    Nice easy install and high visual impact product. I think if I was a serious off-roader, I would prefer crash bars that don't transmit impact forces to the engine casings. Funny how I'm slowly warming to this odd KTM fuel tank design. Many thanks.

      @mancavemoto  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks Ray. Yeah there isnt a lot of options for places to mount to the frame on this bike. Adventure Spec said they use aluminium bars as they transfer less energy to the casing than steel. Essentially the bars are designed to be 'sacrificed' in a big crash to save the bike. I didnt like the tank when I first saw it, but its genius. The balance and handling of the bike is excellent, and keeping the weight low makes it feel lighter than the scales would suggest

    Cheers Tony, watched this video about 20 times as I fitted the black bash plate and bars to my 890 Adventure in grey. Took me a solid 3 hours, but I am very cackhanded!
    Couldn't figure out how I wasn't able to get the upper bars to catch the bolts into the engine. Thought you were mistaken about the shorter one on the RH, then I realised I'D made the cockup! They were on backwards and upside down!
    Cheers again Tony

      Agreed, I'll be removing the upper bars anyway. I havent laid the bike on its side yet to test, but i think the lower bars and handlebars will be the two points of contact with the road.

    I might have gone for black but Tony, I'd deffo go with crash bars. And I would also recomen those plastic protection blocks for top and bottom bars, save having scratched paint should it get dropped.

    I am 790R owner riding in on and offroad. And frankly the crash bars seems to be for me redundant, only doing the bike wider. Fuel tank covers do their job.
    What is worth is fuel pump cover to add some additional save space on fuel pump.
    And the skid plate as the original one is made from beer can or so.
    If you are planning offrading front end fairing brace would be good, I am planning to get one. And heat shield between cat and rear shock.

    I’d worry about the bars being attached to the engine, this could cause problems in a fast spill, so would rather take my chances without them. My 1290 SAR had been dropped a couple of times, but the attach points seem tougher. Another good and informative vid though, sir👌

    • @marklindemuth2958

    Totally off topic any ideas on how to make the big better on longer highway rides. After about 30 plus minutes on the highway at 70mph I start to get a lot of discomfort between my upper shoulder blades. This only happens on longer highway rides. I can seriously ride all day on local back roads and have zero discomfort
    Edit: I almost forgot. Great video

    • @mancavemoto
      @mancavemoto  3 роки тому

      Thanks. Maybe moving the bars to their more forward position would help. I felt i reached more for the bars on my Tiger, but maybe thats what made it comfortable on longer rides? But obviously that compromises your day to day riding.

    I wouldn't bother with the crash bars. Couldn't they damage the frame? The bash guard is a good addition. It looks good, too. But will it look so good when it's inevitably scratched. Having said all that, I have crash bars on my Duke 390, but it came like that.
    Another excellent review, Tony.

    Bash plate looks good. Really not convinced by the crash bars, firstly don't think they are needed, I've had admittedly fairly low speed drops on both sides offroad and the tank guard plates did a good job. I have two concerns about the crash bars: the mounting points don't look like they are designed to take much load, particularly the bracket bolted to the crankcase on the left. Secondly the lower crash bars look like they would increase the chances of catching on as something and digging in rather than sliding.

    • @mancavemoto
      @mancavemoto  3 роки тому

      I tend to agree, I think the plastic guards are all that’s needed. Adventure Spec did say that they make the bars from aluminium to help disperse the energy, same with the mounting plates to some extend. In a big crash they are going to become sacrificial. I won’t be leaving the bars on, but the bash plate is a nice piece of kit.

    Hi,Tony what’s your view on the lower crash bar which secure to the engine case instead of the frame?

    • @mancavemoto
      @mancavemoto  3 роки тому

      Personally I don’t think the 790 needs lower crash bars, thats taken car of by the saddlebag tank design. I’ve removed all the crash bars and just left the bash plate on. If they were steel I’d have a bigger problem with them being mounted to the engine, but their aluminium construction means they will deform in a crash and transfer less energy.

      @@mancavemoto If I did any sort of off roading I'd have the bash plate and lower tank protection, but as I'm just using it on the road and a big part of the appeal for me was the light weight I'll leave it as is.
