I just found out that Wintergatan's Marble Machine wouldn't have existed if you didn't introduce them to this tool... You are touching so many lives in so many ways.. I salute you for your effort; you have my utmost respect :)
Thank you Matthias. Never made gears before and your program has made it so simple for me. It seems to have become my life now, making gears and seeing things move. Thank you very much for your program.
Haven't made many gears in my life, but this program really makes me interested in the whole idea of gearing. I mostly use pulleys and v-belt for moving parts.
Matthias Wandel I just bought the program. It's absolutely fantastic. Thank you very much for your work. However, you should really update your website to mention that your program does now also provide export to .csv functionality. I'm sure you're missing potential buyers because of this as I myself was rather hesitant about ordering thinking export to .svg isn't supported and that I would need to fiddle with exporting to .dxf then converting to .svg using Inkscape or some other 3rd program. It goes without saying that seeing export to .svg is indeed supported was a very pleasant surprise. You see, exporting to .svg is required in order to be able to import the gear profiles directly into Autodesk's 123D Design. Which is a rather popular free 3D modelling application. And is likely also the easiest way to import into other 3D modelling applications as well. Thank you for your excellent work on this fine program.
It should run on parallels, just try the eval. But most people don't use that, and mac users aren't always the most savy, so I figured it's best not to mention that explicitly.
wow i am a mecatronic engineer from colombia , this is a VERY usefull tool. for now i cant buy it, but later when i have the money i will buy it. for now the free version :v you are a very smart person, the world need more persons like you. :D
Agreed, making gears in solidworks or inventor is a legitimate nightmare. Wish i had found this video in my second semester project when i needed to build a gearbox.
That's what I figured. Ok, cool. That will work for me. Thanks again for the awesome program and great videos . Your creations never cease to inspire and impress me.
Hi Matthias. What do you think of wooden worm gears. Ever considered or even tried? Since plywood could be difficult, my idea would be to segment the gear wheel into several portions in order to achieve the optimum wood fiber orientation in each teeth. Looking forward to see you trying it. Keep up the good work!!!
Very nice. A question. How many gears can be designed and tested at the same time? I mean, can I design an entire clock using the program and simulate how it is going to work? Thanks
You have some great features in this program, I do have one question, what do you use for rendering? Is it something that goes with framework or is it some other plugin? Thanks.
Ok, you just received $26 dollars from me. It's well worth the price! I do have a question, however. Is the program (version 3.0.4) limited to only two gears? If no (and I apologize if you've already answered this and I've overlooked the answer), how does one go about adding more gearing to the train?
of course, i can't just download one thing. i have to look, experiment, and find my own answers. i don't generally take anyone's "word for it." and after a lengthy investigative process i kept coming back around to your software. it's not expensive, it's powerful, and simple to use. i'm downloading it right now :-) thank you.
Wanting a good deal, and not ceeding control to apple would each be reason enough on their own. I care not to join the masses who "think differently" just like everybody else. I just want to be able to do what I want and control how I do it.
Hello. I am a gearbox designer and was wondering if this software can output manufacturing dimensions of an involute tooth profile if I input the necessary parameters (Pitch Diameter, addendum, dedendum, tooth count, pressure angle etc.). Would be a great asset to me if it can at this price.
You can also program software? I'm quite impressed. I really need to check your website. Which language did you use for this? How do you generate the animated gears? Is there a ready-to-use library for that?
I was trying the software to produce a #25 chain roller sprocket to eventually laser cut. I use the info available online but the results were not correct, the shape of the teeth were off for some reason.
Hi Mattias I have used your programme on and off since 2014: the one thing I don t seem to retain is how you set the overall diameter size; in the past I used the grid which helped a bit but never thought it was the most effective way to do it, can you help?
Watching the video on my iPad, wishing I could run your software on same. Love the video. What is the blade config on the bandsaw to get that fast smooth cut?
Hi Mathis. My name Garebed Shirinian . I did purchased your gear program a few years back never got around using it . now that I have little bit of time, I must have earast it accidentally. do you have another copy of it or I need to purchase another copy. Thanks
Hι. I find the program interesting and would like to ask if the programs do calculations involving speed. For example, in the case of a chain, the relationship between the rotation speed and the diameter of the sprocket and the linear speed of the chain or ratio between different size of gears.
When you say that it will not run on a Mac computer do you mean that it will not run on OS X or do you mean that there is a hardware problem that it won't run on Parallels and WinXP Pro on a Mac?
Me too. That is why I use Macs. They run OS X, Windows, Linux and Unix. I am never limited that way. By the way, 5% of computer users don't quite qualify as 'the masses'. I am really impressed with your energy and creativity. Keep up the great videos.
This is brilliant. Thank you. I am definitely getting this. Can it make bevel gears or fishbone gears? If now, I can probably add that effect when I import these into my 3D software. It's only like $23 right? I'd say that's a fair price. You definitely deserve something for hte time you've put into it. Don't any of you DARE pirate this!
Parabéns Matthias ! Seus videos são muito bons , suas construções são excelentes ! Estou maravilhado e vou ver todos os videos . Parabéns , Edson Menezes.
press and hold the set button it could be in setting mode try a different battery (seems to fix most problems) other than that, the bin is the best place
I'm having problems downloading the file on vista. I right click to compress the zip file inorder to make a folder for it, but the file copies itself the same way it was before without creating a compressed folder for itself. And, it's appearance is that of a file that I must choose a program to open it. Please help someone.
Hello there and congratulations! Juste wanted to say that it could be a great idea to do a version cheaper but for a limited period for the people who only need it for one project. As you can guess it was my case so i didnt wanted to spend 28$.
@Matthiaswandel I do my laser cutting through Ponoko, and they only use .eps and .svg, so that's what I need. I use Inkscape for most of my editing, so svg is preferable!
Hi Matthais . I bought gear generator in the passed for $25 . However I somehow lost it when I change my phone and did some cleanup . How much is the price now thx. Gary

