Great videos man! I have a harmony one and I’m trying to sync it to my xfinity cable box. When I try to change the channel there is a lot of lagging or sometimes it does not work. Would it work better if I add the hub to the remote and have the signal come from it?
Hi, Nice review. clear and concise. I have a Harmony Elite and Denon x3600h as a receiver. On the populated device buttons , is there a visual clue to tell you the DynEQ/VolOn/Off is on or off (other than listening)? Same with DynEQOn/Off.

I do have a question in regards to something I have not been able to figure out within the Harmony app. How do I set up a power off activity that will not only power off all of the AV equipment but also my Hue lights as well? Do I have to have the hue lights as part of the startup for each activity in order to have them turn off when I say "Turn off the TV"?
Question: Can I control the hub from my smartphone, away from the house? I live out of state and need to control the TV for my mom (who has Alzheimer's). Any suggestions to make that easy? Or do you prefer Alexa? I can speak to the Alexa via cell phone speaker but the hub seems better. Thanks for your help
This was great. Using an Echo Dot - Once favorite stations are set up, do you just say "Alexa, turn on espn"? Also, do you have a video that shows which skills to enable in Alexa to access streaming services on a Smart TV? TV is a Samsung smart TV and client needs to be able to say "Alexa, play Netflix" and have it launch on the tv. Also, if Netflix launches, can Alexa then control this by voice? Thanks!
I started following ur channel a little bit ago already so knowledgeable n broken down in a simple understanding sence on how to do without being over whelming in any sence that said, from what ive watched it seems u might have the knowledge to help. So heres the scenario. I got a 4k uhd firestick Vizio tv 4k hdr. Etc. n vizio sound bar 5.1. but everytime i go to play play music thru my fire stick for the surround sound audio speakers it switches the input to the sound bar when I launch a song with say a echo dot as n example n it wants to play but it switches input causing me to manually switch the input back to the the fire stick input where it is playing. My sound bar is in my arc port also. Be very great ful if u could looking at hubs also of they help
Quick question. I have my favorite 50 channels set up but when I tap any one of the station icons it does nothing. Also sometimes I have to tap the watch tv on the remote several times before it works? Any suggestions? Thanks.
Nice video, thanks. Beats reading the directions. But like others my echo isn’t able to discover the hub. I have no problems with Hue lights and other devices. This one no luck. I’m reading it’s a problem. I’m taking it back unless someone has a fix.

Setup prompts slightly diff on my iOS app, but after getting it dialed in & settings tweaked to work well for my devices, I then synced, opened Alexa app, enabled the skill & boom! All works well! Loving this... thanks again for all your videos. So far I’m controlling TV, AC (Honeywell WiFi), & Hue lights (super expensive, but sweet!), all without any hubs! (Beside hue bridge ofcourse). Next I’m going to add front door lock... hopefully HomeKit would suffice, going to see how far I can go without spending money on a physical hub. I have an upcoming home improv project looming; getting 13 LED recessed fixtures(downlights) installed in my great room (kitchen/dining space/living room). Will need smart switches to control them. Any switches that run on HomeKit or Alexa directly? (Again, trying to avoid buying a hub).
Great informative video one big question ok u need wifi and the smartphone to setup the harmony remote initially the remote now function as a normal remote if u lose wifi or the phone will the remote still function with the made setting or do u have to always have to have wifi

I have a question to clarify; I have my home theatre system (incl amp, cable box, Apple TV etc.) already nicely tucked away behind the walls. I am running an IR extender to control all the devices but have to use individual remotes to switch among the devices. Hence I am looking to get this Logitech elite remote to control everything with one remote. My question is as follows; 1) given all of my devices are already connected to an IR, can I not directly control the devices using my existing IR emitter with this remote instead of using the IR Blaster supplied with the remote. If this doable, do you think I can still use the other home connect services (philips hue, nest etc.) without the IR Blaster supplied with the remote? 2) alternate option could be that I add my Logitech hub to my existing IR emitter (by attaching the IR eye to the LED screen of the hub). Do you think that is the better option than the first one? What I don’t want is that I spend $250 only to find out that this will not support my existing IR setup. Unfortunately I cannot change my existing setup for obvious reasons. Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Does the Harmony App allow you to lock down configuration changes? It would be nice to password protect the configuration and stop kids from making modifications.
Hi Chris. I set up the Harmony Hub at my mom's nursing home via my cell and it works at her room. But I can't able to reset her activity when I am at work or from different network. Is there a something in the setting I should look out for? (The problem with her tv is sometimes it's default back to Ant instead of HDM1 or the cable box is off.) My goal is to be able to reset it for her remotely instead of physically going to the nursing home. Any suggestions I can do this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Laura

