One of the things that make Buddhism so healthy is that there is no requirement for us to become a Buddhist, rather there is an invitation to take the best we can from it to become a better what you already are.
Buddhism isn't about 'becoming' or 'better' in any way. Those are ego-fixations. The only thing Buddhist practice invites is awareness - nothing more, nothing less.
@Donald Robertson We should always accept the reality and try to fix the problem But I am talking about the buddhist view of suffering The second noble truth of buddhism says that all suffering is caused by desire or craving and the third noble truth says that Suffering can be eliminated by annihilating all desires I don't understand how one can stop suffering by Annihilating all desires We humans will always experience suffering It is not an illusion If a person breaks our bones then we will experience suffering no matter what There is no escape of the pain and suffering I don't think this method is practical How can a person live without any desire ? Thank you
@@therationalagnostic2735 Hi friend, Buddhism is like a home that has 2-3 floors and many rooms so please study it . There are many books about Buddhism written by westerners .
This is amazing!! Buddhism philosophy has precede all the modern science esp the psychological aspect. The Buddha definitely didn’t ask anyone to worship him or believed what he said, he encouraged everyone to find proof by themselves. He didn’t try to get followers by threatening them with hell or luring them with heaven. He was perhaps the first human being who advocated other human beings to wake up & believe in their own inner capacity that they could change themselves and seek their own salvation without depending on the belief of there is someone who is greater than us. We have all the potential to transform and be absolutely happy.
The above is "a very true" and "very fair assessment" indeed. The Lord Buddha, had, other then "never threaten" people with "Hell" for "Not believing " in Him and His "Teachings", also "never promise Heaven" to all those who "believe in Him" and "His Teachings" . He had also "forbidden His disciples" from using any of the various "Supernatural Psychic Powers " which have been attained by them", (and which "have also been attained" by many other " more advanced Yogis") , "thru long, hard and strenuous years " of "Meditation training " and "practices " , to lure the public into "believing in Him" and " His Teachings" and also into "becoming His followers". He had, "on the contrary", in fact "also criticised " those using these "Supernatural Psychic powers" to "attract", "impress" and to "lure others " into "believing in them ", by "using what He had termed as "cheap tricks" , which is " similar" to using "dancing girls" at a "Concert", in order to "attract a larger audience" to their Concerts.
Buddhism is not only a religion its philosophy. Its the only religion equally going with science and philosophy its the way of life and how universe works
@@garystevenson5560 Well thatbwas more for people who already have some level of insight into their own minds through meditation or similar experiential ways. I attribute my one amd only magic mushrooms trip for helping me to start questioning my perceptions and seek out meditation teachers. Just like how a blind person cannot understand what its like to see light and shadow, what the difference is between brightness and darkness. So does an untrained mind not comprehend the difference between suffering and liberation. I was amazed how simple and clear this all becomes while on my first 10day silent meditation course, like riding a bike, it can seem impossible at first, but keep trying and anyone can get the hang of it. I am so immensly grateful for the people who brought these courses to my country. Otherwise I may have never discovered such an invaluable gift. I wish you all the veey best 🌱🌳
I'm reminded of a Bruce Lee quote: "Again let me remind you Jeet Kune Do is just a name used, a boat to get one across, and once across it is to be discarded and not to be carried on one's back."
@Buro Dackel Well, he was always interested in philosophy as a means to explore the underpinnings of martial arts. Oh, and he also majored in philosophy at university. On the other hand your responses in this thread consist of vulgarity and poor grammar. Not exactly the stuff of lofty philosophic rhetoric. LOL!
@Buro Dackel Bruce Lee didn't believe in woo either. He believed in results.
Absorb what is useful, Discard what is not, Add what is uniquely your own. Empty your mind; be formless, shapeless - like water. Now you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup, you put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle, you put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend It’s not the daily increase but daily decrease. Hack away at the unessential. When one has reached maturity in the art, one will have a formless form. It is like ice dissolving in water. When one has no form, one can be all forms; when one has no style, he can fit in with any style. All fixed set patterns are incapable of adaptability or pliability. The truth is outside of all fixed patterns.
These are some quotes that illustrate the philosophy that led to JKD. Many top-tier martial artists credit Lee with planting the seed that became MMA, so that's a result of Lee's philosophical explorations. That canoe quote is another example and differentiates between means and ends. So Buddhism isn't necessarily an end (truth as the OP claims) but a means to an end and one of many means to the same end.
I really appreciate Robert Wright combining evolutionary psychology and buddhism. So much to learn from this that addresses our persistent human problems
@@fontofgod Wow I think you need to go back to pre school and learn how to talk to people and respect other people's beliefs/Religions. What a Shame you're embarrassing yourself extremely.
Buddhism is a way of learning one's own mind behaviour. When you heard someone talking bad about you, how do you feel. When you saw someone dropping a bag full of cash infront of you or a handsome young man or beautiful woman walk straight to come to talk to you. How is that effect you? Lord Buddha called it craving ie. sexual, anger, greed, upset etc. It has a power to force one to behave the way the craving desire ones to do. All those craving or emotions have one thing in common...they last in one's own mind as long as one hold on to it and will let go eventually. It's called "impermanence" just like everything in the universe which born..exist..decay and die. The problem is we just don't let go of them soon enough. People who build up a habit of upsetting will soon become depress if don't know how to get rid of those bad emotions until it become very depress and the feeling then become unberable and want to escape from the suffering. You can find suicidal fall in this catagory. Mind once trained to build up SATI or self awareness solid enough to live just in present moment would be able to let go those bad emotions better and the impact will be a lot less than ordinary people. The root cause of all the suffering is "a holding element" which is a part of mind. To eliminate "a holding element" is the ultimate goal of Buddhism and the state of mind without a holding element left is called "Nirvana" but to achive that require a long hard work in meditation. For ordinary people to get rid of those bad emotions in everyday life, there is a simple solution " take a long deep breath a few time with a wish to get those emotion out" it will reset one's own mind to normal. "A few long deep breath a day will drive bad mood away"

