No, BLS destroyed it through battle not through its own effect, maybe learn some comprehension, using effects too buff his own monsters is not same as out right destroying or debuffing the opponents.
A monster effect didn't beat PEP. Besting over it did. Honest only indirectly helped beat PEP but without the actual attack it essentially would do nothing.
I only use old school decks and I won a match in my local tournament at my card shop a few years ago, guy had won all his matches in the first turn, he'd always do this fat 10 minute long combo and get a card with like 10-20k attack and couldn't be destroyed or removed from the field, then when he dueled me I won in one turn by using magic cylinder and killing him with one card haha. I lost the overall tournament cause I was using an old deck against spam decks but it worked on that guy so me happy.
I knew exactly what card was about to be played as soon as that attack was declared. I *honestly* would still play it if I ran decks with heavy light monsters.
@@whitesage922 But where's the subtly? I never mentioned a card name and yet everyone knows what card I'm referring too. There is being Coy, and there's being Loud, and I don't feel like yelling Do Dalalala la la... that would cause to much *chaos* for me.

@@SlayerPDX pot of greed being banned kinda makes sense. Every player would run it since it is a free +1 in card advantage and gets two cards out of your deck. You should definitely do that card pop up like you mentioned Kuriboh. It would help other to see what it look like and the effect for the newbies trying to understand what going on 👀
The only thing unrealistic about the old school end is someone actually playing Kuriboh in a competitive deck (which I assume that's part of the theming here, as BLS and Chaos Emperor Dragon are infamous for the first tier 0 deck in the game's history)
Honestly, what did he expect for dissing the cards. Let's do a challenge. Cut the age of Yu-Gi-Oh in half, no ban list. One deck made only with cards first released before that date, and one with only cards first released after that date. Who wins?
Cali: "You new school YuGiOh players think monster effects are the only thing that can destroy a monster" Me: *expecting some cool spell/trap interaction* Cali: *Activates a monster effect* Me: O-oh, ok then...
In general some old school strategies like beatdown decks can outplay all these negates. Won w/ Skull Servants quite a bit because of their massive attack
to be fair: Borrelsword is literaly this combo in a singel card, but always acessable from extra deck. so he simply was to sure of himself, thinking a Tower is all it takes to win in yugioh.
You always gotta be careful dueling new/ old school duelist cuz when you least expect it they pull out magic cylinder and you just take 9000 to the face and lose🤣
When I last played Yugioh like 18 years ago, my deck was a dark/light chaos themed deck, with Tyrant Dragon and Barrel Dragon thrown in for fun. Mirror Force, Magic Cylinder Sakuretsu Armor, Raigeki, Harpies Feather Duster, Chaos Emperor Dragon, Black Luster Soldier Envoy, Chaos Sorcerer, the Jammer traps, Witch of the Black Forest, Cyber and Fiber Jar, Scapegoat... good old school fun yugioh. Now its like a whole different game I can't even follow.
This reminds me of a friend that played in s tournament for funsies. This was in the early xyz era, so Synchros were everywhere and some xyz started popping up. I don't remember the decks, but my friend was losing, hard, against another guy. My friend starts the turn, draws and, inmedietly summons Time Wizard. The other is looking at him with a WTF face while my friend is reaching for a coin. He managed to win 2 coin tosses in a row, so, for 2 turns, he was able to attack directly, winning the game.
Im a old school yuigioh enjoyer, but only got into actually dueling when new school yugioh stuff happened... To be fair...it may sound primitive, but part of me loves old school dueling logic, and 3 of my favorite devks exclude the extra deck. One is a fiend inspired deck that works off taking control of my opponents monsters and/or tributing them to cripple my opponent. Another is a pretty decent monarch deck that is my "boomer" deck. And...then there is my baby, my pride and joy...my dino deck...it just feels "right" to use...it scratches a primal instinct of "big dino smash" yet has opponents forget that its gimmicks allow clever play as well... Funniest and quickest duel i had was literally a opponent activating a trap on my second turn that somehow when chained with another banished my entire deck aside from my starting hand after my draw phase...in any other circumstance i would have been boned...especially as they had a monster that while face up with this card was indestructible with a equip card and had 2 to 3k attack... I looked at him, derpily played tyrano inffinity...and subsequently had a monster whose attack was 30-40k attack (i ran a big 60 card deck over 40 for just a bit more variety) and attacked said monster...the bleed through damage waa enough to end it turn 2. It was frankly my favorite victory for how blunt, simple, and frankly "given" it was.
No, he claims that monster effectes aren't the only way to BEAT MONSTERS. As in use a monster effect to outright destroy another monster. Instead, he uses a monster effect to buff his monster enough that it can destroy the other monster through raw power.
