Sargent, what a great example of your teaching. The Super dog is so amazing. He sure Keeps focused on you. Wow. I want to stay confident from here on out. Great videos. Keep looking for new ones. Thank you GSM. 😊
Great video with Sergeant the Super Dog! Yes, the long stay is the best way to start, because the dog will learn patience. I use hand commands as well, so my neighbors do not hear my voice on Sunday mornings. It is so stealth and powerful to watch your GSD obey hand commands, because they may come in handy one day!👍😱🐾
Hi German Shepherd Man, first off, I had to smile when you described Seargant's routine with visitors as the "Seargant show"🙂 Secondly, I liked your idea of training either a puppy or an older dog to do a long stay, then you could decrease the amount of time that you would have either the dog or the puppy stay in place. That makes sense that it would be harder for them to go from a short satay to a longer stay. I'm guessing that if you start them off on a long sit and stay, they are expecting that long sit and stay. Seargant is like "Dad! Dad! Dad! Give me the ball! Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase throw the ball! I want the ball! Yes! I want the ball!". As always, you have great methods and tips.
Hi Charles. Agreed, duration must be varied and increased till they will wait until released. If the dog moves, it must be put back and whole thing starts again. Nice correction. No going to a down unless commanded to. Sitting here nodding my head lol. Once you got a solid stay you can throw a ball and the dog will not move. Then the stay is fully proofed. I can go out of sight and be ages and Zed will not move until released,. even with balls thrown for pet dogs etc. Great content Charles. Always good to see you and Superdog. Now if Zed was GSD..... Wow : ) What pups they would produce : ) Thanks to all at GSD Land: )
Hey GSM I have a seventh month old German Shepherd and I have taught him stay he is really good with it if there’s no distractions such as other dogs but if I get around other dogs he will only stay for a couple of seconds
I really like your videos but it always takes so long to get to the actual content. This one didn’t get to the actual training until 4:35. Respectfully, can you jump into the training first then share stories at the end for those of us who are super busy but want your content? You are a great trainer and I appreciate your content.
My GS is 3 months old. Is that too young to start training for “stay”? I’ve tried treats (he doesn’t really have a favorite toy yet) and he’s not getting it. He starts to follow me as soon as I take a step and sometimes won’t return back to the same location. He’ll even lay down. I’m also using your hand signals. He knows sit. I work with him about 20 minutes a day and it’s been about a week since we’ve started “stay”. Is there anything else I’m missing? Thank you!
If you HAVE to, take him back to the starting place and do the same thing again. Don't let him train you...you train him. 20 minutes may be a little long. Don't train for a certain time but until they are "finished". Don't force anything...it is a K through 12 process. GSM
Hey GSM, my shepherd is 3 years, how difficult would it be to teach him commands like these now that he’s older? He knows “sit” but I would like to brush him up on some other commands
I have started some as early as 6 weeks and some just aren't ready until later. 8 weeks is a great time to begin, but take it slowly. It's a process...GSM
I have some videos about puppy biting but the best thing is to get my Puppy Training System. Not trying to sell you something, but that topic is addressed in much detail in the system: abts-of-dog-training.teachable.com/p/abts-of-dog-training/
German Shepherd man you better shave brother. You look 20 years older. Now your wife looks 30 years younger. 😉. I'm joking around radio man keep up the good work.
This is how I’m teaching my dog and he has been doing great. You’re the best
Excellent!!!!! GSM
THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO - I am going to be working hard on my hand signals; you promote them very well
You can do it!!!! GSM

Are there a Standard set of hand signals to use or just ones that you and your dog understand?
I have made these up over many decades. They work for me and my babies...GSM
I took your handsignals and made them my own :)
That is why I'm here...GSM
Thanks and greetings from Bavaria /Germany ✳️👍✳️👍✳️👍

If you know how they "think" it is really easy. I have an older puppy training system coming out soon...GSM
When should GSD puppy training begin?
I have started some as early as 6 weeks and some just aren't ready until later. 8 weeks is a great time to begin, but take it slowly. It's a process...GSM
GSM,
Do you have a snake problem where you are at in Florida?
I do not have a "problem" with snakes, but they are around. GSM
can you train a Gsd of 11months
Absolutely...GSM
Do you play very often or is he mostly just training?? 🤔
Playing is a way to train your dog.
Training is a very small part of our day...few minutes here and there. I am always looking for training "moments" though. GSM
We have missed Puppy Girl. Where is she?
She decided to go a different direction with her life...GSM
