  • This video walks through the various iterations of Atari 2600 consoles in my collection. I happen to have a number of different types and I explain some of the differences in this video. See my other UA-cam video for a walkthrough on my Atari 2600 games collection.

    Thank you for giving the A26 some love. In 1980-82, I would encourage my mom to go to Southern California Sears or Zodys just to jockey my way into the Kiosk room. They had the Oddessy 2 , Atari 5200, & ColecoVision that I could play for 3-15 minutes till the clerks demanded the kids to exit or find their parents to keep playing.

    Nice presentation Mike, I have 3 Atari 2600 VCS 4 Switch Woody's where one is an actual rare Sunnyvale console and the other two are Taiwan consoles. I bought my original Atari 2600 VCS 4 Switch Woody Sunnyvale at a local electronics store in late 1980 or early 1981 primarily because I wanted to have Space Invaders. My two Atari 2600 VCS 4 Switch Woody Taiwan consoles were bought at rummage sales in the 1990s because I actually wanted the cartridges that they were selling. In the real early 2000s I bought an Atari 2600 Junior as an afterthought. I still prefer to play my Atari 2600 video games over other game systems.

    Who was Atari Super Service? I don't think the games came with that sticker. But today I bought a 4-switch game manufactured on Sept.18, 1981. The date was pencil written on a piece of paper scotch taped to the motherboard. The board itself was printed C1980Atari. Mine has that red sticker on it too. Could it possibly be stuck on in factory?
    These consoles are indestructible. The game I found was caked in mud. It had obviously been left outdoors because of all the mud on and in it, and it had dead weed vines inside of it when I opened it up. The board is all oxidized and chalky white and muddy. I sprayed the PCB with dielectric cleaner and sprayed some wd40 in all the switches. It works like new. 30 bucks including all four controllers and a power pack. The joysticks both have broken inner rings, but the paddles work great, surprisingly, no jitter at all.

    You might want to exorcise that box. Grandma might want to come back to claim her box.

    Tip: if you take the console apart to clean it, don't shake the top of the case trying to dry it... it breaks easily :(

    Thanks for your comment. I will look to create some videos in the future with games and other related hardware. There is so much about the Atari 2600 that can be discussed.

    I have a question about the power jack issue. Does this problem apply to 4 switch models as well, or just the 6 switch model? I ask this because I bought a 4 switch woody and I want to take great care of it without damaging it.

    Hello. Mi atari 6-switch atari 2600 has no channel 2-3 port like you showed in the video, it has no written text at the back, since its made out of plastic. I don't even know if the switchbox works. Please send help.

    Youve most likely put all this back in storage, but any chance for some gameplay videos? perhaps showing off various joysticks/rarities etc?

    The only two consoles you are missing is the Sears verson and a sunny vale heavy sixer

      Mark over at CGR has one, with a nice box it sits on to store games in. Totally awesome, the fake walnut veneer is a nice touch.

    I have a Sunnyville, CA six-switch woody. How original is mine?

    • @davismv
      @davismv  10 років тому +3

      That would be a 100% original unit. That was made in California and is a well-desired console. Not any better per se, but one of the first well built ones.

    I got one 2600 like the one top left...connects to tv via coaxial cable. Can you verify if that's how it's connected pkease

      Atari's mainly used RF to connect to a tv unless you AV mod one.
