    To channel Doug DeMuro, there are a couple more "Quirks and Features" on the 96 Regal. 1. There's a light in the lower left corner of the instrument cluster that reads "Low Trac" but it doesn't light up when you lose traction peeling out (car doesn't have traction control.) No, no, It lights up when you're braking on a slick surface and the ABS is activated! 2. If this car had the optional steering wheel controls, whenever you used said controls to raise or lower the volume of the radio, the volume knob on the radio would rotate in whatever direction you were commanding from the steering wheel. 3. The early 1st Gen W-Bodies could be optioned with a manual transmission (mainly Grand Prixes) so where the clutch master cylinder would mount there's a big plugged hole in the firewall near the steering column that can be easily used to pass wires through (for an amplifier for instance.)
    One more thing - You can swap out that cupholder in the center armrest for one from a 92-99 LeSabre. The LeSabre cupholder holds 2 beverages and folds away neatly into the Regal armrest...

      Haha, thanks man and thanks for your comments. I got a good chuckle from your comment about college and those 3800 engines. Yeah, that plastic coolant bypass is an issue but man that engine is super smooth and has pretty decent power too.

    Anybody looking for a good cruiser look at Buicks G and W platforms (late 90's early 2000's) that are owned by elderly people, it will most likely be the closest you can get to owning a new with spending a ton of money. I also wish the Buick would have put the 3800 series 2 in the Rendezvous, honestly it would have sold better with that than the 3.4 (3.5, 3.6) that they came with. I now understand why older folks love their Buicks.

    IDK why everybody says those are legendary engines. They are decent, BUT have a serious flaw. Upper plenum is plastic, melts around the egr pipe and dumps coolant into the oil. Lower intake manifold gaskets are plastic, degrade and dump coolant into the oil. Coolant bypass elbows are plastic, degrade and externally leak.
    Once you get coolant in the oil it softens the engine bearings and they rod knock. I put myself through college flipping 3800 series 2 cars, replacing engines.

    • @mph5896
      @mph5896 3 роки тому

      @Camaro 68 Absolutely. Replace the upper intake plenum, lower intake manifold gaskets, and replace the elbows. About a 4 hour repair (or less).

  • @gosportjamie
    @gosportjamie 3 роки тому

    Judging by the grandma parking marks down the passenger side then the passenger mirror assembly has probably been replaced at least once and maybe a few times. I've had vehicles that have had one owner for a long time with stuck electric, and even manual, mirrors. Usually a good dosing of a penetrating oil behind the mirror glass will free the mechanism up and get everything moving like it should be, but, often, if it doesn't the mirror units aren't too expensive if you need a replacement. They just gum up and stick from being in the same place all the time, which you don't get in vehicles that have multiple drivers who need to change the mirror position every-so-often...

    • @hullinger
      @hullinger  3 роки тому +1

      Great tip about the outside mirror and that totally makes sense. And you're right about those marks down the side of the car. When I filmed that shot I had made a joke that the bruise on the front bumper and those skid marks on the doors is probably where Mrs. Smith hit little Johnny on his bicycle and that's why she can't drive any longer. My wife heard that comment when I was doing the editing of the video and told me that was too far. So I cut out the audio about that.
