I can't believe I'm here before this channel explodes. How lucky am I, what a Beautiful video ,genuinely one of the best video game breakdowns I've ever seen. I finished it and then restarted it twice. This is definitely one of my comfort videos from here on out and I can't wait to see what else you make. Artistry.
Surreal Horror is an excellent name for the genre, broad enough to encompass many things and still give the appropriate jist. Surreal Horror, much like surreal art, takes something well-known and mundane and makes it impossible. In art it creates a lot of 'makes you think' kind of pieces or the ones that make your brain angry because *The stairs are all shaded like they're fitting underneath the next set of stairs, but one set HAS to be on top*-- carefully transcribing reality to the page and then altering it so perfectly that the impossible can be *seen,* and you can madden others with the infinite staircase in your head. XD Games are an ideal place to play with Surrealism, imo, because So Close To Real But Wrong is where we find accidental horror in the uncanny valley ALL the time with the pursuit of 1:1 Perfect Mimicking of meat space on a screen. If you know you *can't* make a perfect model of a human that moves and emotes just right... what kind of story can you tell with the model you CAN make and animate? Artists have to *create* surrealism from real world experiences and images. Game Devs can *find it along the way to something else.* That, to me, represents a fertile possibiity space that I hope someone cracks the code on soon :D Excuse my tangent, got excited an wanted to go off about the broader topic XD
