I was considering getting the 3080 as an upgrade from my 1080 Ti but after all the delays I'm now looking forward to AMD's big navi announcement this week. It all comes down to price/performance. I would like to play 4K without fiddling around with settings all the time.
Interesting, these stock delays may work to AMD's advantage if RX 6000 proves to be worthwhile. Definitely a wise move to weigh things up on both sides!
Based on the recent leaks ir seems like for 1080p and 1440p high refresh rate gaming big navi would be better as ampere doesn’t scale well on lower resolutions. For 4k it seems like a game by game basis on which will be better. With ray tracing it’s gonna be a crushing win for ampere which is becoming more important due to the next gen consoles which will bring a lot of ray tracing support for next gen games.
@@thephantom9080 i agree ampere should be the clear winner when it comes to ray tracing but you have to take into consideration that both next gen consoles that are pushing ray tracing are both using amd cpu and amd gpu so you could argue that games going forward may be better optimised for amd going forward

I will say I was most pleasantly surprised with the rgb lighting, especially the way the led’s cast a halo effect on the fans, it looks superb and is easily the best looking implementation of the 3090 I’ve seen from any AIB yet. The performance of course is superb and it doesn’t run that warm either. Mine seems to peak at around 2040mhz and regularly sits at around 1965mhz as a constant and ticks along at 65-68 deg C under load. I would like to see Asus release a revised Bios with an increased power limit of at least 500W and ideally 520W as at the moment many owners are flashing these cards with the 500W evga bios, but I’m holding fire in the hope Asus will do so soon. No coil whine at all on mine thankfully and after repasting this card with grizzly kryonaut I can say that the temps haven’t improved at all so it seems that Asus did actually use decent thermal paste this time which is a first for some time. I have to say after having this around a month now I don’t regret the purchase at all and I can say that I’d buy it again and recommend anyone honking of buying this to get it - if they can find one. I’m not sure why Asus is struggling to get these to retailers in numbers, is it demand or simply lack of supply? Who knows, but it is worth the wait I can assure you
I love the ASUS ROG Strix 3090. All though I need to be honest: I had to return my gpu for repair due to the fans starting to make a raspy sound once the fans turn on and off. Apperantly other owners have the same issue, but some doesn't. Hopefully I get my card fixed or get an replacement. I really do love the design and performance of the Strix.
Have one too and my starts buzzing / rattling at 70°C and fan speed of 70-82%. This is so sad... It took me so long to get finally one and now this. Very disappointing for the BEST Card they offer.....

Had this on "Notify Me" e-mail notification from Mwave here in Sydney since mid November last year and then...it happened...Got the confirmation e-mail late Friday night that they had the Asus Strix RTX 3090 OC available in stock on their website...Did..Not..Hesitate to slam down $3,399.00 Aussie Smackah Roonies to be 1 of a few to own this beast of a GPU. Arrives sometime on Monday. So so looking forward to thrashing the Befungus! out of all the games installed on my rig...
are these all at stock speeds? what is the fps using the full potential of the card at 480w and maxed manual oc? it's pretty much the entire point of buying strix ..
Tech guru did a way more detailed written review and found that maxing power and pushing the clock 75mhz higher only netted about 2-3% more over the stock strix oc settings and it draws about 90 watts more around 480. Not worth
Bought a 10900K and Asus ROG Strix 3090 build. Poxy shortages was doing my head in. Ended up with a prebuilt just to get one otherwise would have done it myself. I agree its excessive for gaming but the extra few frames are apparently good enough to power FS2020 at 4K on Ultra and that was my target. Cyberpunk also looks like it will be helped by a few extra frames over the 3080. This card looks superb. I'd love to know whether you agree with some other posts I have read about the caps on Zotak and Gigabyte cards being insufficient? I would also like to know if anyone has had any issues with the Palit 3080 as I had one and had pixelation (asset defects) when using HDR and a flickering line across the screen after only a few days of use. I ended up sending the machine back as a result. Any comments appreciated?

