DIY Refinished Patio Chairs

- Shout out to my mom for passing on her old patio chairs! They needed a little spray paint and they are like new again! I used cheap $1.00 per can spray paint from Walmart on the mesh and a nicer textured spray paint for the metal to give it all a nice finish. A couple coats of clear over the spray paint and the chairs were like new again!

This whole project just came out great I’m still in love with that table!
As always AWESOME IDEA THANK YOU for SHARING LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE the way these turned out.. Shannon you're so creative
The chairs came out looking brand new! Spray paint is amazing!
Outstanding job looks brand new...
Perfect! Looks brand new!
What a great makeover, looks like a different set...job well done.
What a difference! Lovely job Shannon. I enjoy all your videos and look forward to them each day. Thank you! Penny
Thank you!! I was going to trash my patio this week. My new DIY for this week.
I just found your video. Thank you for providing alternative to replacing the fabric.
Nice job!!! Just like new!
Came out fantastic!
Table came out beautiful and the chairs they both look brand new.
Really loving the table.
I can't wait to so this. My chairs are red and I've always wanted them to be black.
Crazy, what TLC along with soap n water and a few cans of spray paint can do. We had citywide trash pickup. Amazing what ppl will throw out. Here were my kids and I digging thru the trash in the pouring rain. 😂 But we found some nice stuff that I can’t wait to transfer. Have you tried the comfort grip by rustoleum? It helps keep your trigger finger from cramping while spray painting. Take care and tfs! ❤️
You are amazing! Table and chairs look like new.
Aw! Thank you!
Does the paint on the mesh part get on clothes?
Do you still have this furniture? Did it hold up well after spray painting? Any issues with paint wearing off on clothing? I know it’s been 3 years but if possible please respond. Thank you!!
Great questions! I would love to know also. For a project of my own. 🥰
I was wondering the same and reviewed other comments. This was posted 4 years ago. 2 years ago she commented they were holding up well. Someone asked about the mesh and she also commented 5 months ago the mesh was holding up still at that point 👍
@@andreat373 thank you!! 💕
It’s all on the back of my hookers thighs… any video on how to remove!?
for all those that are asking,in Comment 38 one year ago she says the chairs are still great
Great video I'm currently trying to figure out the best way to pain my chairs.
Beautiful
Awesome job! Tyfs. 😊
beautiful
I don’t understand. You show the textured spray can then the mesh spray can but in the video you are spraying the whole chair with the same can. Can you put a step by step as it’s difficult to see what is being sprayed and where! And how many cans did you purchase for the 4 chairs?
This!!! I watched 3 times and was so confused!
I have a question, I have a set I’m wanting to do this with bet the mesh has like designs of leafs in them would spray paint cover those?
Great Job Thanks.
Hello, so I'm going to do this same project. Do I wait till the water is dry? Then start the process???? Starting this project this week!
Thanks for this video it's the only video that I can find with mashed chairs I think I'm doing this today please tell us how everything has held up over the past two years.
Same here. I can't seem to find much on line about painting mesh chairs. I'm curious if you ended up painting yours, and if so, how they held up?
Love the refurbishment! For those trying this at home, be aware your spray paint WILL drift into your and your neighbors' gardens, garages, vehicles -- and can kill a variety of helpful insects and birds if they inhale or become coated in the paint... Be sure to put some extra drop cloths up as "walls" on 2-3 sides when you get started (and then pull the down for the drying phase if you want). Even if you think it's not windy, your paint WILL drift due to the nature of spray paints. ;)
What do you mean by " pull the down"? The chair?
@@tajn239 I think she meant “pull them down” the drop cloths.
how long do you wait before spraying on the clear top at the end?
I'm wondering if the paint rubs off on light clothing.
What would you do if you have to replace the mesh?
Love it! Thanks! WNt to do my own! Advice on how many cans per chair?
How do I stop rust from leaking out from legs of this type of chair. The chairs are in great shape but somehow water gets inside and come out with rust on concrete? HELP
is there any need to put tape etc to protect metal paint going onto the fabric side ?
Hi! Did you ever find the paint on the mesh would transfer to people's clothing??
Did you adda clear coat to the fabric?
About how many cans of paint did you use on the 2 chairs?
I didn’t realize you can use the same paint for the mesh seat. Will the colour transfer to clothes?
How did they hold up over time?
How long did the paint last on the mesh part?
wow looks amazing!!
Such a great idea! Never thought of spray painting mesh!! Your so smart in your young age lol
Aw! Thanks! :)
How long did it take to dry ?
There are so many unanswered questions. I can't seem to find any info on line about how the paint holds up on the mesh part.
1. Did the paint hold up on the mesh part?
2. Did the seats feel stiff or anything?
3. Is there anything you'd do differently?
Thank you for sharing! I have these chairs that I bought from a yardsale real cheap along with the table. I didn't know whether I could paint that mesh. I'm going to do this. The transformation is beautiful!
Hello, did you try doing this, how did it turn out and did last?
@@cassiebee872 yes I did try it. It lasted about 2 years. We sit on the chairs alot and the paint rubbed off. I've had to retouch several times. It looked like a brand new set.
Thank you
Did you just use fabric paint or regular? In the video she used 2 sprays but what about over spray? Does that matter?
What spray did you use on the fabric and did you also use the clearcoat on the fabric?
Hi Shannon. You are using the hammered finish on the metal, how did you not get it on the mesh? Also, I realize this is an older video but I have similar chairs that I want to paint. How has this held up? If you still have it.
