by "mixed" do you mean the usual Western bias of claiming all Chinese stuff is junk while they themselves are using Made in China "junk" as well??
Seriously though, only idiots would underestimate China's ability to copy properly or make something of it's own that may or may not be an "inspiration" of something else but can also do it just as good or even better.
Just look at their cars, dare I say cars from Geely, Chery, SAIC, MG, etc. are better than anything from Ford, Chevy, GM, or other American, Western or even Japanese brands but at a better price.

as more J-20 joins service in PLAAF, J-10 will also have to shift to take on a wider range of roles including AShM, SEAD, stand off ground attack and precision bomb delivery. finally seen YJ-83K on J-10 recently. As we've seen with Russia/Ukraine recently, PGM in modern warfare is very important. And J-10 carrying more glide bombs and other PGMs possibly in the future.
And PAF/PN also replacing old multirole Mirages with J-10CP so it would be multirole, SOW, and nuclear delivery (ALCM) platform for the PAF.
So expect expansion of J-10C armament in near future.
PL-15 employees an onboard AESA seeker for its terminal guidance. Which would have better ECCM capabilities and better hit probability under EW jamming and decoys

    • @joelau2383
      @joelau2383 2 роки тому +2

Yes, J-10 actually have very good ground attack capability. It can carry 3 external fuel tanks, 8 250kg smart bombs and 2 short range AAM for long range air strike mission.
However, PL-15 do not have Ka band AESA seeker, but X band active radar seeker. AESA do not have significant advantage on small weapon like AAM, because of the electricity and computation capacity limit on AAM. On the other hand, X band active radar seeker can obtain target radar signiture and ECCM support from X band AESA radar on the fighter throught data link. It basically means PL-15 cannot be jammed or tricked when fighter lock on the target.

Hi, off the topic of the j10. The 2 recently downed russian jets reportedly being su-30sm’s, which to my knowledge are twin seaters, ive only seen photos of one ejected pilot of each. So are they not ejecting in tandem or are they only flying with 1 crew member instead of 2, which would be odd for multiple reasons. 1 being it would mean they dont train together as a 2man team long term . 2 atleast to my knowledge the back seater handles weapon management and battle space management. What are your thoughts?

@Griffin Taurus 👹🎭 yeah but theyd be 2 pilots/crew still, id expect su34 to only be able to be operational with 2 pilots but su-30sm could be flown with some operational capability mainly air superiority as theyd be less workload on the pilot w
Ithout having to coordinate ground attacks in aircraft ment for a crew of 2. But this would mean quite a strange military doctrine of not using an aircraft to its full potential and instead just using it ‘however you can’. This is all of course my opinion best on facts i can gather and logical deductions. Hence why im intrigued with what others with knowledge greater than mine think.

    • @andrewsuryali8540

The other, simpler explanation would be that they aren't Su-30SMs. We haven't seen the actual planes, and it's perfectly possible that all the shot down Su-30s and -35s are just -27s. In WW2 every Panther got reported in as a KT and every Pz IV was a Tiger.

@@vocvoc9895 a "heavy load" is some bulky pod or missile, a big tank.
Using underbelly center point frees the wings hardpoint for lighter loads. This location is specially important on a light fighter where there are fewer of them with lower load limits.
Pods, missiles, even tanks are common to all fighters, heavy or light.
It is more the number of missiles, pods, tanks rather than their weight that is different on multirole light fighters. A heavy fighter will carry 2 big missiles instead of 1 on a light, or 4 bombs instead of 2. A light fighter can carry, for example, a big antiship missile under the belly, two tanks and a pod under the wings. The missile must fit in size. And the front wheel limits this size, which can be an issue.

there is this confusion that PLA stand for "army" but it actually more accurate to refer to it as "armed forces". JUN which is historically translated as army, but in modern times, what would be refer to as army would be call LUJUN, which mean "ground army", the chinese word for "army" is not ground force exclusive word and this change happen a century ago when Qing modernise the navy. PRC merely adopted the lingo of the ROC which adopted the lingo from Qing. all branch of the PLA report not to the army but the military commission, which is "usually" headed by the president. also the reason it call PLA is because China is still in a civil war so technically it doesn't have a unified national army, it has one that is control by beijing and another control by taipei. occasionally, they would use "china army" "china navy" "china airforce" in their title for international mission but that is just "branding" and has no organization impact on the unit involved.

The "family of weapons" concept makes logical sense for the PLAAF, given it's historically limited budget. It can dramatically reduce development time & cost, since only a small number of key components (e.g. seekers) are developed, instead of a whole missile/bomb. It also minimizes the logistical hassles of producing different parts for different types of munitions. It's another classic exhibit of the PRC's weapons development pattern: small but fast evolutionary improvements built on mature platforms with largely predictable performance metrics.

He's looking for anything that appears to be sticking up to the arrogant West!
"No need to copy [JDAM]" when we have evidence of espionage vis-a-vis JDAM.
A lot of dubious claims. I think as we saw with Russia's incorporation of PGMs in this war in Ukraine, inability to achieve SEAD, etc. Etc. Russia shouldn't have any problems ruling Ukraine's airspace. It lacks PGM in quantity. But that is significant. Because although theoretically Russia has a fighter that is just as good as F-35, has the armament that matches X missile, Russia has hypersonic missile, etc. Etc. But it's almost like they have two doctrines. One for [attempted] advertisement of expensive new weapons, and then one for the weapons they can actually afford. I'm condensing a lot of ideas to say that fighting wars with maximal leverage of these advanced capabilities is different than developing these advanced weapon systems. Completely separate disciplines. That is why you can't compare military balance sheets and inventories, if you will.

Meant to say spec sheets, not balance sheet. This war has pretty much exposed that the USA is at least 40 years ahead of Russia in conventional warfighting . China, how will China handle the intensity of Allied air operations? Strategically, a few dozen Tomahawk cruise missiles could flood half of China's farmland. China is very vulnerable but won't be attacked. So we will see how much money China will throw at engineering when the problem is that Chinese families don't want their only son to pursue a dangerous, low-paying career in the PLA. The top brass of the PLAAF are there for political and financial reasons, not merit. Historically this corruption of command has always hampered China's ability to wage war outside its landmass.

Im not talking about the Russian fighting man. They are fighting for their lives in Ukraine. For sure. But their leadership has left them with a hollowed out force of vehicles that haven't all been maintained, that don't have enough fuel, troops without rations.
