The Moral Letter to Lucilius are a collection of 124 letters which were written by Seneca the Younger at the end of his life, during his retirement, and written after he had worked for the Emperor Nero for fifteen years. (These Moral Letters are the same letters which Tim Ferriss promotes in the Tao of Seneca)

    Notes:
“Why is it that folly holds us with such an insistent grasp? It is, primarily, because we do not combat it strongly enough, because we do not struggle towards salvation with all our might; secondly, because we do not put sufficient trust in the discoveries of the wise, and do not drink in their words with open hearts; we approach this great problem in too trifling a spirit”
“What hinders us most of all is that we are too readily satisfied with ourselves”
“Thus it follows that we are unwilling to be reformed, just because we believe ourselves to be the best of men”
“Each man, according to his lot in life, is stultified by flattery”
“if you seek joy in the midst of cares, these objects for which you strive so eagerly, as if they would give you happiness and pleasure, are merely causes of grief.”
“applause and the popularity of enthusiastic approval which are gained, and atoned for, at the cost of great mental disquietude”
“Reflect, therefore, on this, that the effect of wisdom is a joy that is unbroken and continuous …You have, then, a reason for wishing to be wise, if the wise man is never deprived of joy. This joy springs only from the knowledge that you possess the virtues. None but the brave, the just, the self-restrained, can rejoice.”
“Just because it is not in the power of another to bestow, neither is it subject to another's whims. That which Fortune has not given, she cannot take away”

These letters have helped me navigate challenging times. I find them calming to listen to as I lay here on a floor mat. Thank you, Vox 🎉

How stoic is it that he has no ads in his videos? That says to me, "im going to record this to the best of my abilities as i can muster, and whether or not anyone sees it, i will be fulfilled by the effort i put into it." Like marcus aurelius' diary, the obstacle becomes the way.

These letters show a lost art...that was replaced by the stenoic style of mails used nowadays...The eloquence of written communicaton is...lost...sadly.That is one of the pleasures of hearing these recording. Thanks so much...

Get a nice pen and a wax stamp and write some letters yourself. I do on occasion and it is very fulfilling.

Im sorry but I have to say how clear it is that you arent listening with much intent 😂 Throughout these letters there are COUNTLESS appeals against "literary style" of any sort.. "Why do you tickle my ears with fancy words? I am to be operated on!".. Lol. Not trying to be rude but.. Im not sure if Seneca would have cared for your emphasis on symmantics.. And Im not sure that he would even take this as a compliment.. Probably would sound like more of an insult.