This is very cohere with what Yuval Noah Harari mentioned in his book about meditation and a lot of intelligent individuals I've followed expressed many times that they accepted Buddhism as one of the best philosophies. I'm a Buddhist and I am seeking the truth from seeing it through many lenses both Western views and Eastern views. The more I've dug in, the more I've found coincidence between the philosophy, psychology, and science. It always amazes me
I found the reason to the birth of atoms. And it agrees with Buddhism too. According to Buddhism Suddhāṭṭhaka (“suddha” for “pure” or fundamental” + “āṭṭha” or “eight”) means a unit of matter consisting of eight fundamental entities. Four of these are the “satara mahā bhūta“ (The Four Great Bhūta. Bhūta is another name for “ghost” because of their elusive nature.): Pathavi (Solid/Earth), āpo (Liquid/Water), tejo (Heat/Fire), vāyo (Gas/Air). These are indeed the most fundamental units of matter, but they cannot be detected by themselves. The four mahā bhūta ('Matter') are with four basic “gati” ('Character of Matter'/ 'Antimatter'): Pathavi gati (hard/coarse), āpo gati (bound/attracted/liquidity), tejo gati (fiery or energetic), vāyo gati (motion). Thus, in Buddha Dhamma, it says, “gati (character) attracts a similar gati”. (*Read more about "The Origin of Matter - Suddhāṭṭhaka" at Pure Dhamma website.) According to my mathematical calculations the Universe can make two objects (Matter and Antimatter) using the 6 gaps of the 6 directions: (+0-0)3 x (+0-0)3 = Matter x Antimatter According to this mathematical formula (a+b)2=a2+2ab+b2 we can write (+0-0)2 as 02 - (+1-(-1)) x 0 x 0 + 02 (+0-0) x (+0-0) x (+0-0) x (+0-0) x (+0-0) x (+0-0) = (+1-(-1))3 x (+0.0-0.0)3 (+1-(-1))3 can make 8 dimensional forms of space with a nature of Matter and Antimatter which can cause to convert those 8 dimensional forms of space into 16 quantum dimensional forms of space like Quarks, forces and etc. (+0.0-0.0)3 can make extra dimensions, Higgs boson and etc. Possible or Probable Outputs of (+0.0-0.0)3 (+0.0-0.0)3 = (+0.0-0.0)x(+0.0-0.0)x(+0.0-0.0) The Most Possible Output: (+0.0-0.0)3 = (0.02 - (+1-(-1)) x 0.0 x 0.0 + 0.02)x(+0.0-0.0) = ((+1-(-1)) x 0.000 - (+1-(-1)) x 0.000)x(+0.0-0.0) = ((+1-(-1)) x (0.000 - 0.000))x(+0.0-0.0) (+0.0-0.0)3 = ((+1-(-1)) x (0.000 - 0.000)) x (+0.0-0.0) I write it like this for identification: (+0.0-0.0)3 = (+(1)-(-(1))) x (0.000 - 0.000) x (+0.0-0.0) Now we can combine the results of (+0.0-0.0)3 with the results of (+1-(-1))3 to see the most possible total result: (+1-(-1))3 x (+0.0-0.0)3 = (+ (+1)3 - ((+1)3 x (-1) - ((-1)2 x (+1)2)) + (-1)2 x (+1) - (+ (+1)2 x (-1) - ((+1)2 x (-1)2 - ((-1)3 x (+1))) + (-1)3)) x (+(1)-(-(1))) x (0.000 - 0.000) x (+0.0-0.0) (+1-(-1))3 x (+0.0-0.0)3 = (+ (+(1))(+1)3 - ((+(1))(+1)3 x (-1) - ((+(1))(-1)2 x (+1)2)) + (+(1))(-1)2 x (+1) - (+ (+(1))(+1)2 x (-1) - (+(1))((+1)2 x (-1)2 - (+(1))((-1)3 x (+1))) + (+(1))(-1)3) - (+ (-(1))(+1)3 - ((-(1))(+1)3 x (-1) - ((-(1))(-1)2 x (+1)2)) + (-(1))(-1)2 x (+1) - (+ (-(1))(+1)2 x (-1) - (-(1))((+1)2 x (-1)2 - (-(1))((-1)3 x (+1))) + (-(1))(-1)3))) x (0.000 - 0.000) x (+0.0-0.0) It gives 16 results and this unbalanced result (Higgs boson): (0.000 - 0.000) x (+0.0-0.0) Now I can show all the most possible results (the 16 dimensional forms in atoms called quarks, forces and etc) like this: Distance of Directions in beginning of the Universe: (+0-0)6 = i: (+1-(-1))3 ii: (+0.0-0.0)3 = ( This should be the Pure Eight (Pali: Suddhātthaka) in Buddhism: Solid, Liquid, Heat, Gas, Character (Pali: Gati) Of Solid, Liquid, Heat, Gas) A: + (+1)3 B: - ((+1)3 x (-1) C: - ((-1)2 x (+1)2)) D: + (-1)2 x (+1) - ( E: + (+1)2 x (-1) F: - ((+1)2 x (-1)2 G: - ((-1)3 x (+1))) H: + (-1)3) )) x ii: (+0.0-0.0)3 = ( This should be the 12 elementary particles (of matter) and 4 basic forces in Standard Model (in particle physics). 12 Elementary particles: (6 quarks:) up, charm, top, Down, Strange, Bottom and (3 electrons:) electron, muon, tau and (three neutrinos:) e, muon, tau. And it is the first part of 'The Theory Of Everything'. - W. Suresh Madusanka I'm making another mathematical formula from this (+0-0)6 = (+1-(-1))3 x (+0.0-0.0)3 mathematical formula. And then I'll solve it to get the final result from it. I'm going to use my new mathematical formula with the MASS of the particles in standard model to find the speed of light or something like that. Maybe it will be very difficult to solve that mathematical formula to find the speed of light from it, because it is a big mathematical formula which is based on the standard model in particle physics. However, currently I don't know whether it will give me the correct speed of light or not. I didn't know about the standard model in particle physics when I started to make that calculation around 2 years ago. I just received 8 dimensional formations from it in the beginning, but few weeks ago I just continued that calculation to get the final result, and then I found another dimension (MASS dimension) from it which converted it into 16 dimensional formations with another things (Higgs boson). There are 17 things in the standard model too.
Buddhism is atheism. There's no concept of God in buddhism. Everything thing is transient in this universe- this is one of the core principles given by buddha. This principles goes against the concept of an everlasting God who created this universe. I am a buddhist and I am atheist ⚛ so was buddha.
There are five virtues: 1. Virtue of be kind to living beings. 2. Virtue of dispassion . 3. Virtue of sincerity . 4. Virtue of truth. 5. Virtue of knowledge.
Alan Watts nailed the whole buddhism and eastern religion thing way back in the 60s and he had much deeper understanding, Buddhism cannot be explained simply, to understand Buddhism, it needs to be pondered. Notice that teachers of Buddhism almost always never answer your questions with an straight answer but with another question or something seemingly irrelevant.
But Robert Wright has the scientific chops to validate the claims made in Buddhist philosophy. Alan Watts, while a great popularizer of Buddhism in the west, did not.
When you say teachers of Buddhism almost always never answer your questions with a straight answer; wow! That's a serious accusation; I wondered what Buddhist teachers you have come across. There is only one question that the Buddha did not answer, but he answered all the questions posed to him either straight or using parables. The teachers you have met may not have enough knowledge to cover what the Buddha taught, unfortunately.

