Lol Lefty knows he is supposed to do what you tell him. But sometimes he looks like he is thinking…… man I don’t want to do that. He’s a good dog and has such a personality.
The fans in the cheap ones have cheap plastic bearings which don't like it when it's cold. Once heated up the plastic bearings go back to doing their job. But you need the fan to turn to heat the place up and these plastic bearings can actually freeze up causing the heater to fail altogether. Invest in the expensive one and get it over with. The truck drivers use the expensive one and they don't have problems.
You and Lefty moaning back and forth was hilarious. Thanks for that laugh! Those bugs are so common in the West. We always called them stink bugs because that's what they emit as a defense. It's pretty bad. Order the heater. You KNOW if you don't the current one will die and you will freeze. Have you tried a sweater/coat for Lefty? Some dogs love them and some won't tolerate them. Seems like all dogs love blankets!

Hi David, I think you should order 2 heaters, that way you always have 1 on hand and when 1 breaks just order a new one and you always have 1. It's for yours and Lefty's comfort and comfort is important. Just my 2 cents!!
I have Sticks and Bricks and I have a room where my amphibians are and I have to have a good heater for there since it doesn't have a heat duct in it so I always have a spare heater on hand electrical plug-ins you know
Regarding the diesel heater it's nice to have a spare when you need it right away. I am installing one in my little homebuilt teardrop camper before I go to quartzite, AZ for the first time.
I have been running my diesel heater for 4 yrs. Have had it soot choke, have had my glow plug die, and had my control computer decide to stop working. I now have a small repair box that lives next to my heater with spare glow plugs, control computer, fuel line, fuel pump, a cheat sheet chart for adjusting for altitude, and a trouble shooting sheet for error codes. I see adding Japanese barring, from a reader above would be a good add.
I've had 2 pumps fail and 2 had the bearings start making noise. All still ran... the bearings are a weak part. I carry pumps, controllers, fuel line, and an extra heater for parts :)
Great video David. My first year out there I brought my air conditioner. Never used it. Last year I was in Tucson for a bit and it snowed on me. Being from NY you will understand this the snow was snowball making snow. The spots that didn't get sun the snow was still there the next day. Nice to have that spare heater so if something happens just a quick swap out. I have had great luck with those heaters knock on wood.

Hi David and Lefty. I've always lived by the motto you get what you pay for. Buy cheap #$&? You will have to replace it. Add those costs together and you've spent over time what you should have spent the first time. Only if you'd have spent it the first time you wouldn't have had to deal with the frustrations in between. I live my life only buying quality products simply because I'm cheap. It saves me money in the long run. I hope you get a good heater. It may indeed be more expensive but it will last longer. Look at the ones used in big trucks. I never had a problem with the ones I had in my big trucks. Good luck. Be safe and stay well.

Hi guys, my wife and I live full time in our 33 foot class A and we have been using chinese diesel heaters for the last 5 years. After our third heaters fan bearings failed I took the fan motor apart and installed good quality high temp bearings, since then I have had no failures, these heaters use size 625zz bearings in the fan motors.

