The violin in this trailer is INCREDIBLE.
Welcome to the world of soundtrack scores.
ZcrAyZ why are they called 'scores' though ? That has always confused me
Yoni true
Awesome Melody
It's about average.
This trailer with this music may be one of the best things I have seen this year.

Jean Pageau life saver
Trailer is good but i just watched the movie and its complete shite
HiloBorn 808 Yea not going to lie , the movie was complete garbage.
Skip Bayless!!!
That scene when Chiron comes in classroom and hit the chair on his friend damn that was satisfied scene
I second you !!

This is one of the most beautiful films that has ever been made. Ever. The music, cinematography, directing, screenplay, casting, acting... A fucking masterpiece. Every scene was intimate and heartbreaking and honest and immense. thank you to the artists
exactly what i was thinking about
absolutely, watched twice in the span of 23 days
@Iman Firdaus la la land was so boring
@Iman Firdaus nah
totally, that scene when the young successfull dealer opens his heart and admits he is just being hard outside is breathtaking
I appreciate that this trailer did not have a hip hop soundtrack.
you don't like hiphop? Oh is it that you're happy it's not stereotypical
Maybe it's because of the ballet in the trailer. Who is he? He's different and that's why the music is different. But if you just hate hip hop in trailers in general then you're just ignorant. I only say that because a ton of people talk bad about hip hop even if the lyrics fit the trailer. They'll say something like they hate thug music and so on but the song isn't about that. They'd know if they'd actually listen. That's just my little rant on those people but the music is a good choice here.
I like good, intelligent hip hop that isn't all about making money, doing drugs, and treating women like objects. I do think hip hop in trailers is overused and obnoxious, especially when it doesn't fit; Ben Hur comes to mind. It's original and refreshing to not hear hip hop music blaring during a trailer for a movie with a predominantly black cast. It goes against stereotype and that's what I dig.
I think that the 'DL Chronicles' should get a mention for being the first to use classical music as the soundtrack in a filmed black gay story in episode 'Boo'.That shows creators mention in the dvd commentary that they deliberately did not want to use hip hop as it would have been too stereotypical and cliche. In fact I'm wondering if the producers for 'Moonlight' were inspired by their approach ?
There is hip-hop in the movie though, a part of the movie takes place in Miami during the 90's.
People are doing a disservice to this film by saying its just a "black lgbt" film. It's much more than that. Not a heavy handed political film at all. It's just a brilliant film period.
What kind of question is that? You go around asking for approval to not like things? Grow a pair.
Lance Clearman that is a 'go watch the movie and think by yourself'
SmackedyGaming I'm scared of watching it 'cause I'm so hyped. I hope I like it as much as I want to like it. But really, do you think it's a classic already, a "must watch" or do you think people will just forget it after the Oscars?
For some, calling it a "black lgbt" film is what they need, even though of course it is more than that, it is still a very important factor to certain people.
Honestly, I had read about it a long time ago, but had forgotten about the title of the movie. Now I saw the trailer and almost at the end of it I remembered it was also about lgbt. And by then, I was super interested already, it does seems like so much more than that, and now I really want to watch it, cause I hate how when a movie character is gay/lesbian, that is all, like, everything revolves around it and there is no depth beyond that. Seems about time.
i watched this movie and call me by your name both in the same day in my house and im depressed now
Call me by tour name was good but sad
This is ultimately a very hopeful movie. I hope you're not depressed anymore.
same
I did the same thing... Watched both movies in the same day.. There's no words invented yet to describe what I felt afterwards!! 😩
im about to do the same shit lol
The adult Chiron is just an absolutely beautiful man. His quiet way, a man of few words but with so much churning just under the surface. Still waters ...
Have watched the third act so many times, and each time, its nuanced reflections of loneliness, regrets, longings and second chances - the bond between the men so deep, enduring and undeniable - are profoundly human and moving. Just superlative. Even the way it won the Oscars made it even more unique and memorable. An exquisite piece of art. Thank you to all involved on its creation.
This deserved more likes
Yooooo same
Shoowww
Beautifully put!
He absolutely nailed it.