Meditation only one part of Buddhism. Buddhism is an education. The principle of Buddhism is to break through all superstitions and delusions. Buddhism can perfectly solve all afflictions and problems. It enables us to obtain true and ultimate benefits by creating fulfilling lives, happy families, harmonious, societies, prosperous nations and a peaceful world.
Without trying to prove the validity of monotheism, I would like to note that those religions claim that god is the most important truth, but he lies outside this world. Likewise Buddhism claims that the most profound experience lies beyond concepts. This seems to be almost another world -- to live without concepts. In other words, there is a rough resemblance between the two attitudes -- Buddhism and monotheism.
@@johnstewart7025 The reason Eastern religions typically disavow concepts and labels is because by virtue of them being concepts and labels they categorize things and put them into constraining boxes so that it's difficult to see how everything relates to each other and how everything is oneness at the end of the day. Talking about things in terms of concepts and labels is to fragment them into only that which language can process. This is why many Buddhist monks take vows of silence, because language can be very perceptually limiting.
@@loganleatherman7647 Yes I agree. I am just trying to argue that some monotheists will make almost buddhist like statements about God being beyond anything we can conceive. Or that our minds are too puny to understand God. Of course, there is also the Brahman concept of the ground of being beyond all things or personalities. And monotheists usually try to hang on to the concept of God being a person.
Many of the points discussed in the talk (such as likes and dislikes that influence one to re-tweet something, etc.) happen due to the attachments we have towards the 'five aggregates.' Zen Buddhism is the time to not pray for good, not to think evil, to understand the present well, not to hold on to consciousness. Let go of all states of mind inside, external object, that is Zen Buddhism, also called the truth.