What paint did you use where?
Did your paint bubble? Mine did :(
Troubleshooting what I did wrong..
Great video, chairs look phenomenal. Thanks for sharing. Question - how long did it last 2, 3 years?
How many cans of paint did it take to do your chairs
I don't know how you can spray the arms and legs without covering the mesh.
Hi, is this just any black spray paint not for fabric?
Did the paint come off at all?
Great video. Is the paint a primer and paint in one?
Anyone tackling this project might want to use a mask. If you've ever worn one while spray painting you will see how much paint you would otherwise breathe in. Please...safety first!!!!
I just told my Husband it was time to respray our metal outdoor furniture. It has been 5 yrs since I sprayed them.
Yours look great!
Such a great way to save money vs. buying new again! Best wishes with your project!
How do they look today?
How have these held up 2 years later? Photos? Recommendations based on hindsight? Thank you! Beautiful design choices.
I’d like to know too! Please, respond, Daily DIYer!
More than likely it chipped after a season...
I want to know, too! I have almost identical chairs and want to paint the sling mesh bit my husband thinks the paint will flake and rub off over time. Certainly don’t want it getting on people when they sit in my chairs.
I just bought a set that needs some love.
how did this holdup ?
Hey, yeah, that’s exactly what I’d like to know. With normal outdoor wear and tear.. when using the seats does it wear off etc... please let us know!! Thank you.
How did the paint on the fabric hold up? I've done the metal before, but not the fabric
Wondering the same. Have a new set that I got for a great price but it's brown and I'd like it to be gray.
Looks pretty good! My question is how did you use 2 different paints without taping anything off or spray over to each surface?? why not use a black fabric outdoor spray?
I'm wondering the same thing, especially with the metal paint at the end. It seems that and the paint choice would affect the flexibility of the chair's sling fabric.
Great job! Does anyone know where I could purchase the seating "fabric"? We have chairs made of this same rype of material but our puppy chewed the seats up!! 😜 We still have the frames, though, and would love to be able to repair them so they are usable! Thanks for any suggestions!!
Mary Elizabeth Halbrook there’s an online company call Trivantage that we use to get Sunbrella fabric for T-tops for boats. I almost think you could buy a new chair for what the fabric will cost though. However, it is good to save something from the landfills and it will be a fun (hopefully) experience.
Lisa Hancock Guthrie, thanks so much! I'll look into it.
Chair Care Texas (Dallas). Tons of fabrics installed or sold online.
Did your chairs feel sticky and weird after you sprayed them like the mesh bit? Also did you use clear coat on the mesh? I did mine 2 days ago and they are still feeling tacky but are dry...
Did yours end up drying??
Question so they make spray paint that supports both fabric and metal? iNTERESTING. yOUVE GIVEN ME A WONDERFUL PROJECT TO DO
The fabric is plastic based so you need the paint that is specifically used for plastics
Looks great but will the paint run off on my white summer outfit?
Nope!!
I didn't know you could paint the mesh/sling on a patio chair. Has it or will it rub off?
Still holding up ❤️
@@TheDailyDIYer Re: Painted Mesh: EVERYONE is asking- did/does the painted mesh rub off?? I’m about to embark on this project but don’t want to waste my money if it’s going to damage my clothes!
are these chip and waterproof?
Yes they’ve held up perfectly
How did the spray paint on the seats hold up?
Held up great for years after this
How many cans of each type of spray was needed for two chairs ? I want to do this for mine !
I don’t think she answers
She answered in another comment. She used 6-8 cans.
I’m doing 8 chairs exactly like hers. Using 2 cans of paint for each chair. Just starting so not sure about clear yet- thinking close to 2 cans each there as well.
👍
Did the spray paint make the mesh feel bad/weird?? I never would have thought u cld spray the mesh too! So I'm hoping no😂
Yeah Does it feel funny after?? 🙃
Interested in knowing this too
I would be afraid the paint on the chair back and seat might transfer onto clothing.
I have the exact same chairs! This is my next project, turned out lovely, thanks for sharing! May I ask how many cans of paint you used in total? I live in Canada and it won't be as cheap Lol
It was not cheap cheap here either. That’s why I bought $1 cans for the mesh and the higher priced hammered metal for the arms. It did help with the cost. I’d say 6-8 cans total.
How did the paint hold up on the mesh. Lots of ppl asked you that question but you never answered back. I would assume they didn’t hold up.
🥰
Thought you used two colors? Looks like youre spraying the mesh and the chair all with the same pain to me, hot trying to keep from over spraying.
I think she just used a paint specific for metal and another paint for the mesh fabric. Both same color though.
I'm late to the comments but I have pretty much the same chairs. How many cans of each spray paint did you need?
Did she ever answer this?
@@KnottyPetie no she didnt .but I must have used like 10
What kind of spray paint?
It’s in the video’s first minute
My channel will give you an entire new light to plastic chairs.
How did you know the paint would not rub off on your clothes?
We let them cure in the sun for a week before we actually used them. No problems with that at all
The chairs came out nice, and I don't mean to criticize, but that's a $20 chair at home Depot, Target or Lowe's, and spray paint ain't cheap.
20x 4 paint is like under $4 and I used less than two can to paint four chairs. I think I won in the $$ department but to each it’s own. Some want colors that are just not for sale so why not redo them like you want.
@@sybilthompson7130 so you think i can use 2 cans for 4 chairs i want to do mines but someone was telling me its like 1 can for each chair?