Mahershala Ali better get a nomination for this role. I don't care if he was only in the film for like 15 minutes. He stole every minute of it.
Jose A. Mendoza-Huijon I love his part in house of cards too, great actor👍🏼
he steals every scene in luke cage as well, such a good actor
Jose A. Mendoza-Huijon YESSS HE DID!!!🙌🏾
+The Stallion His character in Luke Cage was boring generic gangster.
Yeah Brad Pitt was only in 12 Years a Slave for like 7 minutes and he won best actor
This is what a trailer should be. It doesn't show or spoil the good parts, but shows enough to make viewers want to see it. And I definitely want to see this film
of course, i defiantly want to see this too
definitely*
Elmr hrn *sigh *

this is actually art
Alexandre S. Then you don’t know art.
this movie is a masterpice! saw it tonight. enjoyed every minute of it using boxxy software and for free
It's just a movie that promotes a lie
This is not art. Just trying hard to look like art.
It's Oscar bait.
Just watched this movie and it really was a masterpiece, it actually exceeded my expectations. It's really dissapointing to see how many people write it off as "political propaganda" or whatever just because its focuses on homosexuality in black communities. I think some people need to realize that what's shown in the movie is actual reality for a lot of people, it isnt just made up propaganda. And just because the story is about minorities doesn't mean people only like it for that reason, the film itself is very well done.
Very well done.... it's funny how their is a lot of things to focus on; like how he is gay, black, living in the ghetto, but what I could really see is just romance
This movie is a piece of art
It deserves all the awards
wasnt saying shit about love simon when it came out. but this is forcing a political agenda. gtfo. thats just dumb
kingsley ferguson Calm down becky, it’s literally one black gay movie out of thousands of black heterosexual movies. You ain’t dying.
@@nadialove2048 I agree
Man even the trailer deserves an Oscar
Why? Because it shows black people in a stereotypical light?
Yesss! The cinematography and the music are stunning!
whitefangv lol, how can you say this was a good movie..
Eh ? Are you seeing something i'm not ?
I've just watched the trailer and thought, wtf is it that about - It doesn't look like there's going to be a lot happening in it to keep me awake, so wouldn't even make the effort of seeing it.
andrew dodd you guys are aware that this movie won the Oscar for best picture right? It's a pretty good film and you should give it a chance before you bash it.
this is one of them times where you don't even know a movie existed until it won an Oscar 😒
G-Dub 85 movie was trasg
G-Dub 85 um ok then?
G-Dub 85 you didn't know it existed but a bunch of other people did why you think it won an oscar😒
tbh, I saw no ads for it, heard no one talk about it, nothing
not really lol i knew it
"Who is you?" The quintessential existential question of being a human being. I love this film's simplicity and restraint and keep coming back to this trailer.
Charles Schwab over here
I have been askinf this question since 18 years and i am still.unanswerd
As a straight person this movie moved me deeply, this story not just about a homosexual black persons journey through life, but more about being loved, as a person bullied throughout my adolescent youth and having a harsh home life it relates to me on a different level, the movie interprets about finding love and compassion where in most places are not found, where neglected and damaged souls are finally healed, about escaping a troubled past a finding comfort in a new pasture, this movie really immersed myself into Chirons reality because its relatable to a lot of people, it reflects longing, heartbreak, regret, and loneliness, its not a love story its a tragedy, this was very touching and needed movie of a Generation, also the soundtrack alone is just hypnotic and hits you with raw emotion, its one of those films that is forgotten but will be remembered
I think it's important to realize that the biggest aspect is in fact, his sexuality, many of his problems are rooted or only made worse by it and by the end we realise he's alone in stuck in his past world while those around him have bettered themselves yet he still lives behind the hardened mask hyper masculinity made him build
hahuahuahuaah
Yes this movie approches many themes. So deep
Such a kino comment
@@DormerStone kino in a good way right?
Saw it. One of the greatest films of my life. It's destined to become a classic. The most profound film to "see" black men as they truly are, visually, emotionally, spiritually. Gorgeous. If you love great movies, you have to see it.
***** Forty lashes! Only kidding. You are entitled to not like it.
CutZy McCall I don't think it explores black men, more being a gay black man
Hi Mo Well, a black gay man is still a black man. I am talking about really "seeing" black men visually. The photography is beautiful, and intimate. Did you see the film?