Selflessness or emptyness mean = Only dependent
An important point about mindfulness is that what makes our brains special is the ability to be self-reflective, to be aware of our thoughts and feelings and reactions inside "us" produced by our perceptions of what is outside "us". You can do this all day long, not just 20 min in the morning, but you have to realize the importance of the practice to maintain it, just as brushing your teeth. Does it "improve" morality? An agressive reaction is more likely to worsen a situation than improve it - that's why we developed a rational brain (evolutionarily) to increase the chances we could come up with an outcome that didn't damage us. Hence "Do unto others..." should become more likely with mindfulness: stop and think of the consequences! All these complex concepts - self, soul, morality, even consciousness - are illusions in the sense that they mean different things to different people, but they are real because we can discuss them. They are relationships, like the term "family", that are different for everyone, but we still understand each other when using the terms.
I like how Robert Wright responded to the questions that were directed to him at the end. I just wanted to make the point however that talking about evolution, tribes, about the brain, etc., is one epistemology (a way of knowing), and talking about the mind and its workings is an entirely different epistemology. It is best not to mix the two. (Sometimes these two epistemologies are referred to as ‘conventional reality’ and ‘ultimate reality.’)
Eric Sierra-Franco: It is best not to mix the two because they represent vastly different epistemologies (somewhat comparable to figure-ground representation of a Gestalt image). The following article describes these two different ways of understanding (check out the subsection: “Two Levels of Analyses” in the article): Karunamuni, N.D. (2015). The Five-Aggregate Model of the Mind. SAGE Open, 5 (2).
I asked you why they should not be combined, and all you did was repeat yourself, not answering the question. Additionally, in the field of philosophy mixing these issues may be verboten; but Wright is not a philosopher. Wright's background is in evolutionary psychology, which, as its name suggests, combines evolutionary science with the scientific study of the psyche.
@@ericsierra-franco7802 It is the ‘psyche’ that carries out scientific studies of the ‘psyche.’ In other words, the inquirer is interlocked with the item under inquiry - this is why it is best to study the two separately.

