers to join Indycar
A bespoke system not used in any other racing series, it's gonna have the opposite effect
Exciting, I hope Indycar is collaborating with iRacing to get this new engine and changes added to the sim ASAP!
People hate but this is gonna be good for racing. So much control for teams and drivers, can’t wait to see how they utilize this.
And no more stalling, that’ll be nice.
Yup
Not sure how it can improve the racing. Added weight, cost, and complexity have always been the enemies of good racing.
@@billmartin1010nope lmaooooo ur so slow dude
@@billmartin1010 Raising the skill ceiling always makes things more interesting. Getting the most out of this system will require the drivers to be very busy in the cockpit, just like the best drivers do with their roll bars and weightjacker for 500 qualifying.
For sure. Things have to change from time to time to keep things interesting. It will be fun to see who adapts best and quickest.
I dont care if people hate this. People hated wings. People hated the safety screen. Indycars have always been changing. This is gonna be fun!
NOW, can we get a chassis!!!
It’s going to have to happen sooner or later….. you would think.
@@STC987 they could bring back the DO-01....they only used it for a season. It would be "new" to most people
We are excited to see it deployed and watch how the drivers use it on track.
A new era begins for IndyCar with hybrid engines.
Who thought of putting the motor-generator in the bellhousing? Honda had the Integrated Motor Assist on their first hybrid about 25 years ago that was sandwiched between the engine and transaxle.
Awesome thank you
2:47 As a Machinist, im gonna have to go ahead and disagree with you on this one Dave 😂
Honda threatened to leave to get this and they still might anyways.
They're the most unreliable (in terms of management) engine manufacturer in the history of motorsports
Ever since global warming failed as a marketing strategy it seems Honda has to bring themselves down by hopping on the “sustainability” bandwagon.
I love Honda more than them all, but the threat to leave (if true) really pisses me. Stick with the 90% renewable fuel or whatever the % is. I don't want electric invading ever, but we shall see. I'm willing to bet it's cost ineffective compared to the status quo & be cost prohibitive..
IndyCar has risen from the grave to the most popular it's been in 15-20 years. IndyCar has been steadily grabbing more fans all over the world. A huge contract with FOX for next year & beyond & has been highly popular on Peacock. Then they throw this monkey wrench in!
It's not going to 'help the environment'. Can't we stick to straight gasoline?
Huge IndyCar fan, so I'm willing to see how it goes. When I first heard the word hybrid & IndyCar together I was ready to throw something. They're taking away all our fun adult toys!
Looking forward to this, and how they show it working during the race! And no more drivers spinning their fingers in the air for a restart from the safety team!!
I wonder how long they can deploy the electric boost by using ultra capacitors
For Iowa, the series has mandated a maximum of 105 kJ deployment per lap. That's 50 hp for no more than 2.8 seconds.
@@stephenjarzombek2903wow, I have not seen this details. I saw 320k joule and a 5 second deployment, according to HRC
V6 engine power + Hybrid system: I presume. Any chance a straight 4 cylinder power plant gets matched to a Hybrid system ? Just wondering...
I would love to see honda have a k20 based hybrid indycar engine. Or GM with the gen 3 ecotec
I wish Chevy and Honda would have worked on their own engine development to keep it a true manufacturer challenge.
Team work makes the dream work
It's the Apocalypse! All for fun! This was great! Both have their own engines.... gotta do them totally in house!
So if they were 14s slower at Cota!! Compared with F1, so now it is gonna be like 4s faster at Cota.😅😅
Looking forward to seeing how this changes the racing. Should be interesting.
Honda Without racing it feels bland
Why is this done mid season?
Because it wasn't ready at the beginning of the season, as originally scheduled.
america marches to the beat of its own drum ..in F1 this would never happen.
You should call this a Mr. Fusion.
When do they kiss???
So with Honda and Chevy working together to build this engine, does that mean that both engines are identical? I apologize if this is a dumb question, but I’m a little bit confused
No.
This is separate from the engines, so both are still different
Bring 2015 IndyCar series back
This is the beginning of the end. Making ANYTHING more expensive in a high inflation phase is the stupiest decision you can do.
if Letterman thinks it’s too much to spend, maybe he’ll come sit on the couch with you and talk about being cheap.
you gotta spend money to make money, you gotta spend money to go fast, and you gotta spend money to win. boohoo, I don’t feel bad for these millionaires and billionaires that have to spend more money, and you shouldn’t either.
This hybrid tech is nothing new as it has been used before in endurance racing, so it's not that expensive anymore.
@@mArvAlcao71 Actually I was thinking the wrong way. I thought super expensive and super heavy F1 hybrid.
Increasing costs, weight, and complexity. Not a great endorsement for the manufacturers. Why do it? Especially when IndyCar can't afford to allow aerodynamic or styling differentiation. If you had to spend money, UPDATE THESE ARCHAIC CARS IN A VISIBLE, MEANINGFUL WAY!
It's not that new so it's not that expensive anymore. And they implement hybrid or Honda would withdraw.
Toyota used supercapacitors in their 2012-13 TS030 and 2014-15 TS040 WEC hybrids. They ditched this inferior storage method for lithium-ion batteries in the TS050. That's not very innovative, Indycar.
Shut up
Toyota didn't just ditch the supercapacitors because they didn't like them. The fuel usage regulations at the time were heavily favouring battery storage and Audi moved to it as well, having a flywheel system that was also better at charging and deploying more quickly but couldn't hold the energy for long. The hybrid in IndyCar is purely additive, they are not trying to make more mileage but go faster, that's why it's suitable for the application.
That's not what happened at all, supercapacitors are amazing for racing, adds relatively little weight while allowing to enjoy the benefit of electric regen and boost. But it just doesn't hold enough juice for a full wec race, but in Indy it's perfect.
@@jaguatiricaimediata5305 But the amount of energy that can be stored in a light weight supercap is far less than can be stored in a battery of the same volume. That's why F1 uses Li-ion batteries, and why the IndyCar ERS appears to be limited to 150 kJ storage versus 4,000 kJ in the current F1 power units.
The application of the tech is.
I saw those a few years ago and they suck! People want to hear the roar of the engine. ☹️👎
These hybrid IndyCars actually idle higher, and are just as loud as the version without the hybrid unit. Doesn’t muffle sound like F1’s famously did
False there are multiple tests and the cars sound the same so nice try
Are you thinking of Formula E? The hybrid Indycars still have the same combustion engine they've had for years.
ehm the engines just stay as same.
Gross
Ur super slow
Safety killed all sports
safety?
Nobody cares about Indy Car anymore
The hate boner for you is wild and so unhealthy lmfao.

Payment for keeping the government off someone's back? Yah, E bikes really have everyone on the edge of their seats in MotoGP.
MotoE is brilliant, but it's promoted horribly. If they made the top category electric, it would be a different story.
@@tomekkubiak_ still seems very PC to me. Pro sports snd car companies kowtow to Foggy Bottom.
If we're doing cherry picking, IMSA/WEC has been running hybrids for years and the racing has been amazing. Same with F1. Not fair to paint technologies with a broad brush, it all depends on how it is applied in the rulebook.
