Therapist Reacts to LEAVE ME ALONE by NF

  • Therapist analyzes the lyrics of Leave Me Alone by NF to discuss doubt and the way it can feel like it threatens to overwhelm and consume us. We often spend a lot of energy trying to fight all of our doubt at once, and like the song suggests it can be helpful to face and release the doubt one doubt balloon at a time.

    if you go back and watch the videos visuals, it tells this story:
    of how all of us have our burdens (the black balloons) and wear a mask (the black make-up smile) and wear our black clothes (possibly open to interpretation or i missed something, but to me it feels kind of like self-enforced loneliness or maybe hopelessness)
    all around him are people getting help with these things (remember at the end of the search somebody offered him a set of white clothes) and NF sees people getting their mask washed away, and exchanging their black clothes for white clothes, and getting relief from their burdens by sharing them (like with a therapist)
    and he also sees where he'll wind up if he doesn't seek out this help (the old homeless man in black with the same shopping cart still tied to the same clump of burdens) and finally at the end he has the courage to start the process of letting himself be helped

    I think of so many songs and don't get them down. Though I only make my music for me, so the burden is less than the weight of his song. Yet so good to hear your experience spoken. NF FTW.

    • @HeartSupport
      @HeartSupport  6 місяців тому

      From Lisalovesfeathers: @rickthestick6995 Hi Friend, Thank you for your comment. I know exactly what you mean, I have personally live my life by sticking to my comfort zone and although it has helped my anxiety greatly it has led to me getting past middle age and havng achieved virtually nothing and I dont wish that for you for a moment.
      A question you could ask yourself is do you deserve this and please let me tell you

    • @HeartSupport
      @HeartSupport  6 місяців тому +1

      From jpaga: @rickthestick6995 Hi friend,
      You’ve also perfectly described me there. Due to a mixture of things I tend to avoid stepping out of my comfort zone and stick to my routine. I tend to avoid spontaneous plans and need much time for mental preparation if I am to do something new. I think the problem here is the avoidance. I’m sure you’ve heard this before, but the more we avoid stepping out of our comfort zone and the more we push things away, the more we make things difficult for ourselves. It is completely natural to stick to what we are comfortable with, but it also ends up limiting all of the new experiences we could have! It does take time and effort, but when you are ready, I think that recognizing those moments where you have the option to avoid or embrace a new situation and trying to choose the latter will be beneficial in the long run. It was very hard for me to do at the beginning, I too would get very overwhelmed and regret stepping out of my comfort zone (and still do to some extent), but it does get easier. And most importantly, I know I am making things better for my future self. What you are experiencing is completely understandable and I am willing to bet also quite common, but striving for our growth is so important, and one step at a time, we should always try to do what is best for us even at the cost of some discomfort in the moment. I hope this can help even a little bit, but just know that you are not alone, that I wish you the best, and that we will always be here to listen whenever you need someone <3

    • @HeartSupport
      @HeartSupport  5 місяців тому

      From Micro: @rickthestick6995 Stepping out of your comfort zone requires so much energy out of you. It makes completely sense that, most of the time, it turns out to be an exhausting experience, and something that you wouldn't want to come back to. When you go beyond your limits of the moment, you are actively facing your fears, and that is such a HUGE effort! Something positive though, is to keep in mind that in the midst of the overwhelm, you are learning to stretch those limits. My therapist used to tell me that I worked on extending my comfort zone, rather than stepping out of it. It gives me this image of something that is actively growing, not an experience under parenthesis. When in doubt, and when overwhelmed, it often helped me to remind myself that these experiences accumulated are making a difference, even if I'm not feeling it yet. It's like being head first in the intensity of the work, then at some point you have the possibility to take some distance and see how much you've grown over the years.
      If anything, we're so very proud of you here for not letting your fears define you. You are building resilience, and that is so strong and courageous of you!

    • @HeartSupport
      @HeartSupport  6 місяців тому

      From djstarion: @attilaasd4747 Hello friend!
      You're 100% right about the balloons. It's like since they're balloons we know they're there, and they may not carry any type of physical weight, but it's definitely an emotional weight. I also feel that over time, the helium will be gone, and those balloons will slowly disappear. If we keep doing what we're doing and being open with ourselves and taking care of ourselves, we can build up the courage to release a balloon. I wouldn't say pop it necessarily, but by releasing that mental balloon, you can visually see that progress that you made to get to that point.

      From sbrent: @attilaasd4747 We all have something that is keeping us from pursuing our dreams or going after the things we want in life, but we have to ask ourselves is this thing really as powerful as it seem to be or is it us that has given this thing too much power. I want you to know that you are powerful, and you have the ability to leave whatever is holding you back powerless. Rooting for you!