It's not enough to come to a decision that Buddhism might be 'true'. That is as if you have been sitting in a cave at the foot of a mountain debating whether or not there really is a mountain and after many years you finally accept that there is - that is not going to get you to the top of the mountain, you have to gather your equipment, learn about the various paths, find a good guide, train yourself and make sure you are fit, walk out of the cave and say farewell to the other cave-dwellers then eventually.. take your first step on the road to the summit.
Well, the Central Teachings of Buddha are true. Millions and Millions of people, over the last 2000 + years, have verified it themselves. Today, Modern Science is verifying it Scientifically, thereby making it objectively clear that it is true. However, the credit still goes to Buddha and the other Ancient Indians for discovering it all ...
Mindfullness meditation is universal it could be applied to anything. It was there before Buddha came to this world. It teach to West by Buddhist monk it doesn't mean it is Buddhist meditation. Buddha learn from present meditation from Hindu at the time when he was searching truth in those Six Years.
Buddhist teachings is to help one breaks through delusion and be awakened, then one can leave sufferings and attain happiness. Buddhist Dharma is very practical. Learn now and immediately one can apply the teachings. Now you learn, immediately one can apply it. One will immediately leave sufferings and attain happiness. If the result is not now , how can you leave sufferings in the future? If we cannot enjoy it now, who would believe in the future? Learn now and immediately put into use , one will enjoy the results now. This is true wisdom. The true benefits of Buddhist Teachings. It's extremely difficult to meet a good Teacher. To encounter Master Chin Kung and learn from him is truly inconceivable. This lifetime is our best opportunity to attain birth into Western Pureland

I'd say more so that what we ignore is our actual conscious states. Feelings we have far too much of, not enough rational reflection. But our actual consciousness is something hardly anyone in the West pays attention to. That's why most Westerners who do start meditating find it so shocking when they start to notice that their thoughts arise rather than feeling like their thoughts are authored. Meditation bestows clarity that lets you "see" your own consciousness in this way. We in the West have never really had anything that allowed for this.
In todays World ....which we made unfortunately so Wild .. We all need to go more Spiritual Paths rather than stucked in some dogmas , or in religious beliefs ... And ofcource with the Science .... Big Time 🙏🙏🙏
meditation is a funny thing. if you see it as another way of beating the game of life you gonna lose. just focus on the here and now. feel youre self and realax for a moment. no need to empty youre mind.

Buddhism does not function without the belief of kamma, rebirth and infinite time, samsara is an unprovable concept. Depending on the tradition people also pray to devas. Just because it doesn't function like a western religion doesn't mean it's not a religion.
"Asian Buddhism" is an oxymoron at best, and a meaningless overgeneralization at worst. Theravada Buddhism is practiced in Sri Lanka, and Thailand. The actual details of that practice are very, very different in the two countries. In Thailand, the people and the monks mix aspects of Hinduism, Buddhism, and local animist ideas and practices. A Buddhist temple will often have statues of the Buddha alongside statues of Ganesh and Shiva. There are statues of Brahma, the Hindu god of creation, all over the place. Often he is placed in the shrine house outside every building in Thailand. The concept of Brahman, the universal overarching reality that subsumes the other gods is understood in Thailand as well. Vajrayana and Mahayana practices are quite different from each other and Theravada. Robert Wright does not seem to have an adequate grasp of the subject. Meditation is highly valued by the lay people in Thailand, and Sri Lanka. Monks that meditate are given greater respect than those that don't.
the differences caused because there was no buddha existed in the first place! around 25-75 BC con artists of sri lanka wrote down Buddhism with creating an imaginary charactor of Buddha, then later these tales spreaded to the other parts of asia and they created their own versions!
Meditation in Christianity is prayer. I think that Christianity can recover lost essence with the help of other faiths. Christianity is much bountiful religion. It can comprehend all faiths. With understanding of other faiths, Christianity can be more graceful. I think that Christians are open- minded. They can lead many to HOLY.
That is not true at all. Prayer had nothing to do with Meditation. Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, Muslims etc etc also pray. Yoga and Meditation bave nothing to do with Prayer. It's Practical Philosophy, aimed at improving our lives and living peacefully and harmoniously ...

