I've only ever heard bards play 3rd party music. if people are actually saying this they're being ridiculous, those fucking sub human asswipes at the music industry can't go after every bard that's ever played a song.

Yes, you can record them, but u have to censor their name/ hide your UI so you can't see their name/ zoom in or whatever. Ofc not every bard on youtube will get banned for 3rd party music - but it can happen. My friend got banned for it 2 years ago because he played zelda music and uploaded it to youtube.
I dont think these people get how copyright works. You cant be gone after for bard performances just the same as you cant get sued for playing piano covers of famous songs. Doing covers of songs isnt illegal and you wont get copyrighted.
The most impressive part is that it's not perfect. The slight delays and offkey notes - He's actually playing.

I was having a bad day once and was just queuing for a dungeon while waiting in limsa until one lala started playing theme songs for one of my favorite ff games and it actually made my day i withdrew and just stood there listening to them and I felt like I had to let them know that their performance made my day and I appreciate it they were so sweet and started playing more songs :( I appreciate bards a lot I think they create a safe little space for people to interact have fun and maybe even feel better if their day wasn’t going great
@@Edenville Im 1000% not a performer irl, but I LOVE playing my bard in cities and small towns, its always brought a smile to my face, and I know it makes others smile too. It's such a wonderful feature of the game

That's never ever going to be true, there will always be something more. The fans who grew up with this game will go on to make more like it, and improve upon it. The reason we have this game is because of endless ones before that people thought "there will never be another Everquest", Star Wars Galaxies, WoW, etc.
FFXIV was based off of WoW a game that there are millions like it, but nothing was like FFXI.
I said the same when ffxi was out now here we are .. nonetheless I believe this experience will be a positive mark on my life the same as ffxi
You can also play music in Guild Wars 2 & Lord of the Rings Online. They even have +10 instruments, it's pretty cool too.

@@gamer8622 actually I’ve been heavily debating playing a bard as I’m new to the game as well and just waiting for the trial to open back up and I love the fact this is possible. Playing music I genuinely enjoy playing (espically since I can actually use my Akai MK2 midi keyboard and actually play). My only concern is also wanting to have a valid build in raids. This is actually the thing that really showed me ffxiv’s community is so vibrant too!
@@Darkshadowguy you can always get archer to level 30 and unlock bard + the performance instruments and then switch to a stronger class! I went for bard as my starting class for the music playing as well, but once I hit level 30 I really started to dislike the skills and playstyle of it and switched classes, but now I can atleast switch to bard whenever I want to play songs
if you ever have the chance to see the songbirds play if they come to your server you should take the time, amazing stuff they do

These kind of performances are pretty much all using 3rd party software that convert midi files into keystrokes. Sorry to burst your bubble..

99% of them are just using a midi player, however you can occasionally find one who is actually playing (you can tell by the imperfect notes).

I learned a bunch of songs for my Bard music fun, but man, on PS4 with a controller, it can be a real bastard to you at times.

do any bards reading this play live with a midi controller? When I try to do it the input delay between what I'm playing and what I hear in the game is too much to ignore. I would have to mute the game and use something 3rd party to listen to myself play to make sure it was correct; is this what people do? I feel like it takes the life out of the performance since I essentially have to mute the game audio
Yeah it's like that for everyone. No polyphonic instruments is also an annoying issue

@@ChrisTopher-wl6pd The performance feature in FF14 is very very limited. Some examples are: you can only play within three octave ranges (C3 to C6). As for chords, they will have to be played as arpeggio because FF14 doesn't allow two notes being played at the same time. If you have 3 or more notes at the same time, it will sound pretty choppy. If you have internet or fps delay, you will lose notes.
I would rather record a song in midi file and play with third party tool.

If it helps, most bards playing songs like this are using MIDIs!
Most of us bards use FFBardMusicPlayer, it's a 3rd party program, and then you use the available midi list to download from. Unless you know how to make midis.

@@whitemoonwolf13 nope, not cash shop. lvl an archer to lvl 30, unlock bard job, then do a quest in gridanian to unlock performance mode.
And no you don't have to use the midi to play. But you do have to have some actual skill if you don't want to use the midi stuff.