Thank you Matthias. Never made gears before and your program has made it so simple for me. It seems to have become my life now, making gears and seeing things move. Thank you very much for your program.
The gear ratio is the ratio of the gears, which is something you enter. Not something that needs calculation.
Haven't made many gears in my life, but this program really makes me interested in the whole idea of gearing. I mostly use pulleys and v-belt for moving parts.
No, just like it says on the website. I even made it show that in bold for Mac users, but I guess it wasn't bold enough.
Ok, that's Awesome! Going to go purchase this tonight when I get in from the shop.
I saw that :) Thanks!
This is a really great program! Gonna make things alot easier on me.
Really cool
David Macauley HOLY FLIP ITS DAVID MACAULEY
Matthias Wandel I just bought the program. It's absolutely fantastic. Thank you very much for your work.

Thank you for your excellent work on this fine program.
The gear ratio is exactly as you enter it, no need to display RPMs.
Mostly it adjusts, although for some ring gear combinations, there can be interference.
Gears only mesh two at a time. If your need more than two gears, design them one pair at a time.
It should run on parallels, just try the eval. But most people don't use that, and mac users aren't always the most savy, so I figured it's best not to mention that explicitly.
You will find that info on the purchase page.
Calculate the planet to mesh with the outside, and it will mesh with the inside as well.
your work is spectacular, I follow the brilliant Mattias Wandel from Canada, and now I follow you. I love woodworking.

No, although I have been thinking of adding that.
No, but maybe the "bandsaw vs cnc" could be in a non-gaming kind of way.
wow i am a mecatronic engineer from colombia , this is a VERY usefull tool. for now i cant buy it, but later when i have the money i will buy it. for now the free version :v

So... You're not only a woodworker, but you're also a programmer? Nobody should be this talented. I feel like crap now.
Try the eval version.
Yes, my online gear generator. Not as many features, but it will do involute gears.
at 8:20 you essentially made a geroter (if you weren't pins). Would be cool to see if you could pump water with a wooden gerotor.
Hi Matthias. What do you think of wooden worm gears. Ever considered or even tried? Since plywood could be difficult, my idea would be to segment the gear wheel into several portions in order to achieve the optimum wood fiber orientation in each teeth. This man can even program. Talk about a jack of all trades
It's download only.
Looking forward to seeing YOU try it. Not something I would do.
Very nice. A question. How many gears can be designed and tested at the same time?
I mean, can I design an entire clock using the program and simulate how it is going to work? Thanks
Can you change the hole from round to hex in the program? Also could you add the feature allowing an export as a .stl file (3D Printers)
You have some great features in this program, I do have one question, what do you use for rendering? Is it something that goes with framework or is it some other plugin? Thanks.

you can also use gearotic motion, same thing but a little bit harder and not nearly as time effective
Wanting a good deal, and not ceeding control to apple would each be reason enough on their own. I care not to join the masses who "think differently" just like everybody else. I just want to be able to do what I want and control how I do it.

You can try the free evaluation version to see if it meets your needs.
Matthias, please would have the signal in the drawing where we have to stick to create gear teeth?
I think you are the first person to ever ask for that.
You can also program software? I'm quite impressed. I really need to check your website. Which language did you use for this? How do you generate the animated gears? Is there a ready-to-use library for that?
Is it possible to make helical cut gears so they'd be very quiet when running?
well... what about one central gear that meshes with a gear on 2 sides? could be useful being able to calculate both those gears at the same time.
which software did u use for that work?
your demonstration is very clear to understand , how do you make this animation
I was trying the software to produce a #25 chain roller sprocket to eventually laser cut. I use the info available online but the results were not correct, the shape of the teeth were off for some reason.