@@fontofgod The historical Buddha doesn't have to have existed for Buddhism to be true, just like Einstein doesn't have to have existed for E=MC^2 to be true. The truth is the truth regardless. That's another big advantage Buddhism has over christianity, which completely falls apart if any part of the story is false (which it appears many parts are false, not to mention absurd).
Buddhism only tells who you are not and that there is no self, which is half knowledge. Hinduism claims you are the Self which is manifesting in each and every body. The joy of knowing who you are and seeing your self in each being is the ultimate joy, ananda we humans are here to realize and experience.
Wrong man, Buddhism says self is an illusion - something which we have the wrong perception. The sole aim of Buddhism is alleviation of human suffering. llusion ɪˈluːʒ(ə)n/Submit noun an instance of a wrong or misinterpreted perception of a sensory experience.
we have a wrong perception of ourselves, which means we can have a right perception of who we are and our true Self which is one in all. Hinduism talks about this Self and abiding in it to live with sense of oneness and at the same time enjoy the multitude experiences and illusions born out of it... Buddhism claims there is no self which is incomplete knowledge, Hinduism shows the way to your true Self!!
What is a self ? What is a car? Is it the engine, gear box, tires, steering wheel etc? It's a collection of parts put together & given a name. There is nothing called a car if not for all the thousands of pieces put together & fueled externally. Same example fits humans. Anybody claiming full knowledge is unscientific. There is no permanent self which remains unchanged. Self is a temporary phenomena. The slightest blood clot in the brain can turn an adult into a child. So where is the self that got high education, did great jobs, made millions, brought up 3 kids, did great philanthropy , got old, meditated & achieved ? That self is gone forever & What dies is a child like person. This is the illusion of self.
Wrong. In the Nirvana Sutra, Buddha's disciples when being asked by Buddha what they had understood said among other things, "there is no self". Buddha admonishes them saying, "never say there is no self". Buddha understood very well that there is a real self.
One of the true religion is that buddhist is the true religion is because there is related to karma that people would be in the look out of heaven and hell. When people go to hell, they could recieve a rebirth because there is lots of suffering and lots of bad things happening throughout the world. So thats why Buddhist and the entire dharmic religion is the best religion and true religion in the world over christianity and abrahamic religion!
@1:00:00 someone says Schrödinger is German, and Wright repeats "German", but he is actually Austrian! #fakenews (absolutely unimportant but somehow funny in this context)
sincerely, lots would respect and study Buddhist. they are already the student of buddha, but many more like me would think their self restrain and current state of mind wouldn't justify themselves being Buddhist.
Read his book. Wright is a western social scientist and an academic. He is applying the skeptical inquiry of western social science to eastern philosophy and psychology to see if the claims made by Buddhism are validated by western psychology. His findings say yes. Wright's book is mainly written for the skeptic, not Buddhist adherents. A Buddhist monk isn't going to view his own practice in a scientifically critical way.
All this discuss about Buddhism or any "ism" is useless, unless you assimilate the tenets and, most importantly, do "saadhana" (i.e., practice), and have direct experience. Otherwise, all the books written by you will get degenerated into nothing more than a Ph.D material! You should realise that talking about Buddhism is not "enlightenment", which once you get, will manifest into "silence" of speech and "silence" of mind.
So, the solution is clearly a combination of rational reflection and a form of introspection, Buddhist or other, focusing on awareness. I think Pinker got it right.A rational cognitive system of weighing up the evidence based on probability and what we know already, not letting our biases overrule. That takes awareness in the cognitive area but can be underpinned by techniques of introspection. However, i don't need to meditate to be or become aware. Our rational brain can do that all by itself.I see meditation as a technique of introspection, one of many. We have the capability in our nature.. There are some who wish to plug a particular Buddhist meditation just like a christian sect wants to differentiate from the others. There is no 'best' or 'true' way..
it's not actually rebirth of same person .that's physical cycling of last thought have power of giving birth to a next self so the person who learn this thought generation clearly he is said to be enlightened that means no thought for next life.he ends the process where it generated .where self become same physical ingredients that we know and no more.that's the story of origination also

Analogy. Liberation is like becoming a president. If you can't become president but at least you will become a leader of few. The side effect of compassion (which is a core least step of buddhist or attaining liberation ) is self. The person who has immense compassion will never lie ,never bully, never fool others in that way he or she will gain trust and lots of friends which eventually benefits the person.
The society even you would prefer a trust worthy friends and neighbourhood than liar isn't it? So ?. Moral ethics is the 1st step in buddhism. 2nd and 3rd step is for higher mental capabilities or sanga for liberation or nirvana. Most buddhist just practice moral ethics not for nirvana or liberation which is harder In this current chaotic rigmarole society where being good is quite hard in many communities.

One of the things that make Buddhism so healthy is that there is no requirement for us to become a Buddhist, rather there is an invitation to take the best we can from it to become a better what you already are.
Yes many people have benefited much by exercising meditation practices.
Buddhism isn't about 'becoming' or 'better' in any way. Those are ego-fixations. The only thing Buddhist practice invites is awareness - nothing more, nothing less.
@Donald Robertson Eastern religions always try to destroy desires
I don't understand how one can stop suffering by annihilating all desires
@Donald Robertson We should always accept the reality and try to fix the problem
But I am talking about the buddhist view of suffering
The second noble truth of buddhism says that all suffering is caused by desire or craving and the third noble truth says that Suffering can be eliminated by annihilating all desires
I don't understand how one can stop suffering by Annihilating all desires
We humans will always experience suffering
It is not an illusion
If a person breaks our bones then we will experience suffering no matter what
There is no escape of the pain and suffering
I don't think this method is practical
How can a person live without any desire ?