I went with a Founders 3090. I love the look of it in my Lian Li O11 Dynamic case. Huge card but it looks good when you can see it from the top as it sits lower in the O11 Dynamic as opposed to a case with the power supply shroud on the bottom where the card would sit relatively higher.
one question . I recently assembled a system whose graphics card is this model. The case is off but three red lights on the connectors are on. What do these red lights indicate? I saw on UA-cam that the lights are flashing. What are the indicators if they are blinking?
I have the white 680x too, and while I absolutely love it, there's not quite enough clearance for the vertical GPU mount to fit my Strix 3090. It fits, but thermals are 8-10 degrees worse because the fans are so close to the glass. Have you experienced this with either the strix or other 3090 models? I'm curious if the FTW3 Ultra would have that issue, as it's a little bit thinner of a card.
I'm still rocking the 2080 Ti here and it's just a double slotter (isn't tight against the side) my temps are fine. 8-10 degrees is significant. Such a shame they didn't add more depth on this side.
my STRIX RTX 3090 OC runs hot over clocked it can hit 75c to 80c there's a problem with the contact plat of the cooler to the pcb and have seen others report the same problem
I have a PNY 3090. I can oc it to +110 on gpu and +400 on memory. I have yet not been able to go above 60c. Plus it runs up to 2100 mhz. I am very impressed with it!!
In my city 3090 is the easiest one to score, specially the strix with the highest pricetag. Not a lot wants em compare to the other 30 series card. I got mine in less than 2 weeks of waiting

I just got one from microcenter, works great except 1/2 of the rgb strip is not working. Seen a lot of fixes but none worked. Got a return window all the way out to the 21 of January so i will see if I can get ahold of a 6900xt at launch

It is the recommended minimum, probably depends on the other shit you're going with it. If custom-building a computer from scratch, may be able to upgrade to a larger GPU for minimal, if an existing with 850W I'd say give it a try. If in California, make sure to hide your computer before they come for it.

Having that card as the White model, prior a Ryzen 7 3800XT, and now a Ryzen 7 5800X (which is equivalent to, sometimes slower, sometimes faster than a i9 10/11900K): depending on the game (cpu/gpu/both focused), performance is a lot better/higher with this cpu. And i can safely guess it's not the limit, and the 3090 could&will take advantage of even faster future cpu's. Dearly love my Asus TUF 3070 (in my second pc), but the Strix 3090 is really something unearthly good (3090 performance and then something more + the best possible board components used, build quality, cooling etc., which obviosuly dictates the highest rrp of all 3090'ies). And the essentially best part, that no benchmark can capture, and you only perceive while actually using it: due to way too much VRAM, and it's speed (the Mem Modules are rated for 21gbps btw, 19,5 is just on the safe side), there are not the slightest of micro stutters, and just an awesome experience how buttery and silky smooth anything@any setting runs. Even more so with a full G Sync Monitor. If i use a 3080 (had the chance) or 3070 side by side, you notice that difference (that can't be shown on a chart). Price? Huge. Smart to do? Only if you can afford it. Experience? Simply yes. On a ridiculous/priceless category level...
Trying to run two in an ATX board and SLI means you get virtually zero space between the cards and then airflow is non-existent and heat is crazy. Disappointing!
I'm being held up from finishing my new PC Build by not being able to purchase this video card plus an Asus Rog Crosshair VIII Dark Hero mobo and AMD Ryzen 9 5950X cpu !!!! I'm sitting on a pile of cash waiting to buy these three components but AMD and Asus won't allow me to have them or give them my money. Day one with this card the fans are locked at 100%, no fixes for it. If you're thinking of getting this card my advice is get the TUF instead. Just wish they did a Matrix version! On the positive side it performs great, especially with the Valve Index. I was using over 12GB of memory on the 3090 which is well over what the 3080 has. If you want a card great for VR now (when in stock) get one, if you can't wait wait for the Ti. If you don't care about VR get a 3080.
@@pltatman1 Yes, software control didn't work, this card is seriously loud with the fans running 100%. I bought a whole new system. The seller was only covering the parts for 1year. So I sent it back for a refund. I have the TUF now. Pretty much the same performance only with no fan problems. I would have bought the ROG Strix OC again if it was in stock but the TUF seems fine. So far so good.
Strix wins no matter what. It’s base boost is 1860mhz over the TUF which uses reference clocks only around 1680mhz base boost. So the TUF can fall a lot more when gpu boost 2.0 isn’t active
@@ultimategodgohan804 it can boost to that yes that’s called gpu boost 2.0 but out of the box the base boost frequency is what the card will default boost to in 3D apps. Then it detects if it has thermal and power headroom and will attempt to boost higher to the 1900+range this is all nvidia gpu’s not just Asus cards. It’s an nvidia tech. The factory oc simply applies to the starting boost clock and where the card moves from there, the strix starts out much higher than the TUF. It should be obvious the strix is far more premium than the TUF
I was gonna buy the 3090 Asus Strix ROG on the Bestbuy website but, as soon as I refreshed the page at exactly 12:00AM it went from coming soon to sold out. I don't want to wait tell 2021 February or later so I will must likely just go RNDA2 6900XT. Nvidia will have superior software though so I don't know.