Hi Chris, Interested to know if you can set the harmony hub to copy IR from another source/remote like you used to with old universal remotes. I'm wanting to connect to a heat pump/ac unit but am unsure that it is a well known brand/model and if it will work with it or not.
I already have a Harmony 650 and all my configurations for automation. Do I need to set up the hub individually, or can I just copy everything from my 650 ?
No Edit home controls and edit entertainment devices does not appear in my start sequence screen all I get at the bottom of the screen is add a step and add a delay green boxes. Cant edit home controls and entertainment devices. Please can someone help me solve this problem
Hi Majestechs - what a great, comprehensive and professional video. Can you tell me if there is an easy way to add additional IR outputs to the Hub as I have each element of my AV system in separate compartments of a closed cabinet so front mounting the blaster won't work. I need individual feeds to four different devices in the cabinet.
Although I haven't tried it myself, I understand that some people have used a cable splitter to get more than 2 IR blasters connected to it. I'm actually using both IR blaster ports on mine since the hub won't work through my smoked glass cabinet. Hope this helps.
Majestechs would I just use a 2 into 1 3.5mm jack plug splitter? Is it a mono plug end? Do I need any particular type of IR extender? Or will any generic off Amazon work?
The only problem with this hub that seems to plague me is the activities. I added my tv and my fios dvr as one activity and my home theater audio system as another activity. The problem is when I turn my TV on it turns on the stereo. When I turn the TV off or sometimes turning off the stereo the TV will turn off even though these activities are separate. Others on the web have this same issue. I'm a computer guy by profession so I'm pretty familiar with much of this stuff. Now I can control all of this separately if I were simply using the app on my phone but the issue I stated above is when I use the harmony companion remote.
Hi, I live in the U.K. and have two Harmony Hubs. There are now two Alexa skills in the U.K. store, one is called just Harmony (Blue in colour) and the other is called Harmony Secondary Hub (Red in colour) ... I used the Blue skill to set up my first hub and all is working well... just have to ask Alexa to turn on the TV etc and don’t have to 'Ask Harmony' anymore for this new skill. The second hub was setup using the red Harmony Secondary Hub skill but with this one you have to still 'Ask Harmony' to turn on the TV or to adjust the volume etc. Clearly the Blue Harmony Skill only supports one hub and it looks like Logitech have now adapted the red skill to control a second hub. My question is.... What is the best way to add a third hub to my setup ... should I use a smart things hub or should I use Yonomi ?? Any advice is appreciated. Ken
Can you confirm that hub is broken. It was fine untill yesterday. remote lost communication with hub. I tried to reinstall hub/remote. It was tricky and I had to reset hub to factory settings and then instal and recovery settings. I could do it but after a while mobile app couldn't connect hub. It was away but remote was working. The next step was to set up a new account and started from scratch. Now I can't connect hub to WiFi. WiFi is working fine ans seup stopped at the point where I discover wifi network, choose it, type wifi password. the app or desktop program try to connect hub but unsussessfully. What else I can do?
Great vid keep it up! So.. After 2 days searching www I'm even more confused on what to buy. My setup: 2x Nvidia Shield tv, 2x Samsung TV, phone with IFTTT, Harmony Companion. Everything works on voice control on phone. I now want to automate some lights(incl dimming) etc. But where to start. Samsung smartthings, other "dongle", direct Wi-Fi, openhab, zigbee. I don't like to pay $70,00 for one light bulb. Rather have a wall plug or cable dimmer. Any idea where to start?