Basic law of Yu-Gi-Oh: every card has its use and effect. Once you underestimate a card, you're done. Literally the first lesson I learned from Duelist Kingdom against Kaiba
I still remember a day when my red-eyes darkness dragon and five-headed dragon beat a Norse god deck after holding out for as long as possible until my opponent ran out of cards in their graveyard to revive their gods
Old school still hits hard. I took down a Gren Maju deck without a single hit, using cards like Waboku, Swords of Revealing Light, Mimicking Man-Eater Bug, and a few good Fortune Lady monsters. And that Gren Maju was on the field with 11,000+ attack. You just can't beat the old Yugi classic of Swords!
My favorite Old School is convulsions of nature. Pair that with Hazy Flame Sphinx and it's a neat trick. One flips the deck so you can see the next card and one special summons a (fire) monster from you hand or grave if you call the type of your next card correctly.
"Youd be wise not to disrespect the older school yugioh cards my friend" is such a real line. Even say you replace kuriboh qith magic cylinder. Shit still would have been game
New/current Yu-Gi-Oh goes WAY above and beyond in it complexity, I wish the game would go back several years at least... That way I could still enjoy it. I miss being able to ruin people with my Endymion Spell Counter deck, and my Gladiator Beast deck. 😢
I ran a Galaxy Dragon Deck for a minute in Master Duel and it was actually a pleasant surprise to see a Eldlich Deck (haven't played since it was new) cause Galaxy decks have a card that deals will all spell and trap cards from the grave. Galaxy Cyclone, I send it to the grave and leave a couple there.
Synchros and xyz’s and pendulems pissed me off so much I rebuilt a deck I designed 2005 ish. A deck I like to call “The Deck That Never Ends”. This deck removes the gy, negates all monster effects, denies special summoning and prevents the opponent from attacking and allows me to endlessly remove from play (and return them to the deck) all monster cards while I gain 500 lp for each card each time I do this. Many new school “duellists” refuse to duel me. I’ve updated the deck somewhat nowadays and apart from 4 cards is still an old school deck.
I have an old yugioh power of chaos game on pc. I still boot it up every few months to play. Feels good to play a game that isnt already decided by the time i draw a second card.
Yugioh between 2008-2015: Im gonna play solitaire on my turn and youre gonna watch me do it. Yugioh now: im gonna play solitaire on YOUR TURN and youre gonna watch me do it.
Im re-learning to play yugioh again. And actually finding it quite fun. One reason being, alot of current meta, cant handle with some off the wall strategies. For example. You can summon the strongest, most hard to kill monster with as many material and effects as you want...Cant do jack if you sac it for a lava golem XD. Next, Monarchs...Oh man do people hate them. I have started a match, played one Monarch card, and had them quit the match. Third. Some archtypes like Eldlitch are so simple, and so fun. No links, no syncros, not xyz's. He is a beast and the deck works so well. Then, like this guy proved, people get into a rhythm with there decks...Its like it has to work like a well oiled machine, otherwise, they are lost. Start the chain, and just let it run. Well, there are cards that can mess up your opponents that they havent seen, or never played against. Macro cosmos control is a fun one. But yeah, im more of a fan of Battle Fader then Kuriboh (i know, but hey) and Honest is really a game turner. And as others have said, no one expects a magic cylinder...
I would love for there to be a tournament that is old school Yugioh only. No synchro tuner b.s, no having your opponents summon 5 monsters and play 20 cards in their first hand. Just simple dueling
yeah so psychic end punisher has this little line of text on its print, I don't think you hear them say it, because they mention it very briefly after he summons bls, but it says that it is unaffected by its opponent's activated card effects, which includes magic cylinder, and if you think that changes nothing, you have to understand, for magic cylinders to deal damage, the attack of the monster must be negated, and since the attack won't be negated, he's not taking any damage.
I started in a generation where link was new, I can never truly understand old school Yu Gi Oh! Just glad I could play today with my spellbook dogmaitka.

Me too.
Snatch steal is an activated effect. Psychic End Punisher is unaffected
@@Medbread That is 100% true, I must've suffered from player can't read syndrome because I thought the card said "Unaffected by activated monster effetcts"
@@Weareonenation303Nope, you were correct the first time. Using Snatch Steal on PEP, not the monster effects part. You can steal PEP with Snatch Steal. It doesn’t have an effect upon activation, but it applies a continuous effect on PEP therefore bypassing its unaffectedness. It’s… a ruling thing.

One of the scariest things I've encountered lately was just your regular old Celtic guardian equip with a moon mirror shield
Moon mirror shield can be really annoying if you don't have an out available when it's played. My buddy likes to run it when we're playing with our casual decks
Hahaha that plus 100 is nice

THIS.