Sounds nothing like the one available on the BMP website. There are enough mistakes and slowdowns to warrant it may have been manual.
@@peterfabell154 you don’t need to get it off the bmp website xD You can literally google any song and it’s midi and drag it in / tweak it to any way you want >.< I’ve been doing it for 2/3 years now lmfao. I’ve certainly met people who use midi keyboards, but they sound very different to this.
@@LE2Goldenhalk true, I've done this myself as well. Takes some fine tuning for the notes to play correctly in BMP though. So either this person manually corrected Rhapsody to play somewhat badly, or a manual attempt was made. There's a Discord out there that teaches manual techniques for bards in 14 (crystal academy), so it's not entirely improbable this was an attempt.
Mhm they could be playing manually, also I'm not good at playing but my piano has a cable I can connect to my PC and use a program to translate that into keystrokes to play ingame

Played ff14 before and always got intimidated by learning to play the instruments, I did learn the lyre in genshin though so how different is it compared to it?

You start off as an Archer, complete it's quest line (a quest every 5 levels up to 30) and then you can become a Bard. And once you unlock Bard, you automagically get the Performance ability with all the instruments fully unlocked.
@@Reyn_Roadstorm Not automatically, once you got bard at 30 doing class quests, you do another blue quest in Old Gridania (should be a lvl30), tis a very short quest and you'll get all the instruments for your barding wizardry.
They also added some E-Guitar to the game! Sadly, most fellow bards play with Midi Bots, which is still cool as some do the midis themselves. (basically mod that plays the song for you)
But sometimes you meet some real G's doing some original stuff by hand 🖐️
@@phrometaren I can only play a couple songs by hand live in-game without making mistakes (need to practice 40 hours!) but I use a software called Cakewalk to record the “perfect” versions of the songs I play then I upload it to Bard Music Player so I can play it in-game. It’s still technically me playing but a recording of my best version if that makes sense.
@@graysroksan Yeah a friend of mine uses a similar thing. He plays it on his piano and the audio line gets then imported over to the game.
I enjoy that nevertheless! After all it´s no race about who´s the most skilled. The only thing that bugs me is, that I rarely meet someone to actually play by hand with - duo wise. So you usually I just join in on their Midi and play some background with the cello or violin, since you can perfectly pair it up with that :D

Its basically just learning to play your controller as an instrument. As long as you have some music experience and can put notes to buttons, your basically fine. Just a matter of proper timing.
@@DerusGrindz I don’t doubt my musical knowledge will help me put things to together on the controller. I have yet to actually get my bard, so I haven’t tried yet. But I certainly do want to give it a shot

If the bard was using a midi 3rd party app to play this wouldn’t it... idk... sound better? There were many mistakes and pauses that lead me to believe that this was manually done. Bohemian rhapsody, as a song, is objectively not that difficult to play. And would you really go out of your way to purposefully play/have a bad record on midi(idk sounds foolish)? I’ll admit, I don’t know much about midi since I don’t use it myself(sounds like a hassle to get working and unrewarding), but to me, this does sound like it was done in earnest.
It is 100% a midi file played by a plugin. The imperfections you hear are because of latency and limitations of the engine.
Everyone here should know there's a mod that plays songs for you automatically

It sounds nothing like the actual song and has no vocals.. I can upload myself playing a cover song that actually sounds like a song with vocals and everything and not get hit with copyright so why couldnt you do this in-game?
I just dont see tthe reasoning especially considering the instruments in this game sound like Toddler-Music-Toys and sound nothing like real music / instruments and for the fact that I can upload myself playing guitar and singing a cover for a popular song and not get hit with any copyright issues so I think something like this, inside a game, not real instruments nor vocals, sounds nothing like a real song so algorithms wouldnt even be able to pick up on any of this, plus they're even crediting the song/artist in the titles (which is really the only way anyone would find out, lol) is way better than people doing cover songs.

I just started playing the game and started off with Archer / Bard, my biggest question is will I get banned if I play copyrighted music?? Like Bohemian in this case for example, I want to play some stuff like freebird or saul goodman theme for fun with my friends but Im scared i’ll get banned. Listening to the Bards running software is fine. You can find me in the forest playing manually with a midi keyboard. Really hard to make it sound decent playing one note at a time.

Whats the proper way to do this? I play a bard. I have a midi keyboard and I play piano. I also make MIDI files myself. Is it cheating if I play a song through the keyboard or make my own midi files? Seems to me people look down on MIDI but as a musician, scoring them is a talent in and of itself and anybody who makes them will tell you A) it's an art form and B) it's HARD.

we mostly use a software to play midis and all midis have to be handmade or at least tweaked (game only supports 3 octaves)
i did some midis of my own, and played midis of friends on the bard community

Not sure if youre aware but posting videos of the bards playing could result in that bard getting a ban since playing any copywrite music is kinda against ToS. People dont really care if it happens just in game, but once a video gets posted and seen enough, could end up being bad for the performer.