Still having issues with harmony changing channels on Xfinity DVR box. I can do everything on my phone with harmony app but voice commands not recognizing to turn channels on box. When it does recognize it, it says it changes the channel but really doesn't? Been working on this for days. I'm sure I'm doing something stupid but what? Nothing on videos (For anyone) showing hook up to comcast/xfinity.
Hello Chris, I just found you and subscribed after the first video. If i already have activities set up for a Harmony 1100 with IR hub (everything except tv behind wood cabinet doors), can the new hub find those activities Or do I set up the new hub from scratch along with IR port assignments?
+cohibill you would have to either setup the hub as new or import the devices and activities. The import function doesn't always work perfectly but its a big help and saves you a lot of time

Great video! I also have a Denon home theatre receiver, Samsung LCD TV and the Harmony Hub. How do I setup Harmony to switch the input from SAT/CBL to another HDMI input. For e.g I have a Chromecast USB connected to the HDMI input called, Chromecast. When I setup the activity, it actually turned off my Denon receiver and TV, then turned it back on and then switch to the Chromecast HDMI input.
I bought the Harmony smart control. it comes with the hub and a remote. Is there a way to get the remote to "act" like an actual remote for the individual devices? It made me create these activities and then the remote acts as one thing for all devices. The problem is that I want the remote to be able to control the volume on my TV and surround sound. I would like complete control over each device. Thanks in advance.
Nile River Should be able to, there is an option to long press on buttons. Say you long press for surround volume and regular press for TV volume. Every button has the option to long press and regular press exept the activity buttons and the off button of course.
There is a major issue with Elite for me. You cannot switch devices off in an activity? Why would I want that? Because my TV comes on as well as my projector when I want to watch satellite TV. Also, it's very laborious to programme what you might call macros. I..e. navigating through menus on my receiver to change settings
If you have a home automation device such as Samsung Smartthings you can have it do this. Each activity will show up as a switch within Smartthings so all of them can be "turned off" at will
Im having problems connecting my hub to my shield. I tried using desktop software and phone app and i can add my shield, but none of the buttons on my harmony elite remote work with my nvidia shield. Do u have any idea on what it is?
Colt Mallett This is basically a universal remote that works with Infrared. You would need a second hub but I don't think the Google home can control more than one hub at a time unless you use a work around with ifttt.
I bought the Harmony Companion(hub and remote). I set all the favourites in the application. Now I need to have one button on the remote to cycle through all the favourites so I am not having to pass through every channel just to see my favourites. This favourites button has been on every remote I have ever had, on any cable box remote. (Even the $20 universal remote from Walmart has such a button.) I have been pulling my hair out and fast reaching the conclusion that this very expensive remote, can not do this. My spouse will have nothing to do with this remote if she can not just flip through our favourite channels. Please tell me I am wrong and explain how this can be done on the companion remote before I have to admit to her, I was screwed with this thing, and go back to Walmart for a cheapo remote that just works. you need to add the harmony hub skill to alexa you can control your activity,. you need to do the same thing with smartthings however is is under logitech if you cant initially find it. then you can either say your command or say "alexa tell harmony to put the volume down by 5" etc.
Chris great video. However I'm having a issue. Recently attached a roku premier plus to my yamaha RX A770 my harmony ultimate one without the hub was programmed to it. Now when I select activity to watch tv within 30 seconds of powering on the roku takes over and switched inputs by itself. The harmony is not programmed to do that. It's only when roku is plugged in to the receiver
I recently returned mine. I thought that I'd be able to voice control the devices themselves outside of turning it on and switching inputs. For example I can't have Harmony play an episode on Hulu from my Xbox One. (Unless I can and I missed something haha.)
Majestechs I attempted a custom activity. It just used the directional buttons to navigate to where the app is and it pressed "ok". Making that work was a hit or miss because it seemed like some of the directional inputs didn't register and it would end up opening something random. If it did actually work, I'd still want it to play a certain episode. It would be great to say, "Alexa, play the latest episode of Master Chef." And it have everything turn on and it start playing.
Wait.... How did you get passed the setup new hub??? I press the reset button on the hub and press setup new hub, and all I get is instructions for things I've already done. Over and over on an endless loop.
One afternoon i was busy with this thing and finally i did the right thing: Into the garbage with it. The remote kept showing the splash screen the whole afternoon: myharmony.com with the arrow in it.
The Harmony software is garbage. It took me 3 hours and a combination of the iOS app, Android app, and the Windows MyHarmony program to minimally set up my hub. My iOS app today said "Connecting to Harmony servers. Please wait". It never connects. I uninstalled the app and reinstalled, but I can't simply log into my account with my email/password. The app requires me to add a hub first rather than log into my account and sync with the server. The Windows program doesn't allow you to actually control the hub, only add devices and such. I need to control a device over internet, but can't because the software is garbage. It shouldn't take iOS, Android, and a Windows computer to get the product to minimally function. Look at the app rating. 2.1 stars right now. Almost everyone saying the app is unusable. Fine video by the way. I just don't want people watching it and thinking they will be able to breeze through getting anything to work.
had my Harmony hub about a week. not very happy with it. Alexa controls are very iffy and very aggravating. only turns my TV off and on about 60% of the time.
like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....
You forgot to mention the bits where the device/software crashes continuously when trying to enter your login details? Also anything about how the software deletes your commands and generally a piece of shit?
If only this actually worked well with Alexa. It never works right. Sometimes I have to say "Alexa, Turn on the TV" 5 times before it gets everything set up correctly. Frustrating!
Loonytik Have you tried setting up a delay before each action? I've encountered issues as well. Just have to test and try till you get it perfectly. I setup a music playlist activity to start at 6 to wake me up. It loads up just fine but i had to add a delay before almost every step.

