    This channel was a great help during my recent marathon training block for the Missoula Marathon 6.30.24. I was able to reach my goal of sub five hours!

    Hey coach, just got back from my 2nd 5k.
    Ended up running 21:36 vs goal of 21:30. The course was brutal as it had multiple long up hill slopes. My watch said exactly 21:30 but I guess I didn't run the tangents as I did have to weave around a lot of people since there was over 700 runners. Overall, I'm not thrilled but happy with the progress. Last month I ran a 22:16 on a much flatter course. No more 5ks for a while as my next race is a 10k on July 27th. Never ran one before so I'll definitely be going through your archives for tips. Thanks for all you do

      Congratulations Patrick on dropping that 21:36. You are definitely making some considerable improvements. Also, racing in hot and humid conditions..imagine how fast you'll run when its 55-60 degrees F again. Well done

    Oh, great that you mention taking a marathon as a long run, Nate… I’m just about to do that and I’m a bit nervous about resting but still being able to peak for the big one. Does it sound sensible to you to run Mexico City Marathon on August 25th, at a 90% effort and with no prior tapering, then a week of total rest, then resume hard specific training for 3 weeks, then a proper 1 week tapering and to run all-out in Berlin on sep 29th? I’m 50, with a 3:26 PB (i.e. just about to BQ)

    • @rundreamachieve
      @rundreamachieve  День тому

      I think you have a solid plan there but I wouldn't even ai for 90% effort at Mexico City, more like 75% effort than focus all your attention for Berlin. VERY well done having already dropped that 3:26 PB. You are going to get that BQ soon. Keep up the superior work brother!

      Thank you so much for your encouraging reply and your expert advice! I’ll do just as you say, and I’ll come back after the races to share how this strategy worked out 🤟🏼

    Do marathoners look down upon shorter distance runners ?

    • @rundreamachieve
      @rundreamachieve  2 дні тому +1

      I sure hope not Lean, mid distance runners can teach us slow twitch runners a LOT.

      @shaylorcyclingwahoolecol8313 День тому +1

      I’d say no. Almost all marathoners run shorter distances too at other times of year and cycles of training, so no I can confidently say 99% wouldn’t. In fact since I became a marathoner I’m more conscious not to scare other people off running by being intimidated by the gap they see

    Last week i ran 5k pb 19.40..but after taking 7 days rest due to illness my 5k time was 22.20min....any idea why my fitness goes away quickly?

    • @rundreamachieve
      @rundreamachieve  2 дні тому +1

      GREAT job dropping both of those times...it is just being away for a bit which throws fitness off somewhat..usually another solid 4 weeks of training will put you back where you were at prior to taking the time off. Keep up the superior work!