Perfect movie for PC liberals.
How so? And please, show your work.
So much intensity in only one trailer.
tkoviet - but it doesn't tell the viewer ANYTHING about what the story is actually about. So much for 'intensity'...
I shows the mood without giving away the plot. Trailers these days are just summaries, but not this one.
Jeff Dobermann The entire purpose of a trailer is to entice the audience and have them curious about a movie so they want to see what the film is about. It's not meant to give a complete summary of the entire plot.
tkoviet you're pretty
I put this movie off for too long thinking it was going to be meh, and boy was I wrong. Words can’t describe how amazing this movie was. I was so pulled in, that there was a moment where I forget they were actors and that it was a film and truly believed that I was invading their private lives . It felt like I was really there with them.
Sco2b same boat. Gonna watch it now
Cuba Johnson let me know if you enjoyed it
@@cubajohnson6645 , I would like to see this movie, but my real Life around it makes it impossible. 😏
I was right there with you. Thought this was a cliche artsy movie. Someone convinced me to watch it, Rarely ever does a movie stick with me but this movie did. For days I thought about it, it really was something else.
Sco2b same bro
The way Juan held Little on the water made me cry so hard! Being a fatherless gay man of color, living in abject poverty and sorting the hateful ways of the world alone is what I endured as a kid myself...and it shaped me as a man. While I made school my life and avoided getting lost in some dark corner of life (like many people I knew did) , I recognize I am extremely fortunate. I sobbed so hard at the end! Chiron was such a complex character and gave the gay experience a richness and complexity I can identify with. We are all the same regardless of color , culture or sexual orientation: we just want to be loved.
I so agree. His mom even acknowledged how she didn’t love him when he needed it. That was heartbreaking and it broke him down. I’m glad she finally got some help with her addiction.
💜
Very beautifully said. You last sentence seems so simple, so common sense. Yet this masterpiece haunts me still because, like your last sentence, something so simple is incomprehensibly complex and heartbreakingly unachievable in this world.
I hope you're doing well Harrison. This movie means a lot to me as well.
Amen
This seems so interesting, but the problem is that gay movies tend to end so sadly that I'm actually scared to watch this one 😥😫
I agree
That's what about human existence is, hunny.
William Oliveira Exactly, but the problem is that 80% of gay movies in general end up bad with one of the main characters dying, leaving for another country etc...SO it's not too much asking for a happy BL movie.
And life is already sad enough, i don't need sad movies to make it sadder. I like to watch movie to forget for a while about real life.
Anyway, i'm still going to watch this movie, i just hope that it doesn't have a sad ending.
They really like seeing gay people suffer in Hollywood. I mean of course you're gonna have to touch upon matters like prejudice and all that, but why does it have to end bad? That's why I loved Carol so much.
My thoughts exactly
Saw this last night. When I tell you, it's the most important film this year, plz believe me. go see it. bring your friends. and tell your family.
NO THANKS... just more white liberal financed garbage to feed to the black community..

The Small Cap Millionaire
it's a "movie" stop being so triggered u worst than a white person smh
Juan David
this nigga prob believe in the Illuminati someone need to slap the goofy out this fool asap
LOL, most important film of the year. 1.7% of the population is gay. I hardly call that important. I blame Obama for the way you feel.
Best coming of age film of 2016. A story about a very specific demographic that is not typically portrayed in cinema and yet with universal themes anybody can relate to. Deconstructs masculinity and homophobia, tackles poverty and drug addiction, portrays the eternal struggle of being yourself vs who everybody expects you to be. Not just a love story.
Agenda Andy movie.
Styx Zero Moonlight is based on an autobiographical play. Just because it’s not a story you see everyday doesn’t mean it’s any less real than every other coming of age story.
Yesssssssssss very relatable characters. We all struggle with identity growing up.
Yes, that's why I think it's a masterpiece of a film, it tackles a subject matter that is rarely discussed, yet is able to have several themes throughout where you can have the audience connected to it no matter who they are. It's a very dynamic film.