I had the screaming diesel heater problem too. it was the bearings and David McCluckie has a repair video. I bought a new diesel heater and installed it cause it was cold but disassembled the old one, ordered new bearings from Japan (not China) and using his video changed the bearings. I now have a spare heater waiting to change out the new one if or when it does the same. I carry spare pump glo plug. With out the video I would not have attempted but McCluckie answered all the right questions. And gave a link to the japan bearings. BTW I bought a spare set of bearings for the other heater and new gaskets because they arre brittle and can break when you open the case. Look him up and fix your old units for a spare if you dare...Cheers! Ill be out near Quartzite in mid Jan if your still around Id like to say hello
I have that exact same controller, with a 2K (Orange with fake carbon fiber top $140 on eBay) and you are supposed to take them apart every year and clean out and inspect everything. There are several videos on here that explain how. They are super easy to disassemble, as they are not complicated machines at all. All I did with mine this year was blow it out with compressed air. When I first got mine, the bearings were noisy, and apparently it is very common with the 2k's.I got some Japanese bearings, and put them in and it is super quiet now.
Hi David, Often the Chinese diesel heaters have inferior ball bearings, but they can be fairly easily replaced with sky or similar quality bearings. I am almost 100% sure this is the reason they get noisy. They turn a lot of rpm. There are some channels here which show how to change them, I am sure you can do it yourself. Perhaps and what I will do for myself is buying a Chinese version, immediately replace the bearings with SKF or an American Brand you know, I also buy the eberspacher exhaust and muffler which are far better than the knock offs. That way you probably last a lot longer with the heater. At heart I believe mispronounced adventures here on UA-cam has an episode where he overhauls a diesel heater including changing the bearings. Anyways Google luck!! 🍀
I'd say heat is rather vital, and having a spare on-hand for a swap isn't the worst idea. You can then fix what's broken in the one that's down and have it as a spare. I went $$ crazy and ordered an ecoflow wave heat pump myself to go with my Delta Pro and that's been working rather well, but I have a diesel heater as my backup, and if all else fails I have a buddy heater.
A friend bought a ton of those heaters, his trick is to let it run on high or off. He doesnt use the lower speeds and he'll open a window to bring in cool air . Good luck
Without a dought,Lefty has his own personality. They all do and just like my dogs they test us to see how far they can go. Enjoy your videos. Especially you and Lefty interacting together❤. Lol
Order that heater , as for myself I like a little heat early in the morning ,while waiting for the coffee pot to do it's thing. Take care David and Lefty just love how you too hold a conversation.
For some reason I lost your channel…. Happy to find it again, I’ve loved watching lefty, he’s built up a quality fan club ❤. We love our heater , hate being cold, it’s Saturday here in Australia so lm going to watch your videos today many thanks for the videos,
Lefty is hilarious, your channel is like Therapy for RV'rs. My neighbors bought an airbag system to skirt their class A motorhome against the winter, it cost $4000 CAD. I said to 1 of my neighbors, $4000 buys a hell of a lot of propane. I have seen a few of the Diesel heaters in RV's and everybody that has one really likes them. For me if it ain't cheap, I ain't buying it.
Hi Dave, glad you got the heater up and running OK, but I'm with you when it comes to the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" club. Sometimes things sitting unused for a while tend to develop gremlins, like when you hadn't started the truck at your mom's and it took a couple of starts to get things right. Having a brand new spare would certainly be wise and would be something to consider but I understand you not wanting to spend the money. If this heater doesn't give you any more issues maybe it would be wise to run it once a month year round even in the summer just to test run it and prevent this issue again. Good luck with it and hope the both of you stay safe and enjoy the moderate weather. It's dropped down below freezing at night here in CT and stays in the high 30's low 40's. Just 21 more days and they will start to get longer. Take care my friend...
Yes the diesel heaters need to be serviced occassionally. You can buy gasket kits for them. Some people say every season. You also need to fine tune them for altitude. The default settings allow them to run at higher altitudes up to 1200 meters (3500 feet) in the normal mode however even at lower altitudes they tend to run rich. You can find videos on both servicing and tuning these heaters. Some people go to the extent of upgrading the blowers for better quieter ones, and also upgrade the controller. It's not really necessary to do that, but it does make it better. They can last for years, but you do have to fiddle and fine tune them a bit.
The controller I have has elevation control - whether it works well or not I'm not sure. I need to dig into this and see if I can figure out what's causing the problem (noise)!
@@TheCampulanceMan Yeah, I'd recommend you order a gasket kit and do the service once the weather warms up a bit. From what I can remember it's a job that can be done in the field. They can be cleaned out with soapy water, or a blow torch. Definitely have a look at some videos. Similarly, as far as I can remember the tuning on these is set up to run fairly rich, and the provided altitude controls are just sea level and high (above 1200 meters, which leans it out, but too lean for sea level). Fine tuning is not necessary, as long as you are prepared to do the servicing every couple of seasons. It's unlikely that carbon will have got to the fans. The combustion chamber is completely separate from the air chamber. It might be possible that you got some debris in the air intake though, or the fan bearing was running dry at the beginning of the cold weather. The gas flow through the combustion chambers is a tornado effect caused by expanding exhaust gas. A blocked up combustion chamber would sound "weird" but maybe not louder, poor conduction of heat to the air chamber (running colder than normal, slow ignition and startup times) and eventually automatic shutdowns when the controller detects incorrect combustion or no start. Also I guess, red hot carbon particles coming out of the exhaust pipe. I'm sure a lot of people chuck these away and get a new one once it fails to heat but the most common problems are failed fuel ticker pumps and blocked combustion chambers, and the gaskets are way cheaper than a replacement heater. You can probably do the job in about 30 minutes. I'd also lubricate fan bearing while I was in there. Silicon grease is normally the best thing because it doesn't dry out and stays where you put it. (probaby what was used initially, but maybe not enough of it). Oh, and just to add... I've often wondered if running it at high altitude (lean) for half an hour every few weeks might not clean carbon deposits in the combustion chamber. Just be careful, because the exhaust would be very rich in carbon monoxide while you were doing that (burning the carbon off produces carbon monoxide, mostly). Make sure the wind is blowing directly away from the van, of course, and keep a fire watch for any hot embers getting blown out directly.
It's the same in Australia, desserts are freezing at night. Once I had to take the seat covers off the 4wd and wrap them around me to stay alive! Tanimi dessert if any one wants to look it up, one of the most deselate places on earth
Lefty sounds like a cow, mooing, while looking out your window! What a hoot!! And please get a new heater….so the two of you can stay toasty-roasty warm!! 🤗💕
It’s so funny when you are talking to us about the diesel heater going normal again Lefty is like, “there he goes talking to himself again! I think he’s probably really crazy“. And then he licks you a little bit after that.
Pick up a flower pot and bottom saucer and a bag of tealight candles(10 to 12 hours) look up videos on this. For $5 to $10 bucks they are a great backup in an emergency.
Sounds like maybe the fan bearing is going out. Bearings and fans aren't expensive generally, but if those things use a custom part it might be tough to find a replacement part.
Hey David and son "Lefty", I vote for a new heater since I am from Florida and if it's below 60 degrees, I am cold too like your other camper friend. Stay warm, stay safe, behave.
It's getting cold this weekend bro. I have a tarantula and had to get her a heating pad and she lives in a cage in a drawer so she is safe , they prefer being alone and safe. ❤

