  • Adenium is a desert rose which is very easy to grow and care. But very few people know how to make its Potting mix and how to take care of it. Here a elaborate tutorial is given . It can be followed by everyone. The process is given in step by step instructions for your convenience. Now Adenium Growing has been made easy for you. Happy Gardening.
    Growing media for Adenium:
It varies from place to place depending on the availability of the component materials.Whatever the potting mix may be it should be well drained and sufficiently porous. The soil should not hold much water ,otherwise root rot will occur. The potting mix may contain - Sand,Gravel,Garden soil,Charcoal,Cocopeat, leaf mould,Vermiculite,
Perlite,Cowdung compost etc in different proportions according to the need.
    Light Requirement:
Since Adenium is desert plant,it needs enough and open sunlight to grow well. It needs at least 6 hours to grow well. However if the temperature is mi\ore than 45 degree Celsius keep it under shade.
    Fertilizer to be used:
Do not need much fertilizer. If you put Compost or Leaf mould in potting mix ,that will work well. However,In flowering season you may add Low nitrogen content NPK like 10-15-15 in a very small amount that is 10 granules dissolved in water apply once in a week. In addition to that you may also add % granules of Pottash dissolved in water once in a week in a plant.
    To Get BIg Caudex:
For obtaining big caudex grow plants which are made from seeds. Repot the plant every year in a bigger pot with keeping the caudex one inch higher. However, for getting fatty caudex you have to prune the plant once or twice a year.
Native Area:The Plant is native to Sub Saharan Africa and Arabian Peninsula.
    Nature of the Plant:
There are mainly two species. Namely, Adenium obesum and Adenium arabicum. It is commonly calledas Desert Rose.It is a species of flowering plants which is evergreen in nature and drought resistant.
Thanks a lot from Gardening Is My Passion.

Thank you for your informative videos. I have 4 adeniums, they were doing great until winter came. The bottom part of the caudex is still hard, it begins to get mushy as you go up the plant to the branches. I've read a number of different things to try. Once I came across your videos, I didn't want to read any more suggestions of others. I would grea toy appreciate your thoughts. I live in Macon, Ga USA. Thank you

    Dr. Surja,
Thank you for your various videos on growing adenium from seeds to adult plants.
I have consulted them and gained a good knowledge which I applied successfully,
as my seeds are now three to four months baby plants.
I also have an adult plant which I bought before I learned about your methods.
There is one thing that keep reminding me of endangering the plants, over watering,
all this is because if the soil at the roots area becomes waterlogged, the plant will rot.
Now I seek this clarification from you.
If I spray my plants , on the plant itself, and letting not much water into the soil would that be a very safe way of watering,
and also , would the plant also absorb water through the caudex and the leaves, other than through the roots.
    Thank you .

hi , can you do a video that is easy and effective for pollination or cross pollination for adenium? many videos i saw online use the cut up method which is not easy to find the pollen and stick to another flower. and there is no follow up on the seed pods thereafter. would appreciate one from you, thanks

Dr Agarwal it's another excellent video. Plz do ans my queries.
1-Some of my adeniums are shedding too many yellow leaves although they are flowering too, I am definitely not over watering them. But with blooms and seed pods on them should I give them a little more water.
2- one of my grafted adenium used to give Triple petal flower but now it gives just double petal. What could be the reason?