The damage step is pretty awesome.
Remember beating End Punisher with Starving Fusion Venom Dragon. He was like "it's unaffected!!". Yeah but my card just gains the attack. Anyway, he had 1000 left, that was game and he rage quit.

Psychic End Punisher is only unaffected by your opponents activated effects if your LP are lower than your opponents. In this duel, you showed PEOs controller as having higher LP, meaning it could have been hit by BLS regardless
But if would still be the wrong play, when you can just hit for 12000 damage.
"you just think monster effects are the only way to beat a monster" and then proceeds to use a monster effect to get over it.

@@cage5577 me too😂 I've won games with it.

Remember this new players, there is a reason the ban list consists of somewhere around 10-25% first-second generation cards.
No there is no particular reason other then them being strong cards at the time.
There is absolutely no reason for monster reborn to be banned OR pot of greed. Limited maybe but not banned. They are no where NEAR as strong as cards we have now.
@@SlayerPDX pot of greed being banned kinda makes sense. Every player would run it since it is a free +1 in card advantage and gets two cards out of your deck. This makes decks more consistent, which means going first is even better with more cards to work with.
Monster reborn I can see getting unbanned since it requires a graveyard to be set up, which is a little harder to do and it more of a one for one trade.
@@SlayerPDXbro pot of desires,a card that banishes 10 cards off the top of your deck and is a hard otp, is still hit. Literally every deck would run Pot of Greed
@@tripleaaabattery8480 that's not true but some players just ain't on that level I guess
@@SlayerPDX all right, not every deck, since some decks really want certain cards in the grave, and drawing into them might make it harder. i think there was a recent masochist banlist tournament where there was one person out of everyone who didn't play pot of greed and they won. still, i think very few decks would say no to a free consistency booster like pot of greed.

In general some old school strategies like beatdown decks can outplay all these negates. Won w/ Skull Servants quite a bit because of their massive attack
Respect the HOTC moment. Also, never too old for Yu-Gi-Oh
to be fair: Borrelsword is literaly this combo in a singel card, but always acessable from extra deck. so he simply was to sure of himself, thinking a Tower is all it takes to win in yugioh.

haha remember ring of destruction???
The Pharoah would have been so proud. Give this dude a Millenium Item.
He used kuriboh and it sent chills up my spine. Then he banished light and dark and I knew what was happening next.
You made me cheer on the side of Honest... In my wildest dreams I would have never thought that would be possible XD.
“AREN’T YOU TOO OLD YET?!?!” Loved that
Kuriboh + Honest ? You got my respect dude
My opponent playing with Psychic End Punisher: Nah, I'll gonna beat you
My H.A.M.P in my hand: Let me tribute this man's whole carrer.
"You think monster effects are the only way to beat a monster" proceeds to use a monster effect to help beat a monster.
Claims monster effects aren’t the only way to win, Proceeds to use a monster effect to win game.
Dude just used my favorite monster, I'm happy.
Ran a fun tournament thing in the community for traditional format just between friends. It wasn't kuriboh but battle fader came in clutch
Honest was menace to society for years 😂
“You think monster effects are the only way to beat a monster” no better words have been said
New School Yu-Gi-Oh player: Aren't you too old yet!?
Me: Oh, I don't know. How long was your combo for Psychic End Punisher?
Those Egyptian gods in the back go hard!!!
I remember all the crazy stuff you had to do to make a busted deck in old school Yu-Gi-Oh. Fear and respect the old cards.
"You guys think monster effects are the only way to beat a monster" proceeds to win using 2 monster effects
Just simple dueling
people forget how long ago Maxx C was printed, so it's an old-school card.
😏
When you play a single dimensional fissure and all fifty of your opponents deck engines just stop working 🤣
a face down magic cylinder on the other side would of been hilarious. "oh i do respect old school cards"
yeah so psychic end punisher has this little line of text on its print, I don't think you hear them say it, because they mention it very briefly after he summons bls, but it says that it is unaffected by its opponent's activated card effects, which includes magic cylinder, and if you think that changes nothing, you have to understand, for magic cylinders to deal damage, the attack of the monster must be negated, and since the attack won't be negated, he's not taking any damage.
I started in a generation where link was new, I can never truly understand old school Yu Gi Oh! Just glad I could play today with my spellbook dogmaitka.
Humbling a person playing a newer deck with old cards is the best feeling ever.
Man, I still play with old school light/dark deck with chaos emperor dragon, black luster soldier, gorz, honest, etc. And it feels so good winning agains meta decks haha
This guy just said: “My grandpa’s deck has no pathetic cards, Kaiba”
The amount of Games I won with Honest and Kalut back in the day man 😂😂