Use the second tab.
@@matthiaswandel Thanks for the swift reply, that helped.
About window is not fixed in size, no application icons (small fixes but it will be look like a much more polished product)
Watching the video on my iPad, wishing I could run your software on same. Love the video. What is the blade config on the bandsaw to get that fast smooth cut?

Hι. I find the program interesting and would like to ask if the programs do calculations involving speed. For example, in the case of a chain, the relationship between the rotation speed and the diameter of the sprocket and the linear speed of the chain or ratio between different size of gears.
Then use the free eval version.
What software did you write the app in? .NET or VB6?
for a simulator itd be a fancy add. but for a simple generator no need. and matthias love your vids man LOVE them
The problem is you can't increase the RPM of the animation but not super critical you could leave the program like that.
Wobbly mode is so trippy!! Cool program Mathias! What language was this coded in?
When you say that it will not run on a Mac computer do you mean that it will not run on OS X or do you mean that there is a hardware problem that it won't run on Parallels and WinXP Pro on a Mac?
Does the program have the ability to mark for a keyway on the center shaft hole?
Me too. That is why I use Macs. They run OS X, Windows, Linux and Unix. I am never limited that way. By the way, 5% of computer users don't quite qualify as 'the masses'.
I am really impressed with your energy and creativity. Keep up the great videos.
Any thoughts on oval gears, or triangular gears, used in pumps?
Can this program make LEGO-style gears? (Plus in the middle instead of round)
This guy is the coolest on UA-cam!
Matthias just out of interest, what programming language did you use to develop this app?
As we say it in Jamaica...MAXIMUM RESPEK BREDRIN!!!! GOOD WORK!
can you do a version that allows more than 2 gears?
Savy is a commune in northern France. I think the word you're looking for is 'savvy'.
Does anyone know of a gear generating program that works on a MAC?
Very impressive, would this App work on an Android Tablet?
generate worm?
This is brilliant. Thank you. I am definitely getting this. Can it make bevel gears or fishbone gears? If now, I can probably add that effect when I import these into my 3D software.
It's only like $23 right? I'd say that's a fair price. You definitely deserve something for hte time you've put into it. Don't any of you DARE pirate this!
does it calculate gear ratios? what about compound gearing?
Is it possible to reverse the animation?
Awesome program, nicely done! Can users switch from centimeters (cm) to inches (in)?
VideoNOLA Yes.
Can you make it work on Mac? Please? I’ve been trying to build a machine with gears but I can’t because I have a Mac.
Have you tried wine? This looks like it would work well on wine
bootcamp, works well!
Oh, another reason - I don't like Mac zealots! :) Wouldn't want to be in any way associated with one!
Will i get this on chormebook apps? How do you determine the horizontal space with respect to the gear size?
Chromebook.. lol. How about get a real computer?
Can I generate more gear or only two ?
will you be making a version of this for apple products?
what is the max stable rpm you can get with these wood gears ?
+bitterbarf Totally depends on precision and how much vibration you are willing to deal with.
Very cool.
Can it design Geneva gears?
can it be used ifor laser cuting and 3d printing
press and hold the set button it could be in setting mode
try a different battery (seems to fix most problems)
other than that, the bin is the best place
I'm having problems downloading the file on vista. I need a method and a size of gear that will allow one yank movement, thus one spin to close two opposite parallel surfaces
A nice addition would be the ability to have the center circle of a gear be a polygon.
This is incredibly helpful. Thank you.
wow. fabrication and mad programming skills, you are my hero sir
Hello there and congratulations! Juste wanted to say that it could be a great idea to do a version cheaper but for a limited period for the people who only need it for one project. As you can guess it was my case so i didnt wanted to spend 28$.

Mattias, программа интересная. Подскажи где можно скачать ?
Can I print with my ploter? i mean can i use a bigger paper?, and also Can i export it to AutoCAD?
I just tried buy the app but there was a server problem at your end.
Could you also add rpm to each gear shown
Hi Matthais . I bought gear generator in the passed for $25 .
However I somehow lost it when I change my phone and did some cleanup . How much is the price now thx.
Gary
same price. Or re-download using the link sent at the time of purchase
The undercut seems to be too extreme in most cases. The calculations need to include addendum modifications.
put a mark between the teeth, where it is necessary to to drill. Is it possible?
Great program! I'll buy it if an .svg export comes along!
is there a free download for your software sir? not the wobbly version . the real original software(not wobbly version)
If there was, people wouldn't buy the paid version.
oh i thought there was a free version of these because its Christmas time .ok thanks by the way
oh, you mean just like airlines mark down their ticket prices at christmas time???
Tell him that during the next live feed you do he should feel under his seat , just like on Oprah.
Is there a Mac version?
Software name please tell
see link in description