4 years later and I can’t stop thinking about how this art has impacted my life
It took me 4 years to finally watch this masterpiece and I’m over here sobbing like a baby. This film is pure art I love it; it’s so beautifully made. I don’t think I’ve ever said that about a film before.
I have watched many movies in my life. This movie changed me...
are you turn blue yet?
Who's also here because of the wrong announcement of winner? Congratulations Moonlight... #Oscars
WEL LARA La-La Land was the real winner.
Michael Fritts it was so post to win but then triggered LGBT groups went to extremes threatening a war
WEL LARA Yaass
Moonlight was okay , picture was good , story and characters were average. La La Land won so many nominations and got by far much more popular and beloved. It's definetly politics that corrupt the Oscars here. AGAIN
WEL LARA I am I was shocked cause this was the last movie on my mind to win.
Finally a movie depicting black lgbtq members I hope it gets the recognition it deserves
i know right, since most of us to some do not exist
actually there's no Lbtq only gays ;)
Malachi Cooper lol blah blah blah we all heard these homophobic opinions before we don't give a shit go bark somewhere else loser
+Sebastien Napoleon disgusting
I hope it doesn't end in tragedy
Barry Jenkins has a kind of rare poetic view in today's cinema... Very few directors can evoke such intimate beauty on screen. Moonlight is a gentle masterpiece. Cheers from Spain.
I can’t stop thinking about this movie. I cried so much watching it. It’s such an eye opener film and it was written so beautifully and the actors where chosen perfectly for the story. I keep finding myself in tears because I can’t stop thinking about how many young and older men that go through these similar experiences with discrimination, loneliness and those who bring hatred towards their sexuality. We are all human and deserve every right to love either man or woman whichever sex you are. This film brought the message out perfectly this is truly and art piece, a film I will never forget.
Perfectly stated

how is it propaganda? movies are about human experience and gay people exist.

"Well, what did you expect?"
Sums up this whole movie......Beautiful......
This was the most beautiful movie I’ve seen in a long time. I’m ashamed I kind of skated around watching it. “What did you expect”. I didn’t expect to be captivated from being to end. I didn’t expect to cry. Hard. I didn’t expect to see myself on that screen. Black boys are blue in the Moonlight.

I drove 30 minutes to find a theater that was showing this movie, on my way to the theater, it felt like a long drive, on my way back it felt like I stepped into my car and 2 minutes later, I was home. I was so busy going through the movie in my head that a 30 minute drive felt like 5 minutes, once this thing comes out on DVD, I'm buying it, truly excellent movie and I cant tell you why, you have to go see it yourself. Alls I can say is I've never watched a movie that made me feel like I was someone else for 2 hours.

Peter E that's great. It also won best picture in the Oscars so I'm definitely going to have to check it out.
this movie Moontrash was garbage, waste of film, Fences deserved to win the Oscar
Peter E you gay too under cover brotha
Peter E you can just watch it at 123movies.
this film is a masterpiece I am thanking barry jenkins for existing
I'm speechless, what a beautiful movie.
This movie tackles so many issues within impoverished communities, yet all some people want to focus on is, "Gross. This dude likes other dudes." Go watch Get Rich or Die Trying if you want a surface level piece of shit, instead of a film that actually goes beneath thuggish stereotypes and shines s a light on people who are trying to not only get out of their situation, but also find themselves while doing so.
Right exactly
Anthony Irizarry this film is an eye opener to those in our world who are in cultures where if they mention the word gay unmaliciously, they get beat up
oh you want a movie that shines the light on people go watch City Of God
shut ur gay ass up.
B. Brazy that's nice good luck with that....

ahhh why are people so salty? i'm a la la land fan but I accepted that moonlight won. we don't have to fight over it. just accept it. moonlight won because it was better. people can have opinions. i adored la la land and if you don't that's okay with me. why can't we just accept opinions?
Oh shut up, do-gooder! People like to argue because it promotes discussion. Deal with it. Also deal with the fact that Moonlight is a boring yawn-fest that only won an oscar because black filmmakers threw a tantrum last year and accused everyone of being racist. The academy bent over and this year handed the complainers and moaners their oscar.