@@therationalagnostic2735 Hi friend, Buddhism is like a home that has 2-3 floors and many rooms so please study it . There are many books about Buddhism written by westerners .
The more I've grown the more I feel Buddhism is truer than any religion. It talks about the suffering of man more than divine intervention.

Buddhism is the real truth of the Universe. It's the Universal law.
I'm reminded of a Bruce Lee quote: "Again let me remind you Jeet Kune Do is just a name used, a boat to get one across, and once across it is to be discarded and not to be carried on one's back."
you are right!
law of cause and effect
Be water, my friend
It’s not the daily increase but daily decrease.
I was wondering how my friends Buddhists are doing. And... I see they are doing well. Keep up the good work. Thanks for updates,

@@fontofgod how about you have respect to one another
@@fontofgod Wow I think you need to go back to pre school and learn how to talk to people and respect other people's beliefs/Religions.
It has a power to force one to behave the
way the craving desire ones to do.

(*Read more about "The Origin of Matter - Suddhāṭṭhaka" at Pure Dhamma website.)
According to my mathematical calculations the Universe can make two objects (Matter and Antimatter) using the 6 gaps of the 6 directions:
(+0-0)3 x (+0-0)3 = Matter x Antimatter
According to this mathematical formula (a+b)2=a2+2ab+b2 we can write (+0-0)2 as 02 - (+1-(-1)) x 0 x 0 + 02
(+0-0) x (+0-0) x (+0-0) x (+0-0) x (+0-0) x (+0-0) = (+1-(-1))3 x (+0.0-0.0)3
(+1-(-1))3 can make 8 dimensional forms of space with a nature of Matter and Antimatter which can cause to convert those 8 dimensional forms of space into 16 quantum dimensional forms of space like Quarks, forces and etc.
(+0.0-0.0)3 can make extra dimensions, Higgs boson and etc.
Possible or Probable Outputs of (+0.0-0.0)3
(+0.0-0.0)3 = (+0.0-0.0)x(+0.0-0.0)x(+0.0-0.0)
The Most Possible Output:
(+0.0-0.0)3
= (0.02 - (+1-(-1)) x 0.0 x 0.0 + 0.02)x(+0.0-0.0)
= ((+1-(-1)) x 0.000 - (+1-(-1)) x 0.000)x(+0.0-0.0)
= ((+1-(-1)) x (0.000 - 0.000))x(+0.0-0.0)
(+0.0-0.0)3 = ((+1-(-1)) x (0.000 - 0.000)) x (+0.0-0.0)
I write it like this for identification:
(+0.0-0.0)3 = (+(1)-(-(1))) x (0.000 - 0.000) x (+0.0-0.0)
Now we can combine the results of (+0.0-0.0)3 with the results of (+1-(-1))3 to see the most possible total result:
(+1-(-1))3 x (+0.0-0.0)3 =
(+ (+1)3 - ((+1)3 x (-1) - ((-1)2 x (+1)2)) + (-1)2 x (+1)
- (+ (+1)2 x (-1) - ((+1)2 x (-1)2 - ((-1)3 x (+1))) + (-1)3))
x (+(1)-(-(1))) x (0.000 - 0.000) x (+0.0-0.0)
(+1-(-1))3 x (+0.0-0.0)3 =
(+ (+(1))(+1)3 - ((+(1))(+1)3 x (-1) - ((+(1))(-1)2 x (+1)2)) + (+(1))(-1)2 x (+1)
- (+ (+(1))(+1)2 x (-1) - (+(1))((+1)2 x (-1)2 - (+(1))((-1)3 x (+1))) + (+(1))(-1)3)
- (+ (-(1))(+1)3 - ((-(1))(+1)3 x (-1) - ((-(1))(-1)2 x (+1)2)) + (-(1))(-1)2 x (+1)
- (+ (-(1))(+1)2 x (-1) - (-(1))((+1)2 x (-1)2 - (-(1))((-1)3 x (+1))) + (-(1))(-1)3)))
x (0.000 - 0.000) x (+0.0-0.0)
It gives 16 results and this unbalanced result (Higgs boson): (0.000 - 0.000) x (+0.0-0.0)
Now I can show all the most possible results (the 16 dimensional forms in atoms called quarks, forces and etc) like this:

This should be the Higgs boson in Standard Model (in particle physics):
17: (0.000 - 0.000) x (+0.0-0.0)
Each electron has an electrical charge of -1. Quarks make up protons and neutrons, which, in turn, make up an atom's nucleus. Each proton and each neutron contains three quarks.
The Higgs boson field came from this: (+0.0-0.0)3
And this (+0.0-0.0)3 is combined to this: (+1-(-1))3
So always there is an interaction between the final resultS of this: (+1-(-1))3 x (+0.0-0.0)3 with this (0.000 - 0.000) x (+0.0-0.0) which can make a mathematical connection between those things. (Eg: Tau : Muon : Electron = 2000 : 100 : 0.5 = 4000 : 200 : 1)
The reason to the birth of Atoms is the reason to The Origin of Matter and Antimatter. And it is the first part of 'The Theory Of Everything'.

I'm making another mathematical formula from this (+0-0)6 = (+1-(-1))3 x (+0.0-0.0)3 mathematical formula.
What does this all mean?

Alan Watts nailed the whole buddhism and eastern religion thing way back in the 60s and he had much deeper understanding, Buddhism cannot be explained simply, to understand Buddhism, it needs to be pondered. Notice that teachers of Buddhism almost always never answer your questions with an straight answer but with another question or something seemingly irrelevant.
Alan is sure to miss upcoming scientific breakthroughs, but yes you're right he was a good man with big heart and talent of making things clear.
But Robert Wright has the scientific chops to validate the claims made in Buddhist philosophy. Alan Watts, while a great popularizer of Buddhism in the west, did not.
Ken Hew
Rubbish, Alan Watts may have comprehended the Mahayana Buddhism to some extent, but he didn't understand Theravada.
Alan Watts was basically a joke. Buddhist teachers with genuine realization have dismissed him as a loon.

you cannot generalize that "in Asia is quite the opposite; people don't meditate and believe in God."..... you should understand that there's quite a wide range of spectrum of what consider 'Buddhism', very much depends on school of Buddhism are we focusing on.
not looking to confront anybody, I just thought that I should throw some of little bit of knowledge that I happen to know, since someone that seeking to gain more knowledge on Buddhism as spiritual way might find this information useful and prevent them from getting the wrong idea on what Buddhism really is.
may all of you be happy
Many of the points discussed in the talk (such as likes and dislikes that influence one to re-tweet something, etc.) happen due to the attachments we have towards the 'five aggregates.' The following article clearly describes how this happens:

Zen Buddhism is the time to not pray for good, not to think evil, to understand the present well, not to hold on to consciousness. Let go of all states of mind inside, external object, that is Zen Buddhism, also called the truth.
Throughout each day, try to be aware of what and how you are thinking/feeling. Be aware of what you say and why, what you do and why .As for passing on genes, I met my daughter's mother at a Buddhist meeting.

Selflessness teaching is very easy to misunderstand. It is teaching to who understand dependent arising deeply. Means understand
pra-ti -ta -Sa -mu- dha- pada. Three way of depending. Cause and condition,. Phenomena and it's properties, mentally construction.
If you understand selflessness as you don't exist, it is completely worng or misconception.
Selflessness or emptyness mean

Why is it best not to mix the two?
Wright seems to have done his homework. Questions were good and overall atmosphere futuristic and friendly.
@@ericsierra-franco7802
It is the ‘psyche’ that carries out scientific studies of the ‘psyche.’ In other words, the inquirer is
interlocked with the item under inquiry - this is why it is best to study the two separately.

Buddhist Dharma is very practical.
Learn now and immediately one can apply the teachings.
Now you learn, immediately one can apply it.

If the result is not now , how can you leave sufferings in the future?
If we cannot enjoy it now, who would believe in the future?

guys i can feel the truth when i meditate he may be right to you but he is less right to me
Feelings. That thing we don't really pay attention to in the West.
Where in Buddhism you have any of your naturalistic philosophy?
The mind is like a mirror.....it gathers dust while it reflects.

The sole aim of Buddhism is alleviation of human suffering.

an instance of a wrong or misinterpreted perception of a sensory experience.
we have a wrong perception of ourselves, which means we can have a right perception of who we are and our true Self which is one in all.

It depends.
