  • Choosing the right pre and post-surgery clothes starts with what you wear to the hospital. If you have ever been a patient or visited someone in the hospital you know that it is always far colder than you want it to be, so wear layers of clothing on your way to the hospital.
It will take time to get you admitted and prepped for surgery. There is nothing worse than shivering in the waiting area before they take you back.
Layering loose clothing will allow you to easily take layers off or get undressed when they ask you to put on your pre-surgery gown.
It will also make it easy for you to put back on top layers over your surgical gown if you are still cold.

I had a bilateral knee replacement in late May. I bought Hey Dude shoes to wear to PT which has worked very well! Easy to get on and easy to get off. I wore a dress to the hospital. Last week I finally achieved 120° flexion! It took a while but I’m very excited that I did it. My flexion was only 90° prior to surgery. Your videos have been very helpful!

I love Hey Dudes. My dog Tucker chewed them up a bit, but they still feel great on my feet. Thanks for sharing! Congratulations on reaching 120 degrees!

I have a suggestion - There are men's (And probably womens although I have not looked) Warmup pants or fleece pants that have ZIPPERS at the ankle that go up the side of the leg a bit. They are generally loose fitting and make a great choice for PT or a Office Appointment in cold weather. I can easy unzip and get them over my Knee (I had a Quad Tendon rupture but it is in the same general leg area) for the Knee to be seen. And they are easy to get off (Wear shorts under them) if you need to as well. And today they also sell SLIP IN (Not Slip on) shoes (Sketchers and others) - that you can get on without needing to bend down to get your foot into them - ie Hands free. They seem to work well for several months.

Great clothing choices! I've had both knees replaced, three years apart. Lightweight, wide legged sweats with elastic waistband were perfect, both at the hospital and for outpatient PT. (And for my follow-ups with the surgeon, including the x-ray follow-ups). They could be readily cuffed up or down. I wore my TEVA sandals to the hospital and to PT. Easy to get on and off, secure with the backstrap, and easily adjusted to a swelling foot.

I had TKR as an outpatient and was told to wear solid shoes and socks, no sandals. I ignored this recommendation because it occurred to me that it would be hell to pull on socks and shoes after surgery. The nurse I was assigned told me I was really smart to wear the sandals, but she struggles all the time with people wearing socks and shoes with laces!

Right?! I think it would be a mistake to wear something like slides, but an adjustable sandal with a backstrap is completely secure and lets the swollen foot do what it needs to do.

I like your videos, thank you.
Two hours after surgery the PT helps me in my Jogging pant and to get out of the bed, to go with crutches on the floor and back to the bed and CPM.
    I don't have had a drain.
    So that's hier in Germany.
5 days after surgery ago I came from hospital in a stationary Rehab clinic for 4 weeks.
At September 30. it is one year ago. I have Arthrofibroses. My range of motion are 90 degrees now. That's the best range of motion that I have had. I go to gym 2 day in week right now.

Had total knee replacement in December. Definitely need loose fitting pants. I learned I needed a pant leg I could pull up for PT. Made life so easy! For home lots of pajama pants and bigger underwear because my leg was so swollen. I used sneakers with laces for PT. My foot as well was swollen.

That tip about the underwear is very helpful. I am going to add it to my post.