Sara W because La La Land got Steve Harvey'd. 😂😂😂😂
Sara W WEL LARA La La Land should have won. No one even knew about this stupid Moonlight movie. Why the hell should it have won a freakin oscar!? This nothing but political bias!

I wrote my final paper on this film for a subject I had in uni about gender, races, and identities and I got a 10/10. I love this movie so freaking much. Thank you for such masterpiece. Watching it was life changing.
It's actually not good
It's more than a good
I have no words to describe how beautiful this film is, it touched my heart in so many ways. We can all relate to feeling neglected in life, to live when there is no love to go around, but we can all relate to being loved and cared for too, even if it is just one person
did a moonlight edit it would be nice for you to check it out :)
A deeply compelling trailer.
The initial viewing of this trailer took my fucking breath away. I don't think I've seen anything like this--handled with such care--before in mainstream film. Finally what appears to be a central filmic narrative focusing on the harrowing sexual development of a beautiful dark skin black boy's journey into manhood. There are scenes that look brutal tough, because...well the subject matter is tough. Yet I'm hoping what we'll also see for this character in his journey, is the love and hard-won affirmation that is so desperately needed as powerful and redemptive representation for QPOC and black folks as a whole! (sigh) I'm really rooting for this, and can't wait to see it!
Great comment. I am very excited to see this film. I hope it lives up to the slowly growing hype!
Ankh!
I grew up like this, although im hispanic, but i truly felt like i was watching my own life in this trailer. i think a lot of us are going to relate. hope it gets recognized
@Mac - saw this over the weekend. It's incredible, and one of the few movies I've seen recently that lived up to its amazing trailer.

That's a masterpiece
Wow, I'm usually a superhero movie, and action/thriller type fan, so I didn't pay much attention to it when it was released. My mom recently watched it, and insisted I watch it as well, and it absolutely floored me. In my opinion, it's the best movie released in my lifetime, being born in the 90s. And to think they made this masterpiece on a 4 million dollar budget is incredible. Compare that to Suicide Squad's 175 million dollar budge, and that movie is a hot pile of garbage
never judge a movie by its budget.. you dont need a big budget to make a movie great.. its the minds and the talents behind the equipments that matter
She insisted for you to watch this movie because she wants you to come out the closet
,🤣🤣🤣😄
I think the budget was more around the 1.5 million area. It actually is the lowest budget film to ever win best picture
Of Course suicide squad is a pile of garbage.. did you see the movie.
Who's still watching this beautiful trailer in 2019?
Saw this last night and omg its Oscar worthy 👏👏👏
It won best motion picture just now, at the golden globes
Mike Lord Some of that is true, but In general the film at the Oscars do deserve to be there.
Mike Lord Good point. Sometimes some of the best movies are ignored because.....politics/ kiss ass mentality.
gullywog it did win the oscars
This Movie was most certainly the "BEST MOVIE" of 2016. This is unarguably the "BEST TRAILER" of 2016.
MOONLIGHT screamed CLASS n BEAUTY & Very few movies get stuck in my mind for sucha long time...it did something to me emotionally that i didnt expect. It Touched my Heart deeply.
damn, nice prediction
I love Chiron's personality. I rarely see a guy like that.
Pheak Sophea A guy like what? Shy?
Stu Pot complicated and vulnerable
The scene where Kevin plays hello stranger by Barbara lewis for Chiron in the restaurant, I instantly started crying. Such a beautiful movie.
Enemy and Under the Skin are my two favorite independent movies in the last decade. Now this. A24 not only are the new Miramax, but they are beyond in terms of taking chances and consistency with their films. PLEASE DON'T EVER STOP. WE NEED YOU.
The best trailer I have seen in years. Period.
Seong Buk-Gu imo 12 years a slaves trailer is the best
I just watched this movie and damn...shit hits hard. I love how even though the story followed a young gay black man growing up and discovering himself it wasn’t all centered around his sexuality. Everyone just wants to feel like they’re loved even by one person, everyone just wants to feel like they’re heard through all the pain and challenges they face.
