a clever use of space and inspirational for my new layout where ive had to reduce my 8x3 to something a bit smaller, hope it turns out as good as yours!
Nice update, I think the changes have improved the layout. However, as this is a British outline layout, I would replace the cable car with a miniature Boris Johnson in a yellow helmet & waving the Union Jack! LOL. 😁
hi there! I've been planning a small N layout, the one thing I can't work out is what points to use, set track or streamline. I'm not arsed about being prototypical etc. just want something to have some fun with. spoke to a few people and they said avoid ST points like the plague. This is the second vid I've seen with ST points being used and haven't spotted a problem! as a ST points user, what are your thoughts and advice be on the matter? thanks in advanced! :)
Nice upgrade! New points going toward the engine house, and several new buildings and structures to the right side of layout. The tram is really a nice touch. Now that I looked at your earlier version I can see how it all comes apart for storage. To bad you use it only a few times a year, this is a nice layout and needs to RUN! What is the structure by the engine house. For coal? Loader or storage? Did you just start laying track and plan as you kept going or use a software program to make up the layout? This plan would make me very happy to run trains on. Thanks for you videos, very inspiring.
Again, thanks Alan for the good feedback!! my grandfather built it when I hadn't been born, but he died so I can't ask him any questions . In 1999 my dad converted it from z gauge to an n gauge after he did that he put it away for a couple of years but then we got it out and started playing with it and then after a while we started improving it and soon we're going to get it out and improve it more. Can you think of any changes we could do to improve it. Thank you. 😁😀😎🙂👍
Well for the operating I want to do, freight BTW, no passenger trains, I would place a crossover between the double loop at the end towards the engine house so you would have a runaround track to make and break trains. The made up consist could then be moved by your loco to the outside track that comes to a dead end. But your dead end track is really not a dead end just pretend that it is an interchange track that a passing train would come by and pick up the cars to go wherever. Then your next operating day you could use the cars on the interchange tracks as inbound and pull the cars to your inner main ovals and break the train down and switch the cars to their respective customers. That is my take as a freight hauler. And you can do the roundy- round train operation as well to pack on the miles. This really is a cool layout for such a small size. I am restricted by space to your size track plan, so for me I could do a good bit of railroading per session. You see the two outside tracks that SEEM to end have a crossover down the track and the train could cross over and back up to pick up the extra cars to be delivered far far away to another.......oops got away with my dreaming. Do I make any sense? Also you did a nice job on the buildings and landscaping. Thanks for sharing your layout with all youtubers and railfans.
Sorry I hadn't got back to you so soon. Its because we had a long flight coming back from holiday but anyhow that sounds very cool I might change it like that soon but sounds like a lot of money. Do you like the painting on the background, which my dad painted, as I think it looks a bit weird and it doesn't really match with the rest of the build. Did you notice the stones underneath the track are different and in the yard where all the the trains stay are different. We took it all apart to do this. Thanks Alan for the amazing feedback you've been giving us it makes us feel really happy. Ps sorry if I don't name anything right as hardly know anything. Bye 😁👍😎😄

Excellent layout, what are the dimensions of your layout?
Do you have track plans

Great update to an already great layout. But please slow down to make it more realistic. Trains don’t zip through cities at 200 mph.