Hi Dave I think it is so cool how Lefty talks to you.
@11:05 Another Ambo behind that tree.
Heat is definitely one of the best things I added to our rig. Nothing better than being warm and dry on a cold wet day :)
I hope that You get Your Heat Fixed.
A friend bought a ton of those heaters, his trick is to let it run on high or off. He doesnt use the lower speeds and he'll open a window to bring in cool air . Good luck
Very good information for people who are not aware that it gets that cold, were you think it should be warm!!
That's what I thought before we came out here :)
Without a dought,Lefty has his own personality. They all do and just like my dogs they test us to see how far they can go. Enjoy your videos. Especially you and Lefty interacting together❤. Lol
Thank you!
I was in that laundramat in the 90's. Looks the same. Showers were in the back
. 🤣
That's awesome! Yup, showers in the back :)
Order that heater , as for myself I like a little heat early in the morning ,while waiting for the coffee pot to do it's thing. Take care David and Lefty just love how you too hold a conversation.
It's on its way... we need our heat :)
Yep it's cold here today in Virginia , low 30"s with a wind chill in the 20's, stay warm David and Lefty too take care @@TheCampulanceMan
Nice video! If you can afford it, order the new heater and just store it until you need it. Blessings, ~Alice
I carry a spare
For some reason I lost your channel…. Happy to find it again, I’ve loved watching lefty, he’s built up a quality fan club ❤. We love our heater , hate being cold, it’s Saturday here in Australia so lm going to watch your videos today many thanks for the videos,
I'm glad you're back!
Yep get the heater…don’t wait 😄
Another great video and always good to see Lefty.
Get the heater definitely 👍
I want to figure out what is causing these things to make the noises - then we can fix them :) They work so well!
Lol! That's so cute, how you guys talk 😁
I Use a heating pad till I'm toasty....then shut it off......7amps for power use
Heading that way after Christmas.
I would order it even if you don’t use it right away it’s good to have it as a back up .
It's the same in Australia, desserts are freezing at night. Once I had to take the seat covers off the 4wd and wrap them around me to stay alive!
Tanimi dessert if any one wants to look it up, one of the most deselate places on earth
Diesel heaters are amazing! They heat so nicely!
Agreed - I love their dry heat!
I use the Gloy's Heat Pal Swedish alcohol heater and cook stove.
I’m in a tent out here at an LTVA outside of Q…#panchosez. No heater, just each other!
We live a couple hours east of where you're at. After the summer we just had, the cooler weather is welcomed! For peace of mind, I'd get that feater.
I know this weather must feel great after the summer temperatures!
small wood burning stove -want fail/i got mine off amazon-cheap fuel too/dry heat too/and have diesel heater for back up/thanks much
A Plumber that I Watch keeps talking about Biodiesel. His name is Stephen Lav. He has a little Dog that rides in His Work Trucks named MS. MOLLY.
Sounds like maybe the fan bearing is going out. Bearings and fans aren't expensive generally, but if those things use a custom part it might be tough to find a replacement part.
That's what it sounds like - this is the 2nd one that's made these same noises.
Hey David and son "Lefty", I vote for a new heater since I am from Florida and if it's below 60 degrees, I am cold too like your other camper friend. Stay warm, stay safe, behave.
Dude! That’s so funny! I love how expensive Lefty is. Webasto diesel heater’s the best way to go, bro.
lefty was like...uuuhhhhh....i didn't know you were awake...lol
He makes sure I'm awake!!!
It's getting cold this weekend bro. I have a tarantula and had to get her a heating pad and she lives in a cage in a drawer so she is safe , they prefer being alone and safe. ❤
Lefty fixed the heater while you were sleeping!!!
That's why I found a screwdriver on the floor!!!
You guys sound like a herd of Holsteins mooing back and forth 😂. Thanks for the info about the temp there in Quartzite. i want to be a nomad so bad
That's me trying to learn his language :)
I would definitely go ahead and order the new heater. And hang on to it for a backup in case other one quits. That way you won't have to go without heat. That's what I would do.
Great minds think alike! I have a new one here for backup :)