There should be award ceremonies for trailers, this was amazing. It gave me chills and I'm not even gay. Watched the movie and it was just as impacting. PERFECT. Who is you man?
dont have to be gay to like a trailer?
my thoughts exactly. i'd say the trailer was even better than the movie (though the movie was very good)
+dolisha ferrell It's a wide reminder that people like you need to stop fucking closing your eyes and turning your heads to the things like this. Before you point your fingers make sure your hands are clean. I don't know who could ever love a person like you with so much hate and selfishness in their heart it must be a big weight to carry, when you become open minded you chill out a little but and stop becoming so goddamn uptight for christ's sake. If you opened your mind half as much as you opened your mouth, we'd all be in a better place.
He fine as hell with them grills.
Jasmine Davis yes mam
Hmmmm. Women and criminals.......
Yup

This comment section is weird... It's a bunch of art school, cinema buffs and then ... Chicks that say "grills"....
I'm a huge fan of the Oscar's. i expected nothing but this movie to win. Since i saw the trailer i wanted to watch it in that exact moment. It's poetic. They only invested 1.5 million on the entire movie. it didnt have millions of dollars on production. And yes, i was kind of mad when people started to complain about the fact that this movie won. They haven't even watched it yet, they don't know how AMAZING this film is. They are not used to see a winner that didnt have the super production, the pretty girl and the handsome boy. This is a powerful message above it all. This is a background of what Many people has and is suffering. This is pure art. And i couldnt be any more thankful to all of the people who make this amazing movie.
Luisa Cantu It's true. This movie is a peace of art and presents a theme that is normally unspoken in the society.
This movie is pure art.
This movie is an art.
Seeing a bunch of immature 12 year olds, who haven't even seen this film, witch-hunting the trailer's comment section and blindly saying something negative is honestly one of the saddest things I have ever witnessed in my entire life
I guess you've never been 12. 12 year olds have always been pieces of shit.
Honestly? The saddest thing? Whats ur age lol
You sound like you are twelve years old yourself, being so dramatic.
This is a movie that will make me cry like a baby.
ray-queezy Dragon I almost cried in the theatres
I did cry in the theaters!
You know it.
S J it ended so bad... so was he in love with the guy who gave him a handjob
What I love about this movie is the camera shots, the lighting, it's like this weird aesthetic that makes you remember that movie for a long time.
I watched this the year it came out but only when I was like 14 years old. I think I watched it bc it won awards. And when I saw it, it basically meant nothing. Now 6 yrs later, I watched it again. It is one of the most moving pieces of cinema I’ve watched in a while.
Too many indulge in Satan temptations too little rebuke them. This is why children animals and relatives are not safe because like you, they all gave in to their lust of choice
@@sharon5414 Well....a lot of penguins are gay....and GOD made penguins....so clearly God is cool with animals and people being gay because that's the way he made them. If you have an issue with homosexuality, take it up with God. LOVE is LOVE.
@@jodijacobsonworld really? So you approve of pedophiles, people who mess with their parents or children so a mom involved with her biological son is love. What about those who are into animals is that love ? or those who are into the dead. Love is love. Only a sexual deviant would find that normal. HOMOSEXUALITY IS A PERSONAL CHOICE. NOBODY IS BORN A SEXUAL DEVIANTS. ITS A PERSONAL CHOICE MOTIVATED BY PURE SEXUAL GRAIFICATION .
@@jodijacobsonworld so stop pretending to be a girl. You are nothing but a feminine MAN. NEVER EVER WILL YOU BE A REAL WOMAN....... SORRY TAKE THAT UP WITH GOD. Lies is Satan The truth is God.
I saw the movie and there is a universal, human experience of acceptance, identity, belonging, and love/affirmation. Please do not reduce this movie to homosexuality, but as an opportunity to peep into a window to witness a person developing into themselves through adversity and trials in this journey called life.
This movie was so powerful. All actors' delivery was spellbinding.*
Crying the whole movie because of how amazing it was
As a guy with an abused and neglected childhood, this movie hits me hard everytime I see it. 😭
Words cannot describe how breathtaking this looks.
And the Oscar for best picture is...."Moonlight, a Barry Jenkins film"
lol not in this day and age. not in white hollywood.
i'm gonna come back and laugh at you when it wins
Don't deserve it. There are much better films.
lol, like what?