      From Malig3: @attilaasd4747 Hey there,
      Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. Feeling held back, like a wall is building up between you and your future best self, is difficult and frustrating. So, I hear you; I understand you. The balloons symbolize emotional weight floating around that you can't seem to let go of. I know that time and self-love can heal this. Putting time and energy into yourself and the things that make you happy, will make those balloons seem smaller and smaller. I hope someone or something that makes you laugh/smile crosses your path today. Wishing you the best <3

    Anxiety is a real pain... it does actually protect you but it's not like there is no cost. You can miss out on a lot by taking the easy way out and letting anxiety decide what is and isn't right for you.
    One of my biggest regrets in life so far was not recognizing it sooner, I lost most of my 20's and 30's because of it. I'm thankful in some ways I realized it before it was too late to change anything though so that's what I'm working on :)

"Here For You" extremely beautiful way of saying life will take you where it wants to and he will always be there to support "Even Shadows Have Shadows" is a song about struggles. "Smile" Here is a line to show the magic of this song: But time taught me how to see every second as Heaven, Even though they're perfectly disguised as Hell. This sneaky voice that makes you feel like it's too good to be real, too good to actually last over time. It's this force within that pushes you to feel like you would have to sabotage yourself in order to remain safe. Because ahead of you there's the complete uncertainty of life.
      When you do have things to hold on, things that make your life enjoyable, it makes completely sense to fear losing it altogether. It's this paradox of feeling like the better it gets, the worse it actually becomes, because you also have to deal with the fear of losing everything. Your world might collapse at some point, and just knowing that it is a possibility is enough to make you feel like you would have to be on your guard all the time. So you keep everything in, and when you don't allow yourself to be happy or to embrace the good in your life, it feels like keeping some sense of control over it... and my friend, doing so is profoundly human. It is an understandable reaction.
      I hear you though, about how heartbreaking it is to WANT to free yourself from those fears, but to not being there yet. Over the years, I've come to realize how I'm personally good at sabotaging myself in *not* doing the things I want to because of the fears of the outcome. When your mind tends to think about the worst case scenarios, it's hard to see the world differently.
      Hopefully though, with time, renewed experiences and stretching our comfort zone little by little - not all at once -, we can allow ourselves to have glimpses of experience that contradict those fears. That remind us of how worth it it can be to take risks when it comes to allowing ourselves to *live* the life we desire to have. It takes time, repeated practice, but it is absolutely possible to experience actual growth on this matter. I have no doubt that, at your own pace, you will get there, friend. You see, acknowledge and put words on this pattern that is consuming you - and this level of awareness *is* going to serve you. You will get there, friend. You will embrace what this life has to offer in a way that will feel whole again. These fears and barriers will not get the best of you. :heart:

    @HeartSupport thank you for explaining that what I'm feeling is doubt, but mine is more like a cinder block trying to pull me under the waves and if I give in I might not be able to recover

      From toastaintbad: @marshalt0201 Hi @HeartSupport_Fans,
      Thanks for expressing your concern on HeartSupport. I'm going to support you on whatever you are struggling with. Can you explain to me on what you aren't to recover? You don't have to explain in deeper detail if you aren't comfortable.

      From ManekiNeko: @marshalt0201 My friend I’m sorry to hear that you feel like there is such a heavy milestone around you that feels one moment from pulling you all the way down.
      I know at times when I’m left to constantly fight against my own doubts and that looks like a lead balloon some days.
      Whether it’s doubt or whether it’s another burden that filling in that space, we carry them around with us and often don’t realise the weight until we get to the point of so much exhaustion.
      I can relate that if it gets to the point where these doubts, these burdens, these lead balloons get too much and they drag you down that there may not be a way out again. I think that’s one reason why it’s been such an important goal to have an amazing support system. I don’t know what yours looks like right now, but it can be all the difference. There’s still days where the balloons pull me down, but I’ve got firm hands on all sides to reach out to.
      To some that looks like professional support, to others it means having a few close friends nearby to say “I’m not doing great right now”. It doesn’t mean you have to dump the full load out, especially if you’re not ready to, but it does mean that there are people who are aware that you’re struggling to keep treading the deep waters.
      The cinderblocks do not have to be yours alone to bear. At times it feels like we are undeserving of allowing ourselves to feel relief even for a moment. No matter what weight you are carrying right now, you deserve to be heard and to have that relief x

    Fame is part of that doubt that tells him that “the song sucks.” And for him to send Fame a song called “Leave Me Alone,” speaks right to who Nate is as an artist. He doesn’t do this for the fame, it’s his therapy!!!
