Good video, I have had this remote for several years but gave up on programming it, then forgot I had it. I found it the other day so went back to My Harmony site and they had lost all my log in info. I am on a different computer and moved from Win 7 to Win 10 now so I just downloaded all the software again. Your video was a big help, I wish I would have looked when I first got the remote for help videos so thanks a lot. Thanks again for the video, it was a big help. I see you do lots of remotes. :-)
Yep, that's the biggest thing I don't like about these remotes. You having to pull the units out of their little cubby holes to find the model number. It's a pain the neck! So when you get the new (used) 650, if you still have the program on your computer and it's still got the info for the current 650, I would try and see if you can just re-write what's on the one that comes (with your old info).. if not, you should be able to reset the new (used) one back to factory settings and see if you can program it from there.. If all that doesn't work, then you'll have to delete the 650 from the computer program and start from scratch..
can you use this remote as some type of laptop controller? i have an old remote can i use it to hit the play button, adjust sound, or other settings? thanks!
It depends... Does your laptop accept commands from an IR remote? You say you have an old remote? Is it one of the Logitech remotes? Is there a section for computer codes under the devices list? If your laptop came with a remote when it was new and you still have it as a last resort you might be able to use the original remote to teach your current remote the commands as long as it's teachable..
I have entered 23 channels which are on display on my remote under different channels. I did sync the channels. I am unable to change channels using my remote. Do you have any suggestions?
Hmmm. Is your Tv in the "on air" mode or "over air".. so that the channels are available to change... Can you change channels with the normal channel up and down button?
If you had you're original remote, you can teach one of the buttons to do that. IF you don't have it, you're kind of stuck with the ones they give you.
Just stumbled upon this as my Harmony 650 needs to be reprogrammed. What is the Logitech website to go to? I had this programmed at set up with a new TV in 2016 by Geek Squad worker. There was no website or software. He programmed it for me. Do I need to go to the website to reprogram?
support.myharmony.com/en-us/download Yes, you'll need to go to the Logitech website to get the software. Unfortunately the software is somewhat limited on Mac computers.
I really think I should ask this before I buy a used Harmony remote that was advertised. Is the software setup tied to a single user purchase? My reference comes from game manufacturers relatively recent business model, so it’s not a dumb question.
No it's not a dumb question. The ones that I've bought for these videos were all new. But I don't believe this to be the case. I don't know this for 100%, but I'm 99% sure that you can take a remote that has been programmed from someone else with a different computer and just reprogram it to suit your situation.

I now want to disable that feature but can't find instructions anywhere on how to do this (user manual, harmony "help" support, etc). I've got serveral harmony remotes, but the two I'm having problems with are the 650 and 665. I don't even remember if that feature had a specific name, but every feature name alternative I can think of turns-up zero meaningful results in user manual and online searches. Also, I thought this was a local off-line setting in the remote, but is it something one can do only when logged-in and connected to harmony to program the remote? If so, how is that feature identified in the online system?
I don't remember if that feature had a way to disable it or not. I don't have the software loaded on my computer at the moment, If I did, I would check the software to see it it's mentioned or not..
Does the Software for the 650 allow you to download upload the existing program from the remote to the computer? Or do you have to reprogram if you don't have original program, say if you bought a new TV that's a different make and model? Thank you in advance for your reply
If I understand correctly, you're asking if I can upload the program stored onto the remote onto the computer? I don't believe so, You have to have the original program on the computer and the program for the remote will be saved. Don't quote me on this, but I think that Logitech will store the program on their servers under your account. But I'm not sure if that's true or not... I'd have to experiment around with it to see. If you get a different TV, you can go in and wipe the existing program stored on the remote and replace it with the new information for your current setup.
My Yamaha RX-V659 shows as not compatible. A salesperson at the Source told me there are codes which can be inputted as a workaround. Do you know about this?
No, I'm not sure if there's no code listed. If you have the factory remote, I'm pretty sure this is a learning remote, so maybe you can teach it the codes?
HI Martin, Here's what logitech has to say "Harmony 600/650/665/700 have no need to factory reset and therefore do not have the ability to do so." So this is unfortunate... I think if you just reprogram it with the software, it'll wipe out any existing information and replace it with new.... I don't know if that helps or not, but that's what I've figured out... Thanks...