Manchester by the Sea, The Arrival, La La Land, Hell or High Water or Silence for example.
This remains one of my favorite trailers to date. I haven’t even seen the film yet.
One of the most beautiful films I've ever seen. Watch it. Immediately.
A24 stays releasing the best movies
It's amazing that this won Best Picture, but at the same time it's sad that one of the best films of the last 10 years or so is gonna be subject to the internet backlash that comes with winning that award
racists bitch I can even say no more
I don't know, i despise the oscars but can judge a movie by its own merits, and happen to think this movie is simply superb.
If you're African american an you want an award have your black males put on a dress have your women act abusive have your men sexually confused have the black woman an man as slaves have the anchimama characteristics have the black woman angry have the black family torn apart and have the man of the home out of the picture have colorism in place ~ and that's how black movies obtain awards with these key components
I do not think the facts bear out your theory. One of the first movies about Black characters to win a lot of awards was "Sounder," about a poor farm family in which the parents struggled to try and make it possible for their children to have better lives than they had (that is a universal movie theme, regardless of race).
The father spent some time away from the family, but they reunited in an emotional and glorious ending.
The same year, "Lady Sings the Blues" portrayed the life of Billie Holliday andwhile it is true that Ms. Holliday's struggle with drugs that eventually toiok her life was a part of the story, nonee of the items on your list was depicted in the movie. Nevertheless, the film won many awards, primarily for Diana Ross' astoningly raw and real performance that literally ran the full range of the emotional scale from triump to tragedy. At this year's awards, one of the most nominated films was "Hidden Figures" -- its cast won the biggest Screen Actor's Guild award -- and it was a story of women of accomplishment, but it featured romances for its characters, families being supportive and functional and it did not really deal with sex or sexual orientation at all. Whoopie Goldberg won an Oscar for a wonderful comic performance in "Ghost" and her character did not fit any of your categories. Louis Gossett, Jr. won an Oscar for "An Officer and a Gentleman," in which he played an Army sergeant -- not fitting any of your categories. Sidney Poitier was the first Black actor to win the top award, and his rolre of a "just passing through" guy who helps a group of nuns build a church fits none of your items. Denzel Washtinton has won two Oscars and been nominated for seveal more, and he has never appeared in a role that matches your items. Jamie Foxx won many awards for "Ray," and it does not fit those categories, and neither do those won by Morgan Freeman, Fprest Whitaker, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Viola Davis, and on and on.
I am not sure why you made the comment or who you had in mind. I have read comments from individuals that disliked "Moonlight" because it depicted a character's realization that he is gay and his coming to terms with it, but I do not believe that you were unhappy in that manner. It is true that in the history of the Academy Awards, Golden Globes, etc., many actors and actresses have won for performances in which they played particular types of dramatic roles. But, they have more to do with occupations than sexuality and addictions instead of family dysfunction. More remarkably, the actors who won awards playing prlostitutes, those with addictions, those with disabilities involve mostly white actors and actresses. The list of Black winners and nominees tend to involve characters that were heroic or gifted or dedicated and overcoming obstacles. So, I think you gave the wrong advice to young Black actors and actresses -- those are the roles that win them them awards. Before concluding, I wanted to say that I think "Moonlight" is one of the most beautiful, touching, real and artistically made films I have ever seen -- and I am 67 and have seen more movies than anyone could count. The acting was superb in every role, and the three individuals who shared the lead role were seemless and true to the character in ways I would not hve thought possible. Perhaps the most remarkable thing about the movie to me was that all the roles were three dimensional and not stereotypes. Yes, Mahershala Ali was a drug dealer, but he was not like any drug dealer you have ever seen depicted in any other movie. Wonderful Naomie Harris played a crack addicted character, but she was far more than that. "Moonlight" was a movie that took place in the inner city with a Black cast, but it was not about guns, explosions, deaths and prison breaks. It was about real humans trying to deal iwith the lot they had been given. I did not think it had a chance to win Best Movie, but when "La La Land" was announced, I was very disappointed. When the error was announced and "Moonlight" declared the winner, this old fart had gotten out of bed and was standing in my bedroom applauding with tears in my eyes. The makers of the film deserved every bit of recognition they received.