The only problem with this hub that seems to plague me is the activities. I added my tv and my fios dvr as one activity and my home theater audio system as another activity. The problem is when I turn my TV on it turns on the stereo. When I turn the TV off or sometimes turning off the stereo the TV will turn off even though these activities are separate. Others on the web have this same issue. I'm a computer guy by profession so I'm pretty familiar with much of this stuff.
Now I can control all of this separately if I were simply using the app on my phone but the issue I stated above is when I use the harmony companion remote.

I live in the U.K. and have two Harmony Hubs. There are now two Alexa skills in the U.K. store, one is called just Harmony (Blue in colour) and the other is called Harmony Secondary Hub (Red in colour) ... I used the Blue skill to set up my first hub and all is working well... just have to ask Alexa to turn on the TV etc and don’t have to 'Ask Harmony' anymore for this new skill.
The second hub was setup using the red Harmony Secondary Hub skill but with this one you have to still 'Ask Harmony' to turn on the TV or to adjust the volume etc.
Clearly the Blue Harmony Skill only supports one hub and it looks like Logitech have now adapted the red skill to control a second hub. My question is....
What is the best way to add a third hub to my setup ... should I use a smart things hub or should I use Yonomi ??

Can you confirm that hub is broken. It was fine untill yesterday. remote lost communication with hub. I tried to reinstall hub/remote. It was tricky and I had to reset hub to factory settings and then instal and recovery settings. I could do it but after a while mobile app couldn't connect hub. It was away but remote was working. The next step was to set up a new account and started from scratch. Now I can't connect hub to WiFi. WiFi is working fine ans seup stopped at the point where I discover wifi network, choose it, type wifi password. the app or desktop program try to connect hub but unsussessfully. What else I can do?
Great vid keep it up! So.. After 2 days searching www I'm even more confused on what to buy. My setup: 2x Nvidia Shield tv, 2x Samsung TV, phone with IFTTT, Harmony Companion. Everything works on voice control on phone. I now want to automate some lights(incl dimming) etc. But where to start. Samsung smartthings, other "dongle", direct Wi-Fi, openhab, zigbee. I don't like to pay $70,00 for one light bulb. Rather have a wall plug or cable dimmer. Any idea where to start?

Still having issues with harmony changing channels on Xfinity DVR box. I can do everything on my phone with harmony app but voice commands not recognizing to turn channels on box. When it does recognize it, it says it changes the channel but really doesn't? Been working on this for days. I'm sure I'm doing something stupid but what? Nothing on videos (For anyone) showing hook up to comcast/xfinity.

+cohibill you would have to either setup the hub as new or import the devices and activities. The import function doesn't always work perfectly but its a big help and saves you a lot of time

Great video! I also have a Denon home theatre receiver, Samsung LCD TV and the Harmony Hub. How do I setup Harmony to switch the input from SAT/CBL to another HDMI input. For e.g I have a Chromecast USB connected to the HDMI input called, Chromecast. When I setup the activity, it actually turned off my Denon receiver and TV, then turned it back on and then switch to the Chromecast HDMI input.

