I read the books before watching the series and my heart SKIPPED everytime he was onscreen because he is portrayed so perfectly and his character is just so awesome and I'm just... done! What I wanted to say is: yes. yes I flipped when that cane hit the table.
Never saw the show but I’m planning to after I binge all the books, just finished Six of Crows now going onto Crooked Kingdom - but - I just wish the cast for the crows were younger or more fitting to the actual age as described in the books? Or is the show supposed to be later in the timeline.. I’m confused pls someone enlighten me lol. But yea, pretty good casting maybe younger but I’m happy

The show's characterisation of Kaz is better than Bardugo's, imho. Show Kaz is more believable as a real person. It helps that he's been aged up, and that he's portrayed with more maturity. Perhaps that's what you're picking up on.

He looked so good in the first episode (I mean he always looked good but) just SO GOOD and it fit really, that was his introduction to us and it was perfect! Just the whole demeanor, his looks (he has such sharp features which is just so fitting for Kaz), the outfit, the hair everything was immaculate ✨
I love this character. I just laughed for 2 minutes straight. The music and the notes maked it even more funny! Thank you. The first episode I needed to get used to Freddy's face as Kaz. He can make these pouty lips sometimes. But man he is perfect for this role. I can't wait to see more of the Crows! Now I want to reread the books again.

Also, I have my theory about the "I'll make my own way" line. Kaz is an excellent magician. He just had to do anything with cards and boom, he was in the team. So why not ? It's not like he was afraid to be ridiculous or to play a role (we remember the ScULpToR). I think it's because of the troop leader (idk if it's the way you call it I'm french). The guy is REALLY friendly. And not just friendly. He's overly tactile. He touches Jesper's and Inej's arms and shoulders to welcome them in the team. He even hugs Jesper. And then, Kaz looks at them, seems to think for a few seconds, and says "I'll make my own way". Kaz just avoided contact.
let's be real here the milo being carried by kaz scene is what made everyone who fell in love with freddy carter while watching this show, fall in love with freddy carter
He's more overtly brutal and ruthless, but unlike Littlefinger he still has a core of decency under all the schemes and ambition, even if it is buried pretty deep.
Kaz has loyalty to give, and he has his own brand of honour. He's ruthless, but not malicious. And somehow all his mercenary jobs end up serving the greater good (as well as making him a profit). Kaz is a perfect antihero. Not exactly a good guy, but good enough to root for. Also, he has the excuse of becoming the brutal bastard he is as a means to survive, whereas Littlefinger is a simple social climber, and nothing but slime. Littlefinger makes Kaz look like a paragon of morality and compassion.

The casting for the crows was so on point it exceeded my expectations, especially Kaz