FTW3 Ultra is reported to be quieter and cooler than this. It's strange how their 3080 Strix was above everyone else.

Alot better its the best 3090 variant however it is not the most quietest.
Hey brett, it beats the FE with about 3-7%. When overclocking you can push that to 10-15% faster! Its a beast!

What temps does your 2080ti run at on idle? I have the 2080 super and it runs at 55C on idle…

Trying to run two in an ATX board and SLI means you get virtually zero space between the cards and then airflow is non-existent and heat is crazy. Disappointing!

@@Vortez G9 5120X1440 Actually. Got the Strix 3090 oc few days ago. Beast really but there is a big issue with the latest nv Driver and the monitor at 240 HZ. Cannot select 240hz at the moment screen goes black. Will have to wait for drv updates :))

Day one with this card the fans are locked at 100%, no fixes for it. If you're thinking of getting this card my advice is get the TUF instead. Just wish they did a Matrix version! On the positive side it performs great, especially with the Valve Index. I was using over 12GB of memory on the 3090 which is well over what the 3080 has. If you want a card great for VR now (when in stock) get one, if you can't wait wait for the Ti. If you don't care about VR get a 3080.

@@pltatman1 Yes, software control didn't work, this card is seriously loud with the fans running 100%. I bought a whole new system. The seller was only covering the parts for 1year. So I sent it back for a refund. I have the TUF now. Pretty much the same performance only with no fan problems. I would have bought the ROG Strix OC again if it was in stock but the TUF seems fine. So far so good.

Strix wins no matter what. It’s base boost is 1860mhz over the TUF which uses reference clocks only around 1680mhz base boost. So the TUF can fall a lot more when gpu boost 2.0 isn’t active

@@ultimategodgohan804 it can boost to that yes that’s called gpu boost 2.0 but out of the box the base boost frequency is what the card will default boost to in 3D apps. Then it detects if it has thermal and power headroom and will attempt to boost higher to the 1900+range this is all nvidia gpu’s not just Asus cards. It’s an nvidia tech. The factory oc simply applies to the starting boost clock and where the card moves from there, the strix starts out much higher than the TUF. It should be obvious the strix is far more premium than the TUF

I was gonna buy the 3090 Asus Strix ROG on the Bestbuy website but, as soon as I refreshed the page at exactly 12:00AM it went from coming soon to sold out. I don't want to wait tell 2021 February or later so I will must likely just go RNDA2 6900XT. Nvidia will have superior software though so I don't know.
If you can wait, see how RX 6000 compares to RTX 30 series. There may be some surprises!
The drivers for BigNavi will be solid but you are right on the software....Nvidia has a lot of nice add-on software people are very interested in.

Ouch! That's extortionate. Demand for these new cards is so high and supply is very low. Hopefully in the coming weeks it will improve as that's a long time to wait.