I bought the Harmony smart control. it comes with the hub and a remote. Is there a way to get the remote to "act" like an actual remote for the individual devices? It made me create these activities and then the remote acts as one thing for all devices. The problem is that I want the remote to be able to control the volume on my TV and surround sound. I would like complete control over each device. Thanks in advance.
Nile River Should be able to, there is an option to long press on buttons. Say you long press for surround volume and regular press for TV volume. Every button has the option to long press and regular press exept the activity buttons and the off button of course.

Why would I want that?
Because my TV comes on as well as my projector when I want to watch satellite TV.
Also, it's very laborious to programme what you might call macros. I..e. navigating through menus on my receiver to change settings
you have to create multiple activities and change your power settings in each device so that one isnt triggered over another.

If you have a home automation device such as Samsung Smartthings you can have it do this. Each activity will show up as a switch within Smartthings so all of them can be "turned off" at will

Colt Mallett This is basically a universal remote that works with Infrared. You would need a second hub but I don't think the Google home can control more than one hub at a time unless you use a work around with ifttt.
Do you need a laptop for this or can you solely use a smartphone?

I bought the Harmony Companion(hub and remote). I set all the favourites in the application. Now I need to have one button on the remote to cycle through all the favourites so I am not having to pass through every channel just to see my favourites. This favourites button has been on every remote I have ever had, on any cable box remote. (Even the $20 universal remote from Walmart has such a button.) I have been pulling my hair out and fast reaching the conclusion that this very expensive remote, can not do this. My spouse will have nothing to do with this remote if she can not just flip through our favourite channels. Please tell me I am wrong and explain how this can be done on the companion remote before I have to admit to her, I was screwed with this thing, and go back to Walmart for a cheapo remote that just works. you need to add the harmony hub skill to alexa you can control your activity,. you need to do the same thing with smartthings however is is under logitech if you cant initially find it. then you can either say your command or say "alexa tell harmony to put the volume down by 5" etc.

Chris great video. However I'm having a issue. Recently attached a roku premier plus to my yamaha RX A770 my harmony ultimate one without the hub was programmed to it. Now when I select activity to watch tv within 30 seconds of powering on the roku takes over and switched inputs by itself. The harmony is not programmed to do that. It's only when roku is plugged in to the receiver

I recently returned mine. I thought that I'd be able to voice control the devices themselves outside of turning it on and switching inputs. For example I can't have Harmony play an episode on Hulu from my Xbox One. (Unless I can and I missed something haha.)

Majestechs I attempted a custom activity. It just used the directional buttons to navigate to where the app is and it pressed "ok". Making that work was a hit or miss because it seemed like some of the directional inputs didn't register and it would end up opening something random. If it did actually work, I'd still want it to play a certain episode. It would be great to say, "Alexa, play the latest episode of Master Chef." And it have everything turn on and it start playing.

Wait.... How did you get passed the setup new hub??? I press the reset button on the hub and press setup new hub, and all I get is instructions for things I've already done. Over and over on an endless loop.

right next to all my components, my tv is only four maybe five years old and my surround/dvd receiver is maybe 8 years old.
The Harmony software is garbage. It took me 3 hours and a combination of the iOS app, Android app, and the Windows MyHarmony program to minimally set up my hub. My iOS app today said "Connecting to Harmony servers. Please wait". It never connects. I uninstalled the app and reinstalled, but I can't simply log into my account with my email/password. The app requires me to add a hub first rather than log into my account and sync with the server. The Windows program doesn't allow you to actually control the hub, only add devices and such. I need to control a device over internet, but can't because the software is garbage. It shouldn't take iOS, Android, and a Windows computer to get the product to minimally function.
Look at the app rating. 2.1 stars right now. Almost everyone saying the app is unusable.
Fine video by the way. I just don't want people watching it and thinking they will be able to breeze through getting anything to work.
had my Harmony hub about a week. not very happy with it. Alexa controls are very iffy and very aggravating. only turns my TV off and on about 60% of the time.

like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....
You forgot to mention the bits where the device/software crashes continuously when trying to enter your login details? Also anything about how the software deletes your commands and generally a piece of shit?
If only this actually worked well with Alexa. It never works right. Sometimes I have to say "Alexa, Turn on the TV" 5 times before it gets everything set up correctly. Frustrating!
Loonytik Have you tried setting up a delay before each action? I've encountered issues as well. Just have to test and try till you get it perfectly. I setup a music playlist activity to start at 6 to wake me up. It loads up just fine but i had to add a delay before almost every step.
