    2 things that may help you guys. 1st, always use an atm inside a bank or mall where there is security. 2nd, after your transactions, you could freeze your card until you need it again so that authentication has to be done which is doubtful for the scamers to achieve

    Sorry for you guys having this happening twice! Yet heads up to you for making this video to create awareness of the problem and doing it in such a cheerful way even..
    I've heard of this type of scamming and watched it on TV. But you always think that's someone else it's happening to and even in the western world oftentimes we are way to careless. This is not a Philippine phenomena only, it happens worldwide. It happens all over here in Europe all the time.
    Great that you're good so far and still seem to have something to survive on.

      I live in a big city in Canada and I never ever heard about such fraud. In the Philippines.: Two times in 3 weeks. That's abnormal.
      I understand your embarrassment + your old tradition of trying to save the face, but can we get real for a minute or two? I've been harassed by strangers so many times with their shenanigans. Philippines is Scamland.

    Here's some of the things my family would do when vacationing in the Philippines. (We live in Los Angeles).
    1. We only take cash from an ATM that is inside a bank.
    2. When eating out, we pay cash as much as possible.
    3. We don't use public wifi. Not even the ones provided in hotels.
    4. As much as possible, we never use taxis. We either use Grab or businesses that provide us a car with a driver and we negotiate the price to pay the driver per hour or day plus mileage.
    5. We choose hotels that are reputable even if they charge us a little bit more.
    6. When visiting remote places, it is best that we are home or at our hotels when it starts to get dark.

      Yes, cash is still king in the Philippines. Whenever I am in the Philippines, I'm always trying to anticipate how much I am going to spend every time I go out. Another thing to worry is being at the wrong place at the wrong time (holdup).

    • @darwinmendoza7061
      @darwinmendoza7061 2 роки тому +1

      Exactly. Since we carry large amounts of cash everywhere we go, we always travel in groups (at least 5). We stay away from questionable places. If we want to go a bar, we choose high end hotel bars with security rather than beer houses where you can be robbed as soon as you step out. If we need to visit relatives in dangerous areas, we bring an armed security guard just in case.

    i dont usually use those machines, but when i do it always seems like i am going to break the machine trying to check for this. even at the gas station i will give the reader and the keypad a good hit and pull to make sure it doesnt have a reader.

  • @GTX311
    @GTX311 2 роки тому +2

    Skimmers can be inserted inside the card reader itself and not necessarily on the bezel. Also, false keyboards are not the only way to get your PIN, tiny cameras can also be used. Always cover up the keypad when entering your PIN, no matter where you are.
    If it's me, I'd open a local bank account. I would then use my foreign bank account app to send money from my overseas account to this local account. I think that this will make it easier to deal with scams and getting replacement cards.

    Its might not be on the atm machine itself. I had amazon prime transactions on an account i never used except on facebook ads campeign. There's a local bank called SecurityBank which allows you to create a separate account where you can place all your savings and keep your main account empty. Once you need cash, just transfer the amount you need to your main account before withdrawing from your ATM. You can all this thru an app.

    There is a simple solution to this. Just send cash to yourself through Remitly or World Remit and pick it up locally. The rates are far lower than using ATMs and scammers don't have access to your card. I prefer Remitly though as the fees are slightly lower, but both work out much cheaper than ATMs, especially for larger amounts.

I'm learning this from other ex-pats and of course, this situation naturally reinforces that idea. Good luck to you guys, that's too bad people do these things. Even in Iloilo, I usually shake the card slot of the ATM to check if there's something on top of it. Then sometimes I'd check the sides even though I use the machine often.

Transfer again little by little into gcash, you can cash out gcash in local store in the streets. Many machines here has a phishing tool that can be use to get your account.

    Most bank accounts allow you to "freeze" or 'lock' a card.
    That's what I would do. 'Un-lock' your card when you need to transact.
    When you're done, 'Lock" your card again. So transactions will be rejected while it's lock.
    Also use a VPN if you are using wi-fi when accessing your accounts.

    Use cash. Withdraw that cash over the counter from the bank, not via an ATM. It may take time but you won't get scammed. I have one card that I have never used. It exists for genuine emergencies, such as a serious accident out in the sticks.

    Report it to the National Bureau of Investigation immediately.If, the ATM machine does not show anything suspicious.The banks management & maintenance should be responsible to secure it.

      Our bank in Canada told us they will be reporting it to the bank fraud authorities in the Philippines with the exact time stamp information

    This is unfortunate, but on the bright side, its something you will never fall for ever again. Imagine if you got scammed later when you with even more money before you find out about these types of scams, at least youve learned about it early on.

    I suggest dont use your foreign cards for now. It happened to me 20 odd years ago where I was also scammed. When I then had it replaced, it was even diverted to another address in the Philippines. I suggest cancel those cards and the apply for a new one or once you can get a bank account then open a local one

    • @BiancaBeyond
      @BiancaBeyond  2 роки тому

      Thankfully the bank confirms the address with us to send them to. The first one we let them send it to us in the Philippines but now 16 days we are waiting for the card, so the second one we had sent to our Canadian address which is Bianca's mom and she can private courier with tracking for us.

      @@BiancaBeyond I am tellng you check even if they confirmed because I did confirm my address and then sometime in the middle, it got diverted to a different local address. I just cancelled the card

      @@BiancaBeyond I suggest you confirm with your bank if the address is still the same. It is worth noting though that if you are sending it to Boracay delays will happen

      @@AntonioSy we have called a couple times to make sure it's on the way and they asked us to confirm the address.

    this raises so many questions for me
    are these machines legit in the first place i.e. are they privately owned? how much money did they get from your account? are there daily limits? did the bank cover your loss? what is an RFID detector and how does that work? can RFID detector be hidden? "check these things" what exactly am I checking about them? how much do you get charged for ATM withdrawals from Canada? where can I get tips on how to be safe and do foreign banking? I'm Canadian. Thanks

    Same happened to me in Bali. Eastern European card skimming gangs set up in Bali. Maybe Philippines now.

    I was told not to use those stand alone ATM Machines to get money. It’s always a good idea to use the ATM machines in banks.

    Scammers are everywhere/anywhere in the world! Ask your bank or credit card company to notify/text you when there is money being withdrawn from your account. The same thing to my credit card, if I use my card, I'll get a text first from the company before they can authorize the charges. I live in Texas, I've been scammed many times too, I don't like all the hassles of waiting for bank approval but it's a great feeling knowing your account is safe from criminals/scammers. Be Safe guys, life is getting harder and there will be more scammers to try to steal your hard-earned money. Take care and God Bless!