One of the best decisions in academy history giving this best picture. Its a masterpiece
Such an amazing film. Very few movies come close to Moonlights inimitable beauty.
everyone involved with this movie has some true courage. Even playing a gay character is enough for ignorant black people to hate you.
so true
+Lady x There you go terrorizing others
All of us derive from africa yo.
it's silly to think that some of us derived from a cold and biologically inept area like the rest of the world.
+DEVROX Thank you.
We need more legitimate Black researchers, as opposed to those who do it to gain favor with the Albinos and thus make money, who must out of necessity, try to reconstruct history by bits and pieces. The Albinos have after all, had over 700 years to create their false paintings, statues, and false translations of historical documents.
Call Recklezz you're a fool if you believe that. No where in the Bible does it say the world is 6000 years old first of all. Secondly a world without religion is the world you see today, wrought with hate and division. Religion is discipline. Most of the religious practices around the world reveal to the layman how nature and groups of people work as well as helping one understand where they fit in all this. Proper religious practice leads to inner peace. And if you thing Islam, Christianity, and Judaism are the only three religions in the world you're just as much an idiot as you sound
At first I prejudged this movie. It's only one gay scene. I've seen way more on prime time TV than in this movie. The acting is A1. It's way deeper than sexuality. It's definitely in my top 5. It better get an Oscar.
Thick*Thighs Slanted*iis Congratulations!
Thick*Thighs Slanted*iis Loo it did. 😂
Thick*Thighs Slanted*iis it's 3 gay scenes
Why would it having more than one gay scene be considered a negative thing? The storyline is about sexuality and all of the hardships that come with it. I don't understand the prejudice of writing this off as a "gay movie" like why is that bad in the first place
because watching two guys kissing is not normal.
I never saw Moonlight in the theater (cause I was too young to watch an R rated movie like this). I watched this movie last month for the first time. All I can say is that it really is a work of art, a masterpiece, and one of my favorite films of all time.
This movie is amazing. Its not a Hollywood gay sex driven movie. Its a beautiful story about Love and acceptance. The way it ended. Man it was deeply emotional. I believe it all comes down to being accepted not by the world but by the people we Love.
this is a deffinetly earned oscar. such a great movie
One of the most haunting scores I've heard in a while
This movie DESERVED that oscar... the actors were superb and that storyline 👏👏👏💘
Is it odd that I keep coming back to this trailer when I am filled with sorrow? Cathartic is how I describe Moonlight.
this looks so refreshing and different from your usual coming of age drama story, there aren't many movies that dapple on a black man and his sexuality. def gonna watch this!
Haven't stopped thinking about it since ive watched it- truly amazing movie
Jacqueline Holden I know same here. I really didn't stop thinking after watching the film... It shows how truly unique that is, like the story line that is
What is the point of the movie.? What message does it send?
This film aint a masterpiece just because the movie is about a black gay "thug". Its actually a normal movie, not special or anything
Iamnotlegend Ulut you are pure genius.. or at least not part of the sheep that "love" this movie. . They should watch House of D. It's the exact same plot as half the movie!
Same here. That's how I always know I've seen a good movie, it just sticks with me. Easily one of the 5 best films I've ever seen
Quite possibly one of the most gorgeously heart wrenching films I've ever seen.
Just watched this movie and have to say it was a masterpiece on many levels. Not many films have me shedding tears but this one did. Well done to all involved in making this film, all the awards it won were well deserved.
HOL UP!! WAYMENT!! This in my fucking hood!!!!! Liberty City, Miami.
Brian Young POKA BEAN PROJRCTS
da beans!!!!!!!
Brian Young yeasssss
Seriously..., quite possibly the finest film I have ever seen.. And for the record.., I'm heterosexual.. And I'm so glad I watched this movie alone, I got to enjoy the pure art of it without the judgements of ignorant or bad company. I would have paid $100.00 to see this film, it was that good. Absolutely five full stars. I was deeply touched by the authenticity of this film ..
The best film to come out in the last 20 years. A perfect film.
The way Barry Jenkins shoots faces is incredible
